Just opening up the exhaust is not necessarily the answer. The extreme would be to remove the exhaust system altogether but, for those of you who have experienced it, if the exhaust breaks near the manifold, all power is lost. For a normaly aspirated (non-turbo) engine in particular it is important to retain a certain amount of back pressure. The reasons for this are all to do with exhaust scavenging which is to do with negative pressure pulses reflected back up the exhaust manifold to remove the last of the exhaust waste from the engine.

illusive, ask your physics teacher lol.

so they are not just show braces..? I've seen some around that are so thin they aint gonna do jack and are just for looks..
-
Sounds logical the_stink.. nice explanation The gist remains the same and 2.5 seems a good size to proceed with. In the way of mufflers, what do other NA skyline owners have?
-
Hi [D4RKS1D3], How much it set you back? Which one is it from this list.. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopdis...one=main&id=386 Anyone know whats happening with that group buy? cheers chicane

how much functionality do these provide? doesnt look like much adjustment in there..
-
too late for an r33 front i guess..
-
ok people this thread has gotten way off track - it seems that some backpressure is good with NA engines, and it seems that 2.5" diameter piping is ideal as well.. lets get some actual useful knowledge in this now! What mufflers are a good choice? If you have got an NA skyline, and have an aftermarket exhaust, post up what muffler you have (its specs as well if possible) and what you think of it... cheers
-
Misunderstanding of basic terminology on your behalf perhaps.. Never have i heard a 'tip' being the muffler..
-
Rubbish. The tip is largely cosmetic - its a combinaton of primarily the exhaust pipe (from catback to muffler), the actual muffler, and resonators.
-
Thanks for the recommendations SRW-1! Is this what you have? Ideally like to hear from other NA Skyline owners, posting up what muffler/combo's they have - Or does everyone here have stock peashooters?

O_o.. Come on people!

Hi All, Im wanting to get a new exhaust/muffler for my NA R33. Anyone recommend a shop to do the job in Melb (Inner Suburbs) ? Cheers! .::cHiCaNe::.

Hi All, It's time to get a new exhaust/muffler for my R33 RB25DE GTS4.. Currently it has a Genie tri-flow/reverse-flow ('turbo' style) muffler, 2 resonators and 2.5" mild steel piping for the straight section, then it steps up with a bolted flange to 3" at the bends (I got it off a mate who changed his muffler on his gtst, which was 3") trumpet style, haha. Muffler has a loose baffle now and sounds crap, and i'm sick of the drone. The ideal new setup would flow a bit more freely than the stock system (of course keeping sufficient back pressure), don't want to any drone at 100KM/H, however when on the pedal a little bit louder than stock would be good. But not something that will attract the police, etc. So I'm after a new muffler/fitting. Can anyone recommend what mufflers are good for this job? are an exhaust shop in the city/surrounding suburbs area that can do it? Prices? cheers, chicane

R33 AC Comprssor Noise / Climate Control Button Pushed In?
chicane replied to chicane's topic in General Maintenance
oor33sky_: I believe there is a way to calibrate the temp via the diagnostic mode, I think I might need to do it to mine because yeah put it on 18, and it blows ice cold, put it on 19-20 its warmish.. Ant: The noise is only made when the compressor first starts.. I'll pull out the console and see if the button can be fixed tonight I think! Cheers -
Hi all, Have noticed recently when using the AC (when the compressor turns on) there sounds like a metallic chirping sound / belt slipping sound coming from the compressor. Can I fix this, or does it mean its on the way out? (Fitted a 2nd hand one last summer, but the engine was pulled out after the accident about 8 months ago. Also, somehow (or someone!) has pushed in the AUTO button on my R33's climate control console - Its now on an angle. I'm going to pull it out to have a look, but seeing as i posted about the compressor I thought i'd mention it. Has anyone had this happen before, and is it fixable? Or do i need to get a new console front? Cheers chicane

Hi All, Have noticed a noise with my R33 that has started to develop since I had an accident 6 months ago (where i was hit drivers side front quarter). The noise comes from what i think is the front left suspension (that was not damaged at all), under hard braking / going over a bump in the road / when the weight is transferred to the front of the car it goes CLUNK. Then when the weight goes to the back of the car (say accelerating), it clunks again, like its clunking "back". Obviously the best thing would be to go to a suspension shop and tell them what ive posted here and see what they have to say, but does anyone here have any ideas what the problem may be? Thanks! chicane
