  1. Hi greg from albury... what a horrible horrible way to start your owning of a skyline. it seems whoever your broker is / was has sold you a car that is "parts only" meaning - never to be road registered you can do the following things with that car sell it as a car to be parted out for wrecking sell the car to a wrecker crush the car and forget about the money you lost use the car as a track only car - not road registered wear the car as a hat ...sorry to sound like a prick, bro... but you have been diddled somewhere along the line if your broker or whoever said "this car is compliable" man do i feel sorry for you if you didn't know that it was a parts only vehicle this can mean the car has been crashed hard and repaired, or modified past point of compliance... - so you know what makes it "parts only" EDIT: if you don't mind my asking - how much money has this project cost you thus far? how much yen did you purchase it for in japan? did you get the car inspected? please do not mention names or companies in this thread without permission from moderator / administration staff - this can and will be messy if you do that
  2. **more than. not "then" and i dunno what the heck you're asking. and you'd be better off ringing the police non-urgent line with these questions for a definite answer rather than asking a bunch of forum buffs like ourselves... we're here to help with all things SKYLINE related and NISSAN related... and to a lesser extent other cars of other makes... the law isn't up to us and for what it's worth, mohsen... that "gay" civic type R.. not getting into this arguement with you... but i would much rather the CTR over the GTR... it would probably match if not beat the gtr around most tight tracks too... but not cost the earth to maintain! but - OP - i feel your pain... ... ...actually no wait no i don't i never had trubo P-Plate restrictions. adn for the record - i think the eastern states - in spite of them being more "advanced" than wa (so they think) restricting P-Platers from turbos is a backward way of thinking, people are gonna be dickheads in ANY car they're in... but that's nor here nor there... as for your idea of driving around with no p_plates. wow. revolutionary. why didn't everyone else didn't think that!!! (that is sarcasm)
  3. nic's a fag. i say ban him no really - i vote nic and toffy - these guys are so increidbly dedicated and helpful...
  4. dreGTR - i never said you were being a hard cunt or anything of that nature - you wanted one since you were 9/10 years old? cool story, bro.. doesn't make it legal for you to drive. ever imagine this scenario. you're driving your GTR cops pull you over because they see a provisional plate cops say "any reason why you're driving a turbocharged vehicle in NSW on Pplates there mate?" "well i wanted one since i was like 9 or 10 and simply couldn't wait any longer cos i really wanted one" "oh really? oh well in THAT case i had no idea - please, continue driving the way you were, after all - how was i to know? silly me, sorry to bother you continue... please!" OR - imagine this scenario "any reason why you're driving a turbocharged vehicle in NSW on Pplates there mate?" "well i wanted one since i was like 9 or 10 and simply couldn't wait any longer cos i really wanted one" ...*police officer looks at partner in the squad car, nods his head* "sir, Please step out of the vehicle and place your hands on the bonnet" which of those two sounds more likely? you're 17, you want a turbo. what your intentions are doesn't change the law. you break the law, you get dealt with, same as the rest of the state you live in. clearly (no offense) you have not much of an idea of what it's like being a young driver who wants a turbo. to put it bluntly. you can't have one until you're off your P's. get a non turbo. like the rest of everybody. ...sorry man
  5. you're from WA though - we lucky fu(kers don't have p-pate restrictions! but - what suburb are you from. 50 bucks for a throat punch for you! haha not to whore this topic though - but you're a P-plater from WA. have you got any mates that are jealous of your car and want a fcking wicked import? that's pretty cheap for what it is?? PM me - i'll give you a hefty spotters fee. i'm not joking.
