  1. r33cruiser is right about the cost, the EMU was not cheap plus, as he said not many tuners like to tune it (which is a valid reason not to get it). For me, I find it awesome because I am technical person and love to play with it. I record drives almost daily on my laptop via USB 2, analyse the graphs it records and adjust the tune each night. I find it easy and fun. My last tune on the dyno (by my mechanic) yielded 323rwhp @12-14psi (sorry I am turbo) With the EMU I can maintain a pretty consistent desired AFR and I can modify ignition timing. If I was manual I probably would have tried to source a PowerFC - I've heard so much positive info about them, however they are hard to find these days. The SAFC is cheap, and looks good, but doesn't allow tuning of ignition timing (which is where the best gains can be found). I have a friend with one on a Honda and he is happy with it (so simple we wired it ourselves) After getting my EMU, the NisTune chip came out which my mechanic has been promoting since. It may be another option for you. I wouldn't say don't get the EMU, but I would agree it is not the cheapest option and requires some patience to get setup and get results. I also agree with the above posts that money would be better spent on other mods first. I only needed the EMU because I have heaps more airflow since upgarding the turbo.
  2. I have an R34 GTT with an Emanage Ultimate. The choice was easier for me because I have an auto so a piggy-back computer is the easier option. I have an aftermwarket turbo installed so I needed an ECU to cater for the additional fuel needs. I think the EMU is great. I have a lot of fun playing with the tune. I have a wideband O2 sensor to monitor AFRs.
  3. Hey Haines, How certain are you we should have our kncock set to "resonant" and 7.02? I ask because I want to be sure I can trust the signal I am getting before I advance my timing much more. Isn't the frequency dependent on the bore and stroke of the engine? Does that mean it wouldn't be the same for different models of skylines? I had a good thread going on this before emanageforums went down So much information lost in a matter of senconds. I hope someone is able to revive the information that had been gathered at that site... You said I'm sort after? Who else is looking for me? JJ

Hey Pear, Your lucky day - I'm the guy from Perth I've attached my notes - An Excel Spreadsheet with 3 tabs. each tab shows a device (LC-1, Old Oxygen Sensor, EMU) and what the cables were connected to and should be changed to. I made my own EMU front panel connector using a internal computer audio plug - worked better than I expected. The hardest bit was running the wiring between the engine bay and the cabin. LC-1 is working great - I've used the EMU auto tune function to help home in on my desired AFR. On to Knock and ignition timing now, but I've hit some sort of turbo pressure issue I've got to sort.   5. Thanks for the quick reply Cubes. I'll do a comparison tomorow morning when it's cold against after a long drive and let you know. I took it to the mechanic yesterday and told them the engine light had come on. They plugged some sort of hand held device into a wiring loom under my dash and read the errors. The only error was something to do with the o2 sensor. Does this confirm your theory of coil pack can lead to bad o2 reading? Or does this mean my o2 sensor is stuffed? The mechanic did mention the other likely cause could be blocked injectors?
  6. Hi all, great thread. I can't believe such a simple idea works. My car is experiencing a different problem, but my mechanic is sure it is the coil packs and wants me to replace them with Splitfires. The symptom I have is: When the car is in neutral, if I rev to around 2000-3000rpm, the car splutters and spits (misfire?). It also seems to effect driving when I am coasting at one speed. When I am accelerating or decelerating, there doesn't seem to be a problem. I've recently had a the fuel pump changed (becuase of a missfire issue under load at around 4500rpm - seemed to fix the problem) and the timing belt changed (I thought it was about due) as well as a service including spark plugs. The problem seemed to start after this. In the last week I've noticed my check engine light come on 3 different times while driving on the freeway (knock sensor?). Does this sound like a coil pack issue? My car is a 98 R34 GT-T. Thanks for any input.
  7. I had the same symptoms about a month ago with my R34 - misfirung under load at aroung 5krpm. Turned out to be the Fuel Pump. Replaced with bigger one (after a headache removing my Amplifiers to get to it) and walla - all fixed.

