GTR Power FC "experts" wanted!!
Targa Tom replied to GTS4nMore's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Probabley locked by Excel tuner... find a Datalogit owner and they can unlock it for you... It won't cost over $1000. Oh, you say two different PFC's do the same thing? Well thats a different story. Will it accept a change to the ignition or fuel map? TT -
Hi all, the RB family of engines, and Nissan in general seem to interchange many parts... This is great, and makes for up speccing easy. Just a couple of questions. Does the RB25 GB bolt to RB20 - No mods? (I guess the shaft will need something done?) Does an RB25 head bolt to RB20 - No mods? If you were to put an RB25 head on an RB20, and wanted to dig up some different cams, do you use RB20 or 25? Thanks for your help troops... TT

Tyre pressure for track work
Targa Tom replied to Chris32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
We usually start at round 28psi, with a target pressure of 35-38 (air) I have tried them higher but personally I don't like them. Either way, it is a good way to learn. When they are where you reckon its OK, drop a few PSI out and note the difference. The FM901's are a street tyre yes? they will like to be a bit tighter than a "r" type. "Which way does the track go, and whats the lap record?" Graham Crosby Have fun... TT -
Need rolled lips though if running low (330-340mm RH) TT

Wheel Clearance & aftermarket susp
Targa Tom replied to Roy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
....but I will check offset and rim type. We ran 5 laps at Symmons today for a shake down and no worries. We have rolled the lips and have a set of GTR guards to go on, but not needed. I think that 8.5 would be the go all round, but nobody seems to make 'em. we are hunting tomorrow, so will let you know. 265's seem to be over the top... What are you going to run 'em on, an old 20litre drum LOL Cheers -
Wheel Clearance & aftermarket susp
Targa Tom replied to Roy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
One of our cars will probabley run 17 x 9 this weekend. Will be rolling the guards, but not sure on tyre sizing yet. I think you can over tyre them and we tend to stick to the Dunlop tyre/rim size register. Will let you know the outcome. TT -
That clutch wire....
Targa Tom replied to Targa Tom's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Seldom. That makes sense, and seen as though I don't run Hicas, I can use the switch for another job. It makes to ground, and that's exactly what I need.... Thanks again Ciao TT -
They are Low Imp 2.4 ohm. This is OEM GT-R Hope this helps....

Arvo All, My 12/92 GTS-t has a switch on the clutch pedal shaft. Does anyone know what it does or have a wiring diagram for a whole car... All my diagrams do not show this switch. Thanks Guys & Girls TT

Just quickly guys... The waste gate control solenoid on this car... can we use it as a boost control from PFC, or is it just open & shut? And secondly, when running on two wheel dyno, what is the usual procedure? We have the chance to purchase one and are going to run it first, so just wish to check... Thanks in advance. TT

Now when whoever did whatever he did in Japan or NZ, he decided to market the product... I'm not sure what the build cost is, but it is four days in a postbag from your door. It works and there is support from like minded people. It talks thru a serial adaptor so those without com serial ports can use it, and it is less than $US500.00 Datalogit is not the be all to end all, but it is a lot better than any others... in fact I dont know of any others. So Funky, here is a thought. Throw together your $100 dongle, package it with user friendly software. Add margin for labour and profit. Market it as a competitor to Datalogit for either more if yours is better, or cheaper if it is as good.... Then we will all see how stupid we have been to buy Datalogit. But right now all I see is one product in the market that works... $US500 if you want to do your own and others tuning is cheap from where I stand. Eav00l - It is out there, but I'm afraid until Funky's hits the market you'll have to pay the going rate. But it does work, when used with WB02 meter can cut your A/F related dyno time to zip... Hope you find what you're looking for, TT

