Pre-88 cars DO need to follow compliance, contrary to popular beleif it's not as simple as "driving it off the boat n going to get plates" ...but it's actually not that far from the truth. fortunately for you as a buyer - pre 88 cars are very easy to import and register, IF they're straight. fortunately for you, you have a passion for quirky 80s japanese cars... ...UNfortunately for you... so does the rest of Japan. and the price for GOOD pre 88 cars is kept high by the local market.. compliance for pre 88 cars are - the car must be signed off by an engineer, depending on what state you live in - this may require it to be an approved engineer. general rule of thumb for compliance of pre 1988 cars is: the vehicle must be compliant to the ADRs that were issued at the time of manufacture. ie: say you import a 1987 Z20 soarer. let's say this example is standard. for arguements sake. that car must be compliant to the rules that applied to australia in 1987. which from recollection were: Cig lighter must work at all times engine must be held in with 3 (or more) pieces of stickytape (or better equipment if available) so in that regard you have nothing to worry about. however early 2010 saw changes to the PRE-88 rule, becuase the department of federal transport decided there were to be NO MORE MODIFIED PRE88 cars!!!! naturally - we all panicked. because to us JDM fans... a "modification" means a new set of rims, and some adjustable suspension. i mean after all - the department of transport issued a release STATING that there were no more modified pre88 cars... but never specified to WHAT a modification IS in their eyes... i think PERSONALLY and humbly... that change to the rule was more to stamp out the importation of things like: a 1932 model T ford body, custom tubbed and fabricated onto the chassis of a PT chrysler in someone's backyard with an LS7 in it... ^^^in that example yes it LOOKS like a 1932 model T ... buuuuut it was a car actually built after pre 88... i think it was more to stamp out cars like that... i personally and humbly still beleive that if you WERE to import a particular Z20 that looks like.... oh., i dunno THIS HOT PIECE OF ASS. then i think that you would be fine to import that particular pre1988 car. i mean - what car HASN'T lived for 25 years and hasn't had it's wheels changed?

sup top bloke *hug* okay when a price estimation says "landed and complied" that means 10,000 landed n complied. including: brokers fee car cost FOB cost cost of boating the car into aust cost of taxes, GST, warfage, quarrantine, steamcleaning, re-inspection.. etc etc.. compliance of the car basically - your landed n complied estimate includes everything UP TO the point of post-compliance... so - on top of this - allow for "other things" that are NOT included: tyres (may or may not be the case - some shops do it - some shops dont brake pads (again some do some dont - depends on the RAWS complying the car) EDIT: and registration in your state - costs vary so much so this is not included in your estimate, so allow a few hundred extra to get some metal numbers put on the bumpers. ^^^those are the things that you MAY get charged on top of your estimate... ...and the reason it's CALLED an "estimate" is to allow for a blow-out here n there... ie: tow truck to tow your car from the warf to the RAWS tow truck to tow your car from the RAWS to your house (if need be) minor costs like this may exceed your estimate, which is why it's called an estimate... the aforementioned information i've provided is applicable ONLY to sevs cars.. so, stay tuned for post #2

Readers: we need some help over here... one of my very dear friends and longtime contributers to SAUWA has just taken delivery of his Y34 Cedric VIP (car is beautiful) anyway - the car is ready to be registered in WA however there's one draw back.. the HID's are still hooked up and connected. he's taking his car for inspection tomorrow morning and we NEED to disconnect the headlights and revert to halogen, I'm doing everything i can to help this guy out.. but i need some advice / walk through here.. does anyone know what to do / anyone know of a walk through thread? in what way does "changing HID lights" differ to "changing HID kits"? do any of you know what type of halogen bulbs the Y34 takes? oh and PLEASE nobody reply giving vague info here - and nobody tell me to "search" because if you do i will hunt you down. i am trying to help a brother out here!

