  1. Can someone please clarify the above? Is the rear windscreen not a window that the driver uses to obtain a view of the road (trying to understand the tinting laws)?
  2. Thanks wrxhoon, but are not the Series 1 and Series 2 bars different? I assume that Series 3 is the same as Series 2 excluding the lower front lip? Does anyone know how much it would cost to get one made up in fiberglass or another material (plastic-like)? (front bar or lower lip, I think it was ~$250 from unique auto sports for a fiberglass lower lip). Regards, Gareth
  3. Hi, I've recently purchased a car through an importer over in Japan, I'm very happy with my purchase excluding the 400R front bar that it has. I've seen a few other after-market front bars and I don't really like any of them more than the 400R front bar and I'd prefer to have a stock front bar. I'm just wondering how much a Series 2 or 3 front bar would cost? I've had a look on yahoo auctions as the car has not yet left the country and I've found one but the owner wants >$1000 for the bar, however the front bar is "brand new" according to the ad. Any idea how much an R33 GTR front bar is worth? This is for a white 1998 GTR. Regards, Gareth P.S. searched but only found people trying to buy R33 GTR front bars.
  4. "All windows of a motor vehicle, other than windscreens available to the driver to obtain a view of the road or other road users must have a light transmittance of at least 35 per cent...", it then mentions that its desirable windows to the side and ahead of the driver are not reduced below 70% transmittance, and another section on windscreens say it can only be tinted during manufacturing. If this rule is 35% tint all round then there would be a lot of vans and other cars been defected for the black tint that you cannot see through? Regards, Gareth
  5. Unfortunately its not that simple, some 96 models are Series 1, and some are Series 2, there are even Series 1.5 (somewhere in between series 1 and 2). The differences are usually the steering wheel and front lights/bonnet, and front bar, I'm sure there's more info somewhere in the forum about that.
  6. Sorry to bring this thread back alive again, just noticed a couple of pages back that someone mentioned the Victoria legal modifications. If you do upgrade your intercooler AND you have a ARC airbox is this illegal in Victoria? Edit: Oops, the rules state that if you have a larger intercooler then you cannot have any intake/exhaust system modifications. I don't get the "exhaust part", doesn't everyone with an upgraded intercooler have an aftermarket exhaust? I now do understand that you couldn't have ARC airbox + intercooler because that would be an intake modification and thats not allowed with an intercooler (according to that EPA letter on legal mods in Victoria) Regards, Gareth
  7. I found this place: Easy Street If your getting a car loan you may be able to find a cheaper price with many of the credit unions (the above company does unsecured loans). Try the sites: InfoChoice And Cannex There's a lot of places that lend out money...
  8. I was in a similar situation and the person at fault had to pay any required excess, I assume that the insurance company (AAMI) would have sued for damages at the time. Regards, Gareth
  9. Well it doesn't look legit. Payment methods: "Money order/Bank cheque"....err thats a big money order/bank cheque! Ebay has *some* forms of protection but at that price it looks very dodgy.
  10. Hmm, I'm not sure about that rule, but I'm sure it says somewhere that (at least in vic) you cannot kill the engine unless the car is stationary. I believe the systems do not disable the ignition if the car is not stationary but I could be wrong. Also, I'm unsure of any differences with company's like quiktrak
  11. I haven't used any of these products but will be interested in using them later this year to next year when I get my new car... I'm just confused on your comment about Ezitrak vs CarMinder, how does Ezitrak use voice, data and sms to communicate? I am aware that it can call and sms. To quote there website: Well so does CarMinder, CarMinder can be set to ring you as well as sms. CarMinder also gives UBD street directory information, this could be useful. Does Ezitrak do the same? Does anyone know how much ezitrak costs? I'm interested in more opinions on this, I know quiktrack has a good reputation in the areas it covers, although I haven't heard much about Ezitrak or Carminder...
  12. Looks like a database issue. Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' Unspecified error So, no your not the only one
  13. Hmm, not bad . My plan was to one day integrate it into the dash, but I don't know if there would be enough room without a lot of cutting in a skyline. That and it would take me forever to install because I would keep making changes (when I do eventually get my skyline that is)
  14. Hmm, there's a lot of discussion of this on the sites dedicated to it: http://mp3car.com/ The ideas cool, free GPS appears to be almost impossible for Australia. The paid for GPS are integrated into some applications and not others. Boot-up times are a problem. Although the creator of pyCar, http://pymedia.org/pycar/index.html got his bootup close to 10seconds (linux). Of course you can get fast times on windows too. Anyway, just my 2cents, its a very interesting field and rapidly evolving too (I would like to see some installs in Skylines, I haven't seen any yet!).