  6. wow - i get that you joined yesterday and skylines are new to you and you're 17 and what not - i understand your enthusiasm.. no really, i do.. but a few things, you're 17. where are you attaining this 20 grand (max) budget? is it a bank loan? because you'll be paying very very high interest on it if it is. furthermore, the R32 gtr is what, 14 / 20 years old now? you honestly think you're going to get a car that old that has "never been thrashed?" think about it - even you said yourself GTR's can go at auction for 5-6K... you honestly think someone is going to spend that little on a car in J that has 4wd 2600cc of twin turbo fury and NOT thrash it? face reality - EVERY gtr has been thrashed. at some point in it's life. and for an extended period of time, too. not to sway your decision away from it - i'm just saying, you want one that's never been thrashed, you're looking at paying about 45-50K for one, as beer baron once said. reality is - R32 is becoming a nostalgic japanese car... their popularity is growing again because they're just getting SO old now a-la kpgc10. please search the forum for common faults with the GTR and you can expect to learn a thing or two in "what you can expect to run into" when owning a GTR, bearings, warped cylinders, engine rebuilds are all commonplace. not to say they are bad cars - i mean, if you have the wallet and dedication for it... i'd say these would be a very rewarding car to own (can't comment myself, never owned one!) "dont really mind about the whole turbo charged Pplater rule lol" ok - why? are you from WA? or do you physically get a "rush" from being pulled over and having your license confiscated.. gtr goes for 5-6K at auctions, and added costs are twice that amount well yes and no yes because it's more than that amount but no because - here's a price breakdown. car - let's be REALLY lean on the budget and 600K yen freight on board - it'll cost more than this for a good one but let's go 600K so 500K yen for the car 95K yen for freight on board (this means de-reg in J, and transferred to the boat) 600K = $7,200 for the car ready for the "next frontier" allow a grand for brokerage fee (trust me. GET A GOOD BROKER. phil (primo) Aaron (import monster) and Kris (iron chef) and the guys from J-Spec all frequent this site and are VERY VERY helpful people. use them. the amount these guys charge is NOTHING compared to the piece of mind, convenience industry contacts and experience these guys all deliver. do NOT TRY TO TAKE THINGS INTO YOUR OWN HANDS. let's round it back now to 8 grand. allow about another grand for taxes, import duties, customs and GST (it WILL be more than this but let's just call it a grand for now) shipping and wharfage and possible storage fees - give that a healthy 2 grand. compliance - depending on what state you're in - you're looking at about $2,200 so for your budget you could get a car worth 800K - 900K yen and still fall in under 20 grand... butttttt then again - you're 17. so allow extra money for things you're going to break on the car. such as the door card you rip while trying to install "lambo" doors or the electrical repairs needed for when you invite mates around to install the stereo you bought from your mate you work with at coles and install yourself because it "can't be that hard" and forget to earth it and somehow end up shorting out your ECU or the power window motor you will break when you make a joke and try to wind your mates head up in the electric window. or the bolts you're gonna have to buy because you got bored one day n thought you'd try your hand at a vinyl re-upholstery job on your seats and undo EVERYTHING and end up losing stuff. not to mention the insurance you're going to get charged for. oh wait - you're 17. NO insurance company will insure a >25yo for a twinturbo. so you won't even have to worry about that. i tell you what. you have a budget of 20K. instead of spending 20K on a car you can't really drive at all, i tell you what... you can just pay me 7 grand and i'll fly to what ever state you live in, catch a taxi to your house and just punch you in the throat then make myself a cuppa tea and fly back to my house. that doesn't sound good at all. but it's about as much fun as you'll have being a 17 year old that owns a GTR. in all seriousness you are 17. turbos are out. you want a car your friends can get driven around in, you have a falsified budget of 20K. you want something fast n sporty ... get an EP3 type R. it's legal, easy to insure. MUCH newer. more fun to drive and less repair bills.
  7. i have a bloke at my work going the same route as this ie: i'm going for a trip to japan in august and gonna buy 8 or so cars - lanEvo, 33GTR and supra and "get em cheap n then flog em off in australia" he doesn't want to use a broker, he wants to do it all himself, i have told him time and time again that it's NOT THAT EASY especially when you're working for the state government at graduate level. if only kristian could send this gent the post he showed here. "outlook not good" hahahha. btw - good one kris.!
