Lets just leave it at "He is one of the few that do most of the work"... One thing about forums, people can stay under the radar to a certain extent. Once they disclose their position roll or job in the comunity, they must then tow their sponsors or employees line. IMHO he is one person we want to remain in the sport(in his current position), as he is a competitor... therefore experiences our concerns first hand. TT

For those who aren't sure already, this guy knows his tarmac rally stuff, and its great to have him in the forum. Octagon as a shareholder driven organisation, have the right to derive profit from the performance of it operating arms. In Targa Tasmania, they have a core product so good, that people will come to compete... they will even continue to compete many times despite the lack of procedures in place to guide the poor volunteers, despite a timing system that simply does not reflect the status (International) of the event. The technology is available for timing, but we seem to be trialled with cheap homegrown alternatives... I would suggest most competitors would not flinch at cost sharing (similar to Dorian) if it meant timing issues were a rarity rather than a common occurrence. If CAMS accreditation gives people in positions like CROWS(some are great) more an idea of their job description - great. (They are meant to be competitor reps - not event organiser defenders) However, from my opinion, we are about to see the greatest Tarmac Rally on the planet slip into oblivion if the slide is not arrested. The contribution it makes to the Tassy economy will go and all those who have yet to compete will have the history books to look at... To Octagon, I plead by way of this open letter. Please deliver a timing system that works. Please keep a good relationship with local councils so the roads are not sealed prior to the event. Please show the competitors you are giving us something back for the increased revenue generated by increased event sponsors (the window band cost me personally $5000.00) Please do not let Targa Tasmania go the way of it European ancestors. Please help your band of volunteers by putting procedures in place to cover unusual situations. Please ensure an efficient TRA is carried out. (It will drastically lower the risk of Natone type incidents). Please dont let TT slide. These are but a few things, which will help ensure the projected date Calender will run its course for many years to come. Something we all wish. If t01-100, have the ear of people who count, please pass this on as contructive criticism... Our team will be back, I hope, to accept the Challenge. And I suggest If you want a week of stress, emmotion, adrenelin, fun, and new friends all rolled into one. Do Targa Tasmania.... next year. TT

I think the idea of one set of regs whether the draft ones or a revised edition is the way to fly. It means you can read the regs, select a car, then go racing with like minded people... when regs allow high level of mods, then cubic dollars wins. In tarmac rally, they are trying to group cars relative to performance, and so far have done a good job. There are many other issues that need to be addressed for the longevity of the sport... Timing for instance is a must! And the fact an event like TT will need 3000 CAMS accredited officials next year will surely see it turned into a clover leaf event AKA WRC & ARC. The new draft suits STi & EVO's plus Corolla's as you can run one of Batesys prototypes.... I dont know if thats good or bad, but the sport must improve in its admnistration or punters will talk with their feet TT

Our amazing crew drove to Ross, meeting one of the boys wives who had gone to my shed... and she actually grabbed a std oem gasket box from all my crap... (we couldnt get the car out of the expo till 10:30pm without penalty) All this only to find that Dave Griffiths "Griffiths Automotive" had a gasket set waiting with a coffee when we arrived. This is an unashamed plug for one of the nicest guys in the sport. X Jordan F1, X Silk-Cut Jag, and more. If you have an import, try Dave... very switched on and a nice guy to boot. 13th on Day one was a reward for our crew... but you cant aim a top 30 car at the top 10 in Targa - it will end in tears - and it did. We have proved a GTSt can win class and finish 24th ('03) Next time I am going to prove what I can do in an outright contender.... Just had a look at an VIII.5 RS today actually Will keep my eye on site as a firesale coming soon.

Yeh mate,,, As is always the case, unless you are running near someone you don't catch up to them too often. Your boys will have to slow down. We had an all nighter at the end of day two to repair a blown head gasket, but the head must have a woof in it, cos on the line temp shot to 110deg for TS1 - day 3. After three days of short shifting and filling with water before and after each stage we had a small off at the 11k mark on South Riana. We were beached and the officials wouldnt let the local punters push her off... Bugger, game over. I had actually caught the 805 boys all but 100mtrs, and was really relaxed. As soon as I hit the loud pedal, it jumped to understeer and we ran out of black stuff - see party tape. Talking to Jason and he has some N1 test bits like pistons etc the site might want to auction as a fund raiser... We have proved that driving the wheels off a GTSt will brake your heart... 13th at the end of day one was a special moment and reward for a lot of effort by my Bunnings warehouse crew. We are happy with our performance, but next year we will be in a four wheeler (unfortunately from another brand - my chick loves diamonds, Evo Diamonds LOL). I love Nissan as a brand, but could not drive like Jason has to for five days to mnake the oem diff setup work. Will stay in touch, and treasure the friends I have made thru this site always. Good Luck next year guys.... Greg Johnston Bunnings Tarmac Rally Team PS... Ken, Doug and Dave are devistated, but know what it takes to get a plate.... will only be a matter of time.

