  1. i got stopped and defected a few weeks ago mate. worst thing is i was expecting it in the mail! thats right, i did a bit of calling around and one of the workshops said that if you go to the IM240 test first with an intercooler and passed, he can take a copy and send that off to the DECC and that should be the end of it. the key word there is should.. its not guaranteed. im going to give that one a go.
  2. im in sydney, western suburbs. not parting anything other than the parts currently listed guys.
  3. its time to part out my car - it has a fair amount of tasteful mods. i need the engine, turbo and ECU to go before anything else. they are all still in the car so inspections and test drives can be organised. engine: 70,000km series 2 rb25det with greddy style plenum (no turbo). I cant believe how tight this motor is, its in the absolute best condition ive ever seen one in. Price: $1800 complete or $1500 without CAS, starter, alternator, power steering etc. ill throw in the matching cooler kit for $300 turbo: GCG built this with a GT core, so its dual ball bearing rated at 450hp (custom built) this is the most powerful hi-flow you can get! comes with custom lines. Price: $1700 vipec ecu: comes with the boost controller as well as an extra auxiliary cable to connect additional sensors (like wideband, knock sensor etc) Price: $1700 I've got a long list of parts but these 3 have to go before i start selling off the other bits and pieces. PM me or get me on 0400 099 297. Cheers, Joe
  4. screw it. i think ill start parting out my car.
  5. My issue is I've got a front facing plenum. Does anyone have a solution to getting past this? Would engineering do anything?
  6. so i got the letter in the mail and now im starting to wonder if its worth my time to go through the process or just strip out my car. ive been reading some conflicting information on it and so far ive got the following questions.. if anyone could help it would be great 1. which cat? i spoke to one of the workshops and they said any standard cat. it doesnt need to be nissan but it just cant be anything hi-flowed. 2. ive got a front mount. ive also read that as long as your emissions comply then they wont send you to the EPA because of a front mount. if i get rejected because of my front mount i think ill just strip it. ive got a front facing plenum and it will be just too much of a hassle to get it back to the side mount. 3. do i need to replace the whole exhaust? or can i just make my exhaust quieter by adding a muffler? i tested my current exhaust and it sits at 89-90db @ 4800rpm. i did it with an iphone app so i doubt its right, but its supposed to be accurate to 2db. either way i'll be making it quieter, i just want to know if thats okay or if it NEEDS to be standard. 4. if i get an engineer certificate for the front mount, plenum and fixed exhaust, does anyone know if it will make a difference? 5. whats a good AFR to send the car in with? and timing?
  7. do a standard rebuild. you never know what you're buying when you get a 2nd hand motor. it should cost you around the 4k mark to do a standard rebuild at a workshop. at the same time you can put in the required restrictors for the oil supply to the head. make sure the following things are done at least: - rods, pistons and crank are balanced (approx 160-180) - head serviced (~500) and machined (~60) - metal head gasket (~400-500) - oil feed restrictors to the head ($30 + fitting.. they just press in so it shouldnt be a drama) - tensioner and idler studs replaced. (cheap) - water pump (~80) - front (crank) and rear main seals replaced. (cheap) - as you've got a 93 r32 GTR (as in your profile thingo) you will have a R33 crank so you wont need to get the crank collar done, but its always worth checking just in case the motor has been replaced by an older one at some stage. if you do need to get it done it will be around $300 supplied and fitted. Above all, get opinions on the workshop you decide to take it to. i wish i did.
  8. hey mate, ive got some off a spare motor. pm me if you're interested.
  9. splice off the one feeding your cd player.
  10. metal doesnt stay the same shape once heated champion - front bar support doesnt look touched either. sorry to hear about this bud, thats definitely a shit go.
  11. thats pretty much it. even listened to a conversation between a mechanic and someone knowledgeable about mechanics? you can always tell which is which.
  12. how much money do you have to spend on it? that will be the deciding factor. the possibilities are almost endless with the GTR. the EVO is a great car but you are limited by the displacement of their motors. i dont think much else could fit into it. the GTR on the other hand has had a lot of R&D..... rb30, turbo setups, handling, .. the list goes on and on. and you've always got the option to go RWD when you feel like it. im currently tossing up between the evo 9/10 and the r34 GTR. it took me around 10 seconds to decide on the GTR for the reasons above.
  13. dont go and rip it all out at once. do the easy jobs first (like dump and turbo first) then if it seems as though the gaskets are fine there, then do the exhaust manifold gasket. if you loosen the exhaust from the mounts underneath the car (you only really need to loosen the solid one near the front pipe), you can usually move the turbo away from the manifold enough to get the gasket in and out without removing the oil and water lines. just be careful of how much leverage you use.
  14. ^^ much better suggestion, although much more expensive.
  15. as long as the inlet is the same size of the outlet, the pressure wont change. with bigger fittings all you're changing is the flow. keep in mind you are cooling your oil - so your oil pressure will definitely increase. fab up a plate to cover your oil cooler core so it isnt cooling your oil when its not needed.
  16. most likely the manifold to turbo gasket.
  17. all of my knowledge is based from online reading (and being wrong in some discussions) and doing it myself (and getting it wrong), after a while you get things right and your confidence builds from there and things start to make sense on their own, almost like a mechanical logic. 3 engine rebuilds later, countless turbo swaps, tuning, wiring, replacing parts etc etc.. it all comes together in the end. you pay for your mistakes, but those mistakes pay for your experience and IMO experience is the best way to learn.
  18. its surprising how smooth skylines feel with just a nice, quiet exhaust. i was clearing some defects and had to run the standard exhaust. it was so damn smooth and quiet - i just wished there was an aftermarket exhaust that felt like that. i've been through 4 exhaust systems since, in search of the perfect one!
  19. ok i understand your point about "fraud" (as it is a contract it is actually misrepresentation). but consideration is still needed, and $1 for a car isnt sufficient consideration. most courts will rule that no contract existed unless SUFFICIENT consideration is offered. and my opinion is based on case study.
  20. unless the item that was being bought wasnt what they thought they were buying, i.e. a dud car (which is what we're talking about here). im not saying it IS a dud car, but if it were then it all changes. say he bought the car for $10,000. normally its worth $5,000. but the car starts falling apart gradually after the sale is completed. the motor shows sign of ware, rust spots start showing up through the paint, glue starts melting off interior parts.. do you think the consideration clause would still stand? logic IS what the courts do. its what people dont do.
  21. i dont think it would be "considerable" for someone to pay $10,000 for a car worth $1. nor is it considerable for someone to pay $1 for a $10,000 car... i understand what you're saying and you're right - as long as there is presence of consideration then there is a contract.. but if it ever went to court and an agreement couldnt be reached, i'd say the final decision would come down to how much consideration each party got and whether or not it was fair. you cant just think of it as black and white because magistrates rarely do.
  22. nah.. with all contracts there must be sufficient consideration. the amount paid must reflect what they are paying for and vise versa. if there is no consideration there is no contract.
  23. I never tried the whiteline springs mate. Th eibachs feel pretty good though. Definitely feel good on the track but aren't too stiff for the street. I don't know the spring rates though.