  8. *barges into thread and posts inane drivel* HEY YOO GUISE chances are - you won't find that on a japanese car - most japanese interiors aren't too "wow" factor... HOWEVER there ARE cheap dash kits (~$100) to get the bone coloured accents made up... and - if i say so myself... that black is very reminiscent of an aftermarket job... dyeing interior parts is fairly popular in america - such as this SC300 / soarer posted below not to segue the thread away from it's purpose too much BUT for your info in short - he's a normal dude - got a guy to perform the task. and did that two tone conversion in a day - obviously this style of interior isn't "everyone's cup of tea" but i think it looks great, and if anything to the untrained eye / lesser educated person it looks like a factory fit! depends on how much you wanna play cars with it though - i know that if i spent ~40k on a car i doubt i'd wanna be doing that to it!
  9. "graphics as good as stunts did back in the 90s" what?
  10. my gear ratio is (to my knowledge) 42 / 17T but i THINK it could be a 46 at front i can't remember off top of my head using the iphone bike computer app (synchs with GPS and takes your position a 1 sec intervals or something) iphone said i maxed out my top speed @ 56km/h i thought that was a bit maxtreme considering like you said - start from a standstill / track standing start
  11. 35 pages and counting now... fk me... that bike - frame would be very very twitchy and responsive with that downtube... and a ratio of 48/15 fk me that's tough! obvioulsy build for keirin / track but still - very aggressive... apollo should make a street bike using that frame!!! EDIT - just realised it was apollo that made those salt n pepper singlespeeds...
  12. yeah now you mention that... tell a mtb rider not to be a weight weenie when put on marc's new bike then put him on a 24kg bigW SLug!!!
  13. no point being a weight weenie in regard to mountain biking though... you're holding onto the bars for dear life hoping your face doesn't meet rock in the next 10 second or your struggling trying to pedal up a 50 degree incline!!! road bikes i can understand being being pedantic over 20g etc... some hipsters who ride "fixies" sand the paint off their bikes to save weight from the paint.... what a bunch of faggots i say.. marc - more info on the trackbike? i'm curious myself.. is there room for brakes to be drilled??
  14. haha - my alias is 13kg, or 14 kg... i think... pretty sure something like that... not too shabby for a mountain hog... but 10kg fk me that's light... weight never meant much to me on a mountain though
  15. looks sick! that frame will give harsh torque on the up hills too
  16. ^^^^^A1 constructive post. if he imported it himself then FAIR ENOUGH esp if he was working but if he had a decent broker to do it all for him then he really shouldn't have been complaining...
  17. hey guise wanting new sites - what are you looking for, send me a PM and i'll email it to a business associate of mine... peruse their website let me know if you're interested www.spiderdevelopments.com.au
  18. terrible thread is terrible if anyone wants me i'll be outside in my car listening to DMX why?? because... X GO'N GIVE TO YA *ugh* HE GO'N GIVE IT TO YA X GO'N DELIVER TO YA WHAT HE GO'N GET IT TO YA
  19. i'm sure they DO realise it, but i can guarantee you they put themselves to bed that night saying "it's only ME that's done it - nobody else..." "one person won't make an impact"
  20. not to rag on your advice man but that's the official price - i've dealt with this particular bike shop before many times very fast postage too... however i do prefer to purchase locally to help the industry... some things i'm okay with... but other things not so much... for example two weeks ago i got a PAIR of vittoria rubino 700 x 23c 160TPI folding bead in biachi celeste colour for my gf delivered for $75AUD from taiwan - for the pair! my friend however, paid $95 for ONE single white wall 700 x 28c 120TPI wire beaded tyre like i know we as consumers are supposed to support the industry that supports us and i always preach that to people - i also preach "buy cheap, buy twice" with bikes... however with certain things like that tyre example it's ridiculous... it's more than double the price over here.. one time out of desperation i once bought a vittoria rubino form a shop here in perth nobody had stock throughout perth, tried about 20 bike shops... one guy had ONE in stock.... and the single tyre... was off another bike... he wanted $110 for it... IT HAD BEEN FKN RIDDEN ON ALREADY and i pointed scuff marks where it'd been skidded on and dirt from road n manager goes "NUP hasn't been touched mate you're talking shit you want it that bad i can give ya 5 bucks off" sooooooooo case is rrellevant when tlaking about wheels i suppose... but thanks for the diagrams, really showed me a lot! - i didn't really know what you were talking about with the flat surface thing... a lot of dudes over here in perth run the B43 (the B stands for Brisbane) =D haha, anyway alot of dudes run B43 and have brakes on theirs... it's definately something for me to really think about - esp considering the B43 is a weighty rim construct, but that obviously comes with the territory of being a triple wall... good for topspeeds though!