Yes, Judging from the pic your "R" must be here... Just got some stuff (senders fromUK) - will email you the link cos they do brands other than terra TT

Silverdome after scrutineering is good - Me and the Scally Wags boys (RIP Doug) got 3 parts last year - took me 4 hours to screw a number plate on... crooked! LOL TT

rb20det 270cc Injector Lag Timing
Targa Tom replied to yogi000's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
No, I'm suggesting at 2.55 bar AP engineering rates "260" injectors @ 255 cc/min. The "444" GT-R type are rated 440 cc/min.... therefore 255/440= .579 AP have ratings based on 3 different fuel pressures. The Manufacturer "Rating" is more like a model number - ie (Purple) "550"s only rated 530 cc/min @ 2.55bar Thats where I was coming from. TT -
I'll try not to yell at you this year... LOL Jason was telling me at Basky that the Lambo thing was investigated seriously but won't happen this year. TT
-
I'll be in that... Just keep your eye out for the Bunnings signs TT
-
Not sure mate... a Vee Dub of some kind. I reckon he must be cheatn to get em goin that well. Its the car he ran at Buller and NZ TT

What is a caliper overhaul?
Targa Tom replied to cowie165's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Excessive heat will cause O-rings to bind on pistons. Not changing fluid causes corrosion. Seal Kits are expensive... but not as expensive as Liberace'ing someone! Check WRX Calliper kits if they fit (R32 - MY02) have similar sumitomo callipers. If you are technical, and thorough.. DIY is OK. Need Compressor and some "Brake-Clean" to... Hope this helps. TT -
PowerFC Boost Control Question
Targa Tom replied to Bass Junky's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Can be done, but only relative to the natural spool speed of the fan... ie from off boost to .7bar will not change. Only the duty cycle will change the boost trend, and will only soften the natural ramp speed... you cannot do more than keep the waste gate shut until required boost is reached. Hope this makes sense (Big night in Pattaya Bars makes brain hurt) Good Luck TT -
rb20det 270cc Injector Lag Timing
Targa Tom replied to yogi000's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Normally at your local dyno @ about $100/hr... Other than that is is covered in the preceeding posts. TT -
rb20det 270cc Injector Lag Timing
Targa Tom replied to yogi000's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
They crank up the fuel pressure, and live with it. Go to menu and turn off alarm... The AFR is still safe. That Page is on Apexi site and there are some links scattered though forums... Good Luck TT -
rb20det 270cc Injector Lag Timing
Targa Tom replied to yogi000's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
No not 61% but a factor of 0.579 (58%), and set the lag relevant to your fuel pressure reg (RB20DET std = 2.55bar) Reset your computor via the etc screen to factory PFC default, adjust only the above two for all six injectors and the car should run well enough to get you cross town. However, if you are leaving the 270's in till you get to the workshop - leave on default. You may want to scroll thru and log all your screens before reset for a reference file. Good Luck. TT -
rb20det 270cc Injector Lag Timing
Targa Tom replied to yogi000's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Not yet mate... in Pattaya Thailand working and wont be back in Oz till Early March. What I did do though is buy a bosch sensor, welded a lug on the manifold and got that far. Was trying to do two things at once, ie circuit config and Targa Config. As Targa rules are very restrictive I have halted any playing till after TT05. I do however run a WO2 setup through my datalogit and that has already paid for itself in saved dyno time. Sorry for "offthread" Will keep you posted TT -

Targa Tom replied to yogi000's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yep thats a firm.... And this is using the PFC calc for GTR LI type. Treat as base point only. Remember these modifications should only be carried out by a qualified technician. Press. Timing Lag Flow @ 2.55bar 0.579 -0.15ms (440) @3.05bar 0.577 -0.12ms (485) @3.55bar 0.580 -0.14ms (525) TT -
Brake fluid (yes I searched)
Targa Tom replied to dangerous_daveo's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yes indeed it is the best for track applications, but because of its wet temp rating ie works well when water is absorbed... we change ours often. Some fluids will work almost as well and you can leave in without the threat of corrosion. TT -
DIY or get the shop... doesn't matter. Use "Copper Cote" or similar. The more often you remove your manifold the less you break cos they dont corrode. One reason for them breaking is the slotted holes fill with corrosion and the shere forces weaken the stud. So clean and lube often. Another reason is the way the Nissan exhaust is mounted... on the R32 the hole weight is in part supported by the manifold. Just a tip in case I've glossed over it - centre punch stud before drilling, use pilot drill and dont run off... Good luck to you all TT

Meke sure your ignition and fuel load points at idle are the same, different settings in adjacent cells will cause hunting... But putting it into angel gear at 60ks??? Whats the point? TT

Which brake discs R32 GTSt?
Targa Tom replied to xRHETTx's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
We run 4000 series front and rear... Way to go. I believe dba also cast discs for some leading top end names too so there is nothing wrong with the build. If you have 17" wheels, put on a set of V Spec Brembo's and 5000 series on the front. We run this combo on the circuit and they stay well within temp limits. Good braking TT -
The HKS thingo is best for the non weight saving "i might put it back route... Comes with piggy back thing for HICAS 'puter to stop all the false dash lights Good Luck