  15. Legalaid exists in Victoria, but I'm unsure under what circumstances they are allowed to assist you. They have a number of restrictions on what they can do. So try the QLD website: http://www.legalaid.qld.gov.au/
  16. I've seen a couple of alternatives besides quiktrak: http://www.ezitrak.com/ And http://www.carminder.com.au/index.htm I have not used any of them and don't know much about them. But if you do end up buying one I'd be curious to opinions - Gareth
  17. That sounds like a great idea, and implementation could be straightforward except for a few complications. Are there any legal complications? In particular the privacy laws prevent certain information from being displayed on a website, would it be required to hide the badge numbers? Could the officers names be shown on a website? Would the system need to only show the details of the number of complaints against X officer to particular individuals who are administering the system? Furthermore, who would host the system? Anyone hosting the system *may* be seen a stirring trouble with the police. How would things be controlled? Who decides who can enter a complaint about an officer? Would the compliants be moderated? Who would moderate them? Thats a few of the questions that come to mind when suggesting a national register (yes I think it is a good idea ). Regards, Gareth
  18. You used to be able to use the bittorrent file that was in the old thread. Although people have to start seeding it for you to download it...
  19. Oh, the UK GTR site has a paint code list too: http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/upload/showthre...ight=paint+code
  20. Don't worry, as soon as he mentioned escrow, and not a major shipping company I pulled out of it. I offered to see the car in person and never got a response. I also found the car on carpoint.com.au (he got some higher res pictures of the car and the VIN number of the car). Heres a URL, don't know if it will work: http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/DesktopDefa...lias=carpointau P.S. I was suspicious the entire time, I would never have just sent cash blindly!
  21. Lol, found the pictures of the car pictures I was sent on Carpoint.com.au, at the price of 30 or was it 35K... Except the pictures I've seen are more high-resolution, I wonder if the VIN number matches up... Anyway, I've got some curiosity questions about what sites people use to find skylines (carpoint, carsguide, drive.com.au etc.) and what a realistic price is for a series 2 or 3 R33 GTR but I think I'll leave that to a future thread Can't believe I made enquiries about that car (it looked a bit dodgy from the start!), should have trusted my instincts...
  22. Ok, thanks for the info. Yes, it does look a little like a scam now the more I look at the deal... Thanks for that
  23. There asking 15K which is unusally cheap. He said a friend brought it into the Country and he can't register it so he wants to send it back to Australia where the registration is current. Maybe he just wants a quick-sale, but its still unusually cheap.... No, I wouldn't pay $3700 for a GTR, because thats a real scam (unless it has being stripped of all its parts ). I've posted in the VIN number at the end of the FAST software thread (33 pages or so) and I'm awaiting a reply...(please someone check for me! ). The shipping company is an escrow service which I don't like.... Thanks, Gareth
  24. Hmm, the rego plates on it are NSW....(and I can see the rego, who do I call to get it checked? NSW registration people (I'm in Vic)). However, the seller is asking for $3.7K down deposit or 50% through a shipping company. With the remaining balance paid upon arrival, http://www.cattalan-shipping.com/ I'm not too sure about that shipping company either. And while the car may be a bargain, I'll probably pull out of this sale (or say I'll pay $$$ when I can see the car, not before , or do a small deposit). Also who can I call to check the VIN number? Nissan?
  25. No, fortunately its not . This car was on drive.com.au a little while ago... Although the price is a little on the cheap side, I'm checking things out (I'm posted a VIN number in the thread about the Nissan FAST software) and I'm being careful about things. However, the seller has said I can pay when the car arrives in Australia, not before (which sounds like a legitimate sale). However he does want a deposit...(waiting on the amount before I make a decision), but thats understandable. I've seen pictures of the car and a VIN number so far . Although pictures don't mean much Oh, the problems weren't with importing it. But registering the car over there....(according to the seller)
