  1. How did you go fitting the Optima in the Skyline? I am looking at a new battery for my 33 GTR as the factory one is tiny and rooted. I haven't taken all the bracing out yet so haven't sized up what I've got to work with but the options for the battery seem very limited by the size of battery you can fit in. At the moment I am thinking of goind with the Odyssey 1000, but would much prefer the Optima/Exide if at all possible.
  2. Congratulations Cam, glad you sold it (I emailed you about it a few times but ended up getting a big loan and a 33 GTR). Hope to see you on the tracks someday, drop me an email sometime if you're intereted in meeting up and doing some real slow driving Steve PS Boxhead: Don't kid yourself that a 4WD means he won't still be spending all his money on his car, my GTR has a lot of catching up to do before it eclipses the cost of the 4WD. At least the tyres are cheaper on the GTR
  3. Cheers for that, info is very descriptive I'll give it a go once I get a new battery in.
  4. Suncorp Metway insured mine, I am a relatively old fart though. I don't think they are keen on mods or young drivers, you can try their online quote system it was pretty good and close to the final premium.
  5. Thanks for that, can you give me a clue on where *exactly* I can find this vacuum pipe? Seems to be lots of hoses under this bonnet. And to confirm, once it's out that is it? No need to have anything done to the R33 ECU? Won't it run lean?
  6. I'm a newby here so have a few questions relating to info in this thread, my apologies if it has been covered already. where is this restrivtor you speak of? how do you remove it? does the factory ecu then account for the change in boost or do you have to get the car dyno'd/tuned? i thought the r33 ecu was not programmable, therefore what can be achieved with an r33 by having it dyno'd? thanks Steve
  7. You could try http://www.are.com.au/ Never used 'em, don't know 'em, so judge for yourself.
  8. I take it that the Dyno day never went ahead. I drove past about 11.30 today hoping to meet a few people but there was no sign of life.
  9. Can you remember how you did it? Is there a certain wire I should pick up out of the head unit?
  10. See Fusebox at http://community.webshots.com/user/uqunder10s Many thanks Steve
  11. Clock and CC fixed with fuse replacement, antenna still not working. Also the electric mirrors aren't working - adjustment or folding. Anyone got any ideas which fuse they run off?
  12. Can anyone help me out with the fusebox layout for an R33 GTR? Cheers Steve
  13. I've just got an R33 GTR and have a couple of queries on some of the interior electrics which I think are not working correctly but I have nothing to compare them to. The climate control resets every time the ignition is turned off, ie I have to turn the unit on and set the temperature every time I drive the car. Is this how it should operate or should it retain the settings from the previous use? The electric antenna does not go up. It has a Clarion CD player fitted and the antenna does not go up when the radio is switched on or by using the button on the dash. How should the antenna operate? Finally my clock resets too 1.00 every time the ignition is turned off/on. It is also very dim all the time whether the lights are on or not. Wiring, I guess? Cheers Steve
  14. I think we're in agreement, although it was flagged to me on a 4WD forum that I initiated that as the initiator I may be liable for any outings organised through that forum. Indeed other forums were closed for that fact, personally I thought it was total paranoia and pandering to a system which I feel is wrong. As for the liability of an individual who provides a map and suggests a meeting point I wouldn't know. I think that a cruise probably doesn't cause the same headaches as a 4WD trip as you will be using public gazetted roads which have laws governing their use, whereas we may be using non gazetted tracks. If someone were to organise a skid pan session by getting a group together on the roof of Towong Village with the fire hose going and something happened then I think the chances of the individual being successfully sued would be much greater. Travelling lawfully in a group on public roads shouldn't really be an issue.
  15. It's definitely a scenario that could eventuate in todays society. I am in a 4WD club and as we are an incorporated body and we have liability insurance, club members are covered for such an eventuality if they were leading a club trip at the time. I am also a member of a few 4WD mailing lists and this topic has been brought up several times regarding the personal liability if you were the one to suggest and lead a trip, particularly given that you have no idea of the competency of any of the participants on the trip. Indemnity forms and waivers are not worth the effort due to the current state of the legal system. I have heard (never confirmed) that for an indemnity waiver to be valid in must be presented to the signatory at least 28 days in advance of an event so that they have sufficient time to seek legal advice before signing and participating. They must also be specifically advised to seek legal advice. These lawyers are just on a constant winner aren't they! Steve

Steve Age 30 Just got an R33 GT-R Love it! http://community.webshots.com/user/uqunder10s
  17. Sorry for the newby query but "35mm"? I'm getting some King Springs in a GT-R, should be factory height as it is currently too low to get in my driveway.
  18. They do good work IMHO but they do cost, and they like to do extra work which they expect you to pay for. Make it clear what you want them to do and that they must call you to agree on anything extra. This is from experience with 4WD's not Skyline's.
  19. I had similar with Just Cars. Quoted $1900 for GT-R, went to pay the following day "sorry mate that quote was wrong it's $2300". I hung up. Ended up getting it insured with Suncorp - $1650 ! Now that I was pleased with. 30yo with full NCB and 2 recent accidents.
  20. Could someone PM me a contact number for MR-GTR please. I tried the mobile number that I found in some old messages but it has been disconnected. Ta Steve
  21. Although they can prove they wrote it I think Nissan also have an obligation to provide an owners manual if requested. Would probably be in Japanese and naff all use, they might prefer you not to trouble them anyway.