Holy balls. THIS guy.... Far out... Just.. Wow. For reals though... Why do Edward lees keep doing this.. Like la bomba has just shown how a (full offense) halfwit like him is able to prove they did a dirty with the odo.. Like if HE can find it out then why do they continuously do it to their cars? It's retarded. It really shits me to be honest.. 89,000km is NOT A BAD ODO READING!!! there's no need to wind back 1/3 the vehicles life. They have nothing to hide and yet they try this slick shit. And then have the GALL to over inflate the price of the car? Wankers, honestly.. That's what annoys me about australia lately.. If you're gonna rip someone off... At least give them a decent honest service that they're gonna be happy with. Fkn shits me no end that businesses, cafes restaurants supermarkets and bars in Australia bleed consumers dry of their money... But also tell lies to their customers in the fkn process. Bloody wankers. Ps. Bump

haha yeah - what ash said kinda made me laugh - not to say this is NOT a bad thing but i am pretty sure that the fact that an aftermarket parts manufacturer pulling it's operations out of the USA is going to be the LEAST of the average american person's worries... ...poor guys ... and sonnyQ, when you say that "america deserves it" or "serves em right" ..you dont actually mean that, do you? if so - what do you mean by that exactly? surely you can't say that the american people are deserving what is happening to them now...

bahahahhahaha once again the government trolls us all.

Vin it takes anywhere between two days to six months.... they're pretty quick on the ball though... FYI - i have HEARD.... this is just what i've HEARD... from someone i live and hold very close to my heart of hearts that worked on a project with the department of transport... i've heard that the way that our currect system is run... that when you pay the department of transport your fine... ...the department of transport must complete your financial transaction in order for it to be processed by police to deduct your points... in short if your fine is $110.... you send a cheque / BPAY $110.50c as it's 50c over... the transaction is registered in dept of transport as "complete pending refund" to take back the 50c - they must write you a cheque for 50c... until you clear that 50c, the transaction remains incmplete and cannot be handed over to police to demerit your driving record. so the transaction remains forever in the hands of the dept of transport.. and you can not lose demerit points because you're passively blocking the next step in the process... havent given myself the opportunity to try it out yet... awaiting a guinea pig.. ...hint.... hint...

i like both cloth and leather, cloth is quieter and cozier than leather to be honest and man up - if you own a black car it means you have to wash it once a week or so... ...if you own a black car it means you have to give it a detail every 3 months - big whoop least you have a wicked looking car that way!
-
the guys on the JZX forums told me they were, but they may have been having a laugh because AFAIK they are not on the SEVS list... and i dunno i actually saw it on soarercentral. it's balck... immaculate and has CR-kais and a certain in-demand custom plate. perosnlaly if i were him i'd be carrying that car to my grave. i wouldn't even pass it on to my first born incase they get it wet.

well... that's australia, i guess... in some instances i can kind of see their justification... ...i mean (sorry to talk about soarers) but Masato is selling his soarer at the moment i think he wants 23K for it... which YEAH it's a lot of money... but.. where else can you get a 2 door sports coupe with all the features that come with a soarer, plus adj suspension and wide body vertex ridge kit and SSR 19in wheels etc, with custom paint that's actually tasteful etc... i mean in those instances i can kinda see where THOSE owners are coming from... one guy is selling a black R33 GTR for 30 grand... and while that price sounds ludicrous for a 15-17 year old car... ..fact is - it's immaculate. and you can't get a similar car for that price. the japanese market is strange. over here - if a car is modified. it decreases the value, it's labelled as "cop bait" and the car is worth nothing unless you keep every single receipt in a shoebox. over there... mods add value to the car. but yeah - i envisage the crowns to be priced accordingly.. that is either: scenario 1 valued as what you would expect to pay for a 10/12 year old car that's white n silver two tone that needs shaken inspection in about a months' time. scenario 2 valued as what you would expect to pay for a 10/12 year old car that's black onyx paint without a scratch on it. kept in parking garage, looked after leather seats with books and service history, a few mods that keep the car looking like a new car.. and brand new tyres too... price your budget around that