Front disc run-out on R32 GTST
Targa Tom replied to BuzLightyear's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
We get our brakes hot n cold frequently... no runout. Before TT04 we replaced front bearings. During the event an R33 of Jeff Beable had bearing failure. TT -
Question 1 - aftermarket wastegate actuators
Targa Tom replied to Peter Wilson's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Who makes them? Several AM Mobs Where can I buy one? GCG Turbo's (sell HKS) How much? $275 inc GST How well do they work (spool up, driveability etc)? Spool is relative to you engine turbo exhaust configuration. They just stay shut till the spring is overcome, ie 0.9bar. To give the wastegate seating, some preload is needed, but a 0.9 spring is a 0.9 spring, and once it reaches that pressure it opens (unless of course you have so much preload the spring is bound already) Easy to fit in place of OEM unit... put one on my mates circuit the other week and was into our first stubby in no time.. Good luck TT -
What size tyres and how sticky? We have been Running 205/50/16 in Targa, and will wear a set or two out at Basky next Month... but if I was starting from scratch I would be running 245/45/17. Propbably M1 Dunlops. The old D01J's are good for Rally, but suffer on the circuit. We ran well in excess of -3deg camber with 225's and it was locking the inside fronts... rear still a little loose. Will come back a notch next time to give the front some push. Seems like you have the kW, now you just need some grip... TT

"They have no place on my cars" - Please read "my" "I'll have a look and see if I can find them" (Which I have and he can have them if he wants)" Is taht not trying to save him some readys at the wreckers? We remove the rattle clips as a safety issue... It makes a visual check of our brakes quick and easy... and change if needed can be effected. Now I havent been round Nissans for long... and yes know their R & D is top notch - but I have removed a lot of rattle clips. And they have never caused bent or broken pins. All the calipers we use only ever get knock off if you have a really bad tank slapper (Bikes) or hit somthing extremely hard (car)... anyhow what would I know. "someonestolecc" if you still need them I have a set of front and rears. PM me with delivery details. TT

R34 V-Spec Master Cyl
Targa Tom replied to Targa Tom's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thanks digger -
.... pulp in the same breath. Up there on the North Island I know you get 98RON. But compared with VP and elf... they all come in a drum. Cooler, safer & and more HP. What more do you need. TT

...and done it for you. Long extension and undo three nuts (dump-front pipe) it should sit after dropping a bit if all OEM bkts are there. 10mm 1/4 drive and undo the bolts in the small turbo shield... unplug o2 sensor. 10mm ringy for the sheild bolts down near shock tower. These are brittle and may break (Clean thread and use copper eze when replacing) Undo stubbie... think about it for a while. No dramas really TT PS Did you say you had some spades that fit the ecu plug off a wreck? Need a couple.

Suspension is toooooo firm
Targa Tom replied to HeathGTST's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
... but I'm tipping your problem is more likely all the yellow bits. The take all the compliance out that the boys in the backroom at Nissan built in with the rubber bushes. Now they dont use rubber for its excellent performance and ability to make this go like an F3. They do it to stop all that harshness and to stop your mobile jumping out of the consol. From our recent research the silver bars are too heavy anyhow... well at least with the current configeration we are running. (And thats good enough to get round Basky in a 61) Put it up to standard hight and try that matey. Good luck I think Roy was angling for a run in the race car... sly bugger. LOL -
Well in the last two years we have done Targa Tas... There are one or two occassions when during the 500+ competitive stages we touch the brakes... No massive lock-up. We now run two cars, one kicked off last week at Baskerville last week. He also used the brakes a few times to slow down.... no massive lock-up. In fact I have put about six sets of front pads thru my car in two years without drama. Could you please explain how a small anti-rattle clip is going to cause a massive lock-up. Because I might need to put them back in? TT

I was wondering the master cylinder size on the V-Spec, cos there are some brakes off one available... How does it compare with R32 M/C Now typing this I am thinking ABS, they are going to have a huge MC. Will have to suck it and see if nobody has any answers... TT

We ran one of ours as a BOC locker on the weekend, while we wait for a proper one to arrive from Nippon. Worked a treat... There are only 3 types of viscos LSD, 1. New ones, 2. Ones that don't work, 3. Welded ones. Should be able to score yourself one for round $700 S/H TT

Steering, Alignment, Camber Kits?
Targa Tom replied to geno8r's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Life is too short for all this anger... Cars get smashed all the time. It is only when its yours it seems more important. Ride your bike, walk a bit, sh@g your girl in her mothers car.... there is always some good. The wheel alignment in some skylines is borderline when they leave the factory. Then we drop them on their exhaust... and some times they clout a gutter. Fair chance the biff has taken yours over the edge, and the slight bend in something means it will be very hard to get back without using accentric bushes and the like. Should be fine then... Good luck TT
