What he means is the holes in the actual pulley where the belt sits on is where you poke your socket through to loosen the pivot bolt. It may be a bit hard to move but at least you now know how to get it. As for the tensioner, use a spanner.

I agree with changing your earth. I've got 2 earths coming off my alternator. stock + larger gauge wire. My battery voltage went from 13.4 to 14..2 just by doing that and the car starts off the first click now. You just run a wire from the housing of the alternator to your chassis. Easy done.

Check out your temperature sensors on the plenum. There are 2 next to each other on the front, a few cm from where the top radiator hose connects. Make sure there is a good connection with the plug and even look at having them replaced.

Does anyone know what the rules are in terms of registration when it comes to replacing a broken odometer?
-
thats just what they ask for when you do the inspection. you can go to the inspection with whatever gear you want. but you will be sent a defective vehicle notice if it doesnt meet their requirements (all stock items fitted). but when you receive the defective vehicle notice you can go to the IM240 test and pass that with whatever gear you want fitted.

check that your air flow meter is plugged in. the blue smoke could be from when you handled it. if it doesnt go away after 20mins then as mentioned - rings, valves/seals or turbo seals.
-
they dont check for those things mate, you can easily hide it. they dont take your exhaust apart to check. the pics i sent you in the PM explain what to do. just dont tell them what you did. you also need a STANDARD cat. it can not be aftermarket. the exhaust can be any brand you like as long as it passes the noise test.
-
i might be in depending on if i can get my car on a full tank of e85 in time.
-
dont bother with the extra muffler. ive got a way to get it to pass. my exhaust went from 96db (completely stock exhaust) to 82db with my little 'mod'. PM me and i'll guide you through it or even give you my one. also make sure you have a standard cat and DONT go to the guy in granville. ive heard lots of crappy stories about what he thinks a stock cat is. the guy in campbelltown actually knows what hes doing and isnt after your $.
-
does it say exhaust noise and emissions control systems? or just noise? DECCW always want to see that your standard emissions control systems are in place (exhaust, intake, bov, intercooler, charcoal canister). do you have to take it to a certain place that they have listed? any chance of showing the form they sent you? i recently had to go through the same thing.

How clean was it? Did you clean it to a shine? I remember when I used my dremil drill on it I got around a tea spoon full of crap come out.
-
For a quick fix I'd recommend taking your coil out, take the rubber boot and the little spring off and clean the inside of where the spring sits with some steel wool till it is shiney again. Put it back together and see how you go. Costs $0 and it fixed my coils.

i test drove an s15 spec r, aussie delivered. this thing sucked arse. it had a blown turbo and was rough as guts. drove like a pig. it had 110psi in all cylinders. i rate it 3/10. im going to test drive a jap spec and see how i go.
-
ive just sold my houses so to not go over board ive set my limit to 20k just so i dont have to borrow as much on my next property purchase. if i spend 10k more on a car then thats 10k ill have less for a deposit, 10k less in equity for a construction loan etc etc... i'd stretch it to 25 if it was a car that i saw to be an absolute dream. other than that its 20. for example, if i saw an evo7 pushing 250kw, built motor, ecu etc etc etc... i will spend more - it just needs to be CLEAN.
-
at this stage im looking at a jap turbo only because they are the most fun, cheapest to modify and there are lots out there if i ever need parts. the 350z is something i would buy if i get frustrated after looking for a clean jap turbo car. i wouldnt flash tune a car anyway - i tinker with my cars a lot so a tune-able ECU is something i will need as a minimum. the s15 is on top of the list. im looking at one with an rb25 gearbox.... tune in next time to see what happens.

ive decided to throw in an r33 gtr in the mix - but it has to be super clean and have low k's for me to consider it. im going to have a look at some 6.5's soon but theyre not the best looking cars, it needs to look good/modern because i tend to keep my cars for YEARS. ive got a pretty big weekend then ill get into the search. ill keep you guys posted as i go.
-
Once I get my motor rebuilt properly I'll throw it into a Silvia or r32 for fun. My budget can be stretched for something that is worth it. The Evo 6.5 is looking good but as mentioned they're a bit on the ugly side. I'll do some test driving and see how I go. I'll rate them 1-10. I'll make 5 being the same as my skyline and I'll add points if they're over or under. That's probably the best way to do it.
-
yeah an r32 gtr crossed my mined but as someone stated - theyre money pits. im not a big fan of a re-sprayed car and big wings (mine was resprayed and turned me off, and my car had a shaved wing!) thats going in the complete opposite direction for what i want mate. i want something light and easy to mod. yeah im going to look at a few tommi macks over the next few days (EVO 6.5 - apparently they got on the top 10 jap cars of all time). EVO 7 or 8 will be the next in line if i dont like the 6.5. i've got an R6 already - selling that and getting a gsxr1000.
-
so i've sold my car and now im looking for something around the $20,000 mark. so far my options are: - s15 with some mods - EVO 6.5 (tommi mak) - EVO 7 - EVO 8 - Supra 2JZ what else is there? i want a fast car that has a lot of potential that i could also have fun in on the track as well as do some 1/4 mile runs in. does anyone else have any insight on any of these cars? im leaning towards the EVO but im also thinking about getting something RWD to have some fun in. i've been fighting with myself for a while now trying to decide which one to get. i know there arent any skylines in that list, simply because the only one in my price range is the r34gtt and i dont want that, and the r33 GTR looks exactly like my car. are there any other cars that i would like that arent in my list? cheers, joe