  21. after posting this lastnight i read an interview with one of the american designers... he says that the anodised face just runs the braking surface... and eventually the surface rubs away but the surface is "ready to run brakes" according to velocity $290 - $350 delivered from bell's bike shop over in USA depending on which hubs / spokes i get any chance you can provide advice based on their use / application of what is the best? (no track, mostly street / road riding) cheapest @ $285 delivered middle priced @ $350 delivered with soma somax track hubs anddddddd i dunno why these are so exxy - purple spoke AND somax track hub? EDIT: im not settled on purple... it's up between purple, electric blue... red and white
  22. hey marco - here's the deal i was gonna get a second singlespeed bike basically to share with the missus, erealised exactly WHY converting a fkn repco frame is just DUMB and was looking into just "BUYING" another "fixie" enter the eighth inch (brand) Scrambler (2nd edition frame - much better product) reasons being mostly in the frame BB is 10mm higher to eliminate pedal strike horizontal dropouts - obviously for an SS bike these are must-have) track frame geometry that isn't fkn $1200 on ebay (wtf) (im not kidding people think that frames are worth that much if they're from the 80s) free of branding / decals, marking etc (easier to respray) plus customisable with whatever parts i choose from the factory in any colour this was the demo bike they had in japan as pictured above, it's a little heavier than my c-dale... but for 900 bucks delivered and for a bike that'd essentially be my gf's... i can't complain too loudly... btw - the pink accents are actually red... anyway - then i thought waitaminute wtf am i doing i have a wicked bike i LOVE my bike - why the hell should i get another? if my stupid female companion wants a bike then she can fkn buy her own so i scrapped the idea and wrote a really long post that wasted your time and made you think "well played, sir" but then i thought perhaps while i LOVE my bike... maybe i have lost the lust i once felt for it - and perhaps it's time i manned up n bought a pair of Velocity wheels... point of this post is - do B43's come in machined for brakes? because i can't see any on fleabay... i hear people talking on forums saying "run the brakes over the paint and the brakes will take the paint off" but i doubt this would be a good idea... because the rim is a smoothe surface and the brake would be useless.. i want to slow down or stop. not die so do B43 come in machined? and if not - would an engineer with a laithe be able to machine them? or should i just give up on B43 and start looking into DeepV's
  23. Kristian - i was about to actually put up a new thread regarding what i'm about to ask - and sorry for going off topic - but i read an article by you in a HPI mag yesterday, about how a middle aged woman was commissioning you to find her a 4 seat 300zx, i dunno how old it was but at the end you said "find out how the story ended in next month's issue of HPI" however - this "issue" came in a pack of 3, ie, u buy current issue get two random issues with it... sooooooooooooooooooo i've read the story... but don't have the means to find out how it ended - did you find what she was looking for? the suspension's killing me!
  24. i see no bodykit? i just see a stock bodied skyline painted orange i dunno what you guys are talking about c-c-c-c-combo breaker