no i won't. haha nah i went out monday night n got driven around in my mates VT commode. and while they are nasty pieces of gutless uninspiring shit... i must admit it was nice to get out of the back seat and have my own door to get out of... kinda made me miss my cefiro a lil bit... so i came home all starry eyed for a JZS171... ...then i found out the difference between crown athlete n crown majesta... and realised i would rather a majesta i don't want another turbo car - i want a V8! Andrew - to be quite honest it's not that they're cheap really... if anything they're appropriately priced - let's be honest, as far as a japanese owner is concerned they're a ~12 year old car that needs inspections done every year now... ...and many are nearing 100,000km which everybody KNOWS that means the car will explode any day now so if anything they're quite reasonably priced... ...there's one at USS that goes up tomorrow in Tuubu... it's 202 black onyx. 101,000km 1UZFE 4 stars 2002 build black paint with tan leather interior has either aftermarket height controller - or aftermarket coilovers... either way it's lowered. rims look like weds kranze somethings's's? kristian would you mind letting us know (pm if you want) (or inbox my facebook) how much this goes through at? http://74.53.162.34/imgs/4IuzCwB6Lua4jzKEDpTRXZOJDqxPBttFSc4OQ2ixKQxJMKqEEwioAi8rxrwAZuoS49MetAUABs auction ID is apparently: FUN3722 because ^^^ that car is what i would be trying to import... i know that compliance is cheap on a test car... but at any rate... i simply cannot justify waiting around for a year or so to await testing etc.. when after getting my damn car delivered to me here out in perth in the year 2012... ...i get this: http://74.53.162.34/imgs/pfzFGIAwxKq6oMmA1VwoTfteFRgkjRGatRzDLvnh9gWmuknWIbbNSbNae2 unless kristian is keen to broker me a white fridge mobile, then comply it... then i on-sell it as someone's project car.. ....THEN get a 202 black onyx baller one ;-)
-
test cars need to be stock stock standard don't they? like not even aftermarket rims are allowed, true or false? if that is the case i might wait for one of the aus-vip guys to get one, if im getting a uzs173 i want aimgain and trafficstars, and i want coilovers too and i want all the judgemental imports guys to get angry at me again fro "bringing in a bloody modified car"
-
luvpsi is that display pic you have taken at the carwash next to the liberty station on beaurfort street??? beeyow. and bubba - that sucks man...
-
hey guys, sorry to zombie up this thread to the top... but is there any news about this? - hoping for kristian to say something like.. ...yes Rowan, there is a particular compliance shop in Sydney that are very on the ball about these and no - it's not going to be like Benrys' Mark2 cos these guys are better" im hoping he says that then hoping he says "all we were needing is a test car" hint.... hint... just sayin - i have heard that apparently there is someone somewhere bringing a test car in... is that true? if it's NOT true... how much would a black majesta be? on YAJ they seem to chase between 400K - 900K which seems very cheap considering these are a few rungs up in toyota heirachy than the celsior - aka Lexus LS400

Honestly matey it's best to just browse these forums Just... Don't go into NA section... People have been known not to return.

They keep track of your movements just like any other computer really... The reality is though - you don't do anything that is that interesting anyway so really it doesn't matter haha As a computer for in car, it's work great... Who wouldn't love a hidef capacative touch screen 7 inch gps screen that can access Internet via froyo etc? But for me personally... All I care about is MUSIC and sound quality and the depths and tones... I love being able to put a favorite piece of music into a good system and be able to say "wow I never heard that tone in this song before" Reason this is, would be because the sound processor works with the alpine unit to "clean up" the shitty mp3s you have and make them sound good... Ie you can have spice girls.mp3 and it'll be at 328 bitrate with perfect treble and bass peaks And you can have deadmau5.mp3 at 92 bitrate with totally f**ked volume settings and blown out peaks at treble... Play this two raw data music files thru a speaker... Needless to say deadmau5 won't sound good... Spice girls will But... You filter the two mp3 through alpine's audio processing software and it'll make both songs sound warm and deep and crisp and pleasant... Unfortunately... A galaxy tablet won't be able to offer that.. What it CAN offer though.. Is great hidef gps, movies, Internet radio streaming, navigation, telephone, etc etc... Which for $299 you can't really go wrong ESP considering u get to take it out with you and use it as a computer etc Unfortunately for me though.. I can't justify paying 300 bucks for something I then have to pay 30 a month for Internet data... Only to use it for ... What is essentially a bigger sized smart phone
-
Yeah so would I man but problem is as discussed is audio quality! Otherwise it'd be great
-
it literally streams bluetooth off your iphone / ipod wireless connection styles yo but i owuld assume for best audio quality - it's best to just plug it in and yes you can make / receive calls from the unit too