  10. This is uncanny!!!! I just got all of my brake pads replaced on Monday with "Green Stuff" and they squeak like hell!!!!! I came on the forums to post and see what you guys had to say - but you've already discussed it - wow!!! I've already had some compound put on them - but it didn't help much. I will be trying the "bed it in" theory as soon as the weather dries up then! I'l let you all know how it goes. Scags

  15. Hi All, Let me introduce myself: I'm Jarred (aka scags) a SAUWA member from over the west. I'm in Sydney for the next week for work until Friday 21st Jan. I pretty much have nothing to do all weekend, so I was wondering if any friendly SAU members wanted to take me for a spin, maybe see the sites or take me to a SAU event. I'm staying at the Mecure hotel on Broadway. Back in Perth I own a 1998 R34 GTT and I miss it.   18. I'd go the R34 GT-T over the R33 GTR any day (Well, actually, I did ). 1. R34 looks better 2. R34 is newer 3. R34 is rarer 4. R34 is better value 5. Stock R34 GT-T has same power as stock R34 GTR (well - at least on paper) and you can still get plenty more out of it. R34's also have VVT Of course the pluses for the GTR 1. Well - it's a GTR 2. More torque 3. More mod potential 4. AWD Jarred
  19. Hey SliM, I recently had to make this same decision. Buy a Supra MKIV TT or a Skyline R34 GT-T (actuall Sylvia S15 was another option). Everyone here seems to be concentrating only on power and speed. Although I LOVE these things, they are not all that matters when buying a street car. I went with the R34 GT-T in the end, and I am not disappointed! I have actually driven both, and would recommend you do before buying to see what suits YOU best. But some of the points theat made me choose R34 were: * I was looking for a "newer" car. Supras have a dated look, R34's look meaner. A 1996 TT MKIV costs more than a 1998 R34 GT-T and generally the MKIVs have done more kms. Try comparing the price of a 1998 MKIV TT to a 1998 R34 GT-T * R34's are rarer on the streets * If I was getting a MKIV I would want it to be Aerotop - but you can't get Aero top with TT because the chassis can't handle it. * I hear that modifying a TT is much more hassel than a single T. Having said all that, both are awesome cars, it was a close decision in the end for me - I still twist my neck when I see a MKIV on the road Why is the GTR not in my choices? Because R32 and R33 GT-R's were too old for my selection criteria and R34's cost double the other cars so don't really fit into this comparison. Remember car old = car problems.   21. Hey Driver, I am the proud owner of a GT-T too. You will be in love again once shes all fixed up. As for getting it fixed... My Dad owns Ginos Panel and Paint one of the top Panel and Paint shops in Perth, they will do an awesome job of fixing it up. The phone number is 9430 7288 website www.ginos.com.au (website DNS seems to be down right now, so try http://165.228.4.139) My Brother also works there, he said that if a panel is keyed or scratched the correct way to fix it is paint the whole panel. Anyways if you do decide to drop in, you will get quoted by either my brother or my dad, so they will recognise your car They may not be the cheapest around, but they will do the job properly and it will look awesome.   22. He All, I just got my R34 about 2 months ago and it is Auto. I have come from a Manual only background. I went with an auto because I do drive in peak traffic and figured the tiptronic would cater for the 'fun factor' and, well, it's damn hard to find a quality R34 in Perth so when you find one it doesn't matter what transmission you have! Anyway, I have to admit I am a bit dissapointed with the responsiveness of the tiptronic gear changes. I was hoping it would still feel like a manual gear change. If there is a way to make the auto transmission better I think I would go there. I was considering changing the transmission to manual (don't really know whats involved here) but I'm not one of those "it has to be manual to be a sports car" people, so I would also be open to "improving" the auto to make it more responsive. What 4door_sleeper has sounds fantastic - can you give us any more info? As an aside, I will eventually be doing some ECU changes and I know the AT/MT has some impact on this. Oh yeah - How do I drive my Auto? In traffic I leave it in auto; Otherwise I generally go to manual mode to shift down for corners and back to auto - I keep switching (Is this bad for it? ) I've tried to do a take off in manual mode, but I think the auto does it better Cheers, Jarred
  23. Yeah it is hell fast - well compared to my previous ride. It IS auto which is a bit unfortunate. That was one of the things I liked better about yours, also yours was lower - but that will be fixed soon It has the sports mode on the steering wheel, so that is some compensation. I may look into changing the transmission eventually, but I don't know if that is an impossible (or too costly) task? It has some really nice mods though and they are all high quality. The car is in near new condition too. Where did you get your new yellow R34? What needs to be done to it before you put it in PAS? Cheers, Jarred
  24. Hey All, Yeah - I'm looking at getting my new ride in PAS. I'm a little bit uncertain as I haven't put a car in a show before and don't know what "show room condition" means. Also haven't had the car long enough to give it my touch. Any advice anyone can give on what I should do to get it up to scratch would be greatly appreciated. Erik - your black ride was sweet, but I chose this one over yours - so that should tell you which one is better!! - haha - Just jokes your car kicked ass - I hope your new yellow one is even better - can't wait to see it - I love R34's.
