Home Built Z 'Full video build'
GTofuS-T replied to Home Built By Jeff's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Subscribed! Looks to be an awesome build to come. Quality video too, jealous of your garage! -
Sounds like it's just a loose a/c or powersteering belt, there should be a guide on here on how to tighten, or look at their condition and replace if necessary

Is anyone actually interested?

How to determine what series rb25det i have?
GTofuS-T replied to tishan's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
1 one, assuming it's running standard coilpacks, if it's a series 1, it should have an ignitor pack at the back of the engine like so: Series 2 has the ignitors in the coils so should look like this (just a plug): I'm sure there's a million other ways someone else can chime in on -
Should be good to watch, especially a certain QLD resident and his affinity for 4x4ing at QR Rhys 4x4ing.mp4

Do you mean cost per litre? ebay shows $40/500ml
-
I think i saw it at $110/5 litres, the only cool part would be includes free oil testing to see how it's handling the abuse (i believe?)

How to tell an auto conversion
GTofuS-T replied to lizzy176's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I imagine the build plate should have some indication of whether it's Manual or Auto from factory. Example: (RE4R01B is the auto trans code, not sure what the manual code is, someone else may be able to help there) -

GTofuS-T replied to Billy 34's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
No, the GTR rear coilovers are the fork style same as R34 GT-T, the GT is eyelet as above which woudl be the same as R33 GTS-T (and GTS I would assume?) -

All of them. Most popular atm seems to be MCA, could also go HSD/BC/Tein/ebayspec/pedders/bilsteins depends on your budget and application Edit: MCA is from QLD, support the locals -
I personally believe your STI as is, some nice rubber around a circuit will be hell more fun and reliable than anything in Roll Racing, straight line is so boring, plus on the circuit you get to do that roll racing bit anyway, then hold it round turn 1 holding on for dear life but with the biggest smile you've ever had

rb25 R33 S1 popped and banged mid drift, now won't start.
GTofuS-T replied to SHOWOFFR32's topic in General Maintenance
I believe there's wiring that runs through the drivers side wheel well that commonly gets rubbed through when lowered/larger wheels/tyres and I'm sure full lock while drifting wouldn't help. So maybe check that out?- 5 replies

If i was only planning on launching and going in a straight line, best bang for buck would be a V8 commodore or Falcon (or XR6t) or similar for <$1k and throw a supercharger on it! The cars you've listed would be more suited for circuit, Honda's are slow but high revving n/a's, no good for launching, 200sx and skylines also suit circuit or drifting better than roll racing /drags unless you're putting in stupid money. 5K may get you some power in a skyline but you won't have any traction.

and heaps on FB sub $7k

$40,000 AUD in 1989 is equivalent to $81,500 in 2016 and to put that in another context, in 1989 median house prices in sydney were $170k, so an R32 was 23% of a house, pretty significant, today, median house price is $1.15M, so that 81,500 is only 7% of a house. But they're not selling for that, they're are 35,000ish? Ok so Sydney is ridiculous, let's have a look at Brisbane, 96000 in 1989 to 655,000 latest, that's 41% to 12%, same same. But if want to stay in absolute dollar land to justify your investment, by all means, proceed

The issue i see with this perceived investment opportunity is the whole lifecycle cost of owning a GT-R, I doubt many people (except maybe those high-end low mileage R34's) have bought one at 10,000 to 20,000 and let it sit, maintaining it enough to not deteriorate, and then selling it at a profit. INstead they've spent 10's of thousands of dollars upgrading it or nismo-ing it, rego, insurance, etc And should we talk about inflation in this scenario? that 20,000 you spent in 2000 has inflated to 30,000 in 2016. so has the value of the GT-R eclipse all this? But Birds you've made a lot of good points, especially about the obscure market, if it's being driven by FnF fan bois than the price will be capped and I can't see exotic collectors caring about too much but who knows, and like any market no one truely knows with certainty what's going to happen and if they did why would they share?

On a stock ecu you'll have to keep the boost at or not much above standard, so the side mount will be fine.

Hey and welcome!! Where are you located? Track days are awesome, I was super daunted to get started but it really is super easy and fun!

I love it when problems become obvious like that. in regards to the oil in the intake, could be a turbo seal, HOWEVER, your current leak suggest the turbo has come off at some point in the near past, so the previous owner could have replaced a shagged turbo with another one. So best case is the oil is from before and wasn't cleaned up. OR time for a new turbo/hi-flow/etc...
