  1. I'm staying well away from TYims workshop, picked up some stuff the other day.... they are seriously behind. The red car of other brand... well if I can just get the thing to boost over one bar... I'll polish it. Target to have parked by Sunday week ready to roll TT 984
  2. You got it Ben, will turn on the pop-bang-flame switch so we dont have to shred tyres for the publics grin factor. Reccon the classics will be fast and the moderns slow... TT 984
  3. Is it registered in Qld as normal car or is the log book from Qld. If registered, you have to get hold of - forget their name - but qld version of MAIB and get 3rd party extension to cover the vehicle in Tassy (Suncorp & others do the 3rd Party up there) If no rego, to1-100 should be able to sort it and point you in the right direction TT 984
  4. Would be keen to know if it is going ahead.... heard that interest is low. Nothing to do with the $7k up front and very little infromation I'm sure. So while you are sucking P155 with the snobs up the north coast, poor blokes in Melbourne working till all hours getting the car ready. LOL TT 984
  5. Tyre slip Tim, and the fact you are cutting corners. (well I know you blokes don't - LOL, but not following the LHS of the road) Most use the Cal 2 facility to put in a shorter(less) cal for the race stages. The good navs can punch in calcs on the fly, but as I say some dont use em. We didn't even turn the Terra on at Rally Tas (broken wire in plug LOL). TT
  6. Terra trip for navigator, eye for driver... Most driver call as they see. If Brendan says 200, then it is 200. It may be 150 or 300, doesn't matter. I'll tell you what we do Ben - not the right way, but a way of doing it. We drive the stage at about 70ks (have a peice of tape wrapped round the middle of the wheel and 8 peices on the dash). We drive the white line and I call the distance as I see it and the grade of the turn. We don't check distances at this point. We then insert Chicanes and drive with the navgator calling the notes back... I may say theat 100 is more like 80 etc. We use & and then for 0~50 unless its over a crest or round something blind into a sharp one then we nominate a distance. Into is like for s's and IMMediate is when the car has to change attitude mid corner and doesn't get settled naturally. The distance doent have to be spot on as it is driver perception. As long as you are consistant. 50 between a L2 & L3 looks like 50. 50 between L4½ & L5 becomes an into... so if you wrtite what your old man see's then when you read it back, he will be able to visualise. Start telling him the Terra trip said that was 100 when he sees 50, then he will have to do mental sums OK when he says 50 its about 100. After we are happy with then notes and layout - ie no hectic calls at bottom of page or end of line, then we drive and log the distance for the beginnig of the line. This distance is purely if the Nav needs to insert car off, oil etc at the start line quickly. My old nav used this to double check position on the longer stages. Mike actually does it differently. Hope this helps TT
  7. I don't know of the 5k Bass Highway one. If you are talking about the big signs on the bypass, then they are main roads ones. Need to use the event callibration, because that is what the road books are written off. There are two; One Northbound on the East Tamar highway. Just before the AMC turn off big green sign, there are two yellow triangles painted on the road. It finishes just before the bridge at the northern end of dilston. The return direction starts on the northern side of the dilston bridge and goes to just beyond the AMC turn off (south bound). The Second is meander (old bass) hwy west(or East) bound. The house with the big pine hedge just past the entally turn off (two houses on left it is about half way between) but only marked on the eastbound lane. It finishes at 1810 meander(old bass) highway - someones driveway before the Hagley roundabout. If you are callibrating to distance you should be looking for short or long, not fast slow. Don't be too concerned about the Chicanes. They are big orange and white things with three big boards as you approach. If they are 100 meters either way - no big deal. The event cal might be longer or shorter tahn main roads (dunno - never checked it) but is is the same cal all the roadbooks are written off... TT
  8. Bike helmets are differnent to car helmets? Aside from some of the open wheeler helmets with small eye slots (to stop other cars poking your eyes out) can someone explain. My Nav wears a Stilo and finds it heavy - would go peltor if to buy again. I have been wearing a Shoei Jet 101. glass open face and cost about $350. Will maybe test full face for this year. We wont be using HANS, because we would have to put the HANS bars in our roll cage - not this year. Back a few years we had a deal with Nolan. They were sponsoring Alex Criville with an X-Lite. to E22 it was 1100 and something grams - trick, comfy, and lite. When Ron Angel got them tested for AS 1698(?), they required extra wire in the bucket which made them up near Arai, Shoei AGV etc. I think you will find unless you import an fia approved european standard helmet, most of the AS helmets are similar in weight. TT
  9. Have they changed them Ben? All the events we have done so far you have entered on the right ie wrong side of the road - doing a L-R-L turn. Ben M. The old counters for Chicane were III II I C. Some of this years are C3 C2 C1 C. Another thing, if you are running the Targa callibration in your Terratrip, then note things as per your terra-trip. dont forget that the wheel sensors are not the most acurate things (wheel spin etc). and there may be some creep on the longer stages. If not sure, there are 2x 10k markers. One bass hwy, the other East Tamar. TT
  10. You using the recce notes Ben, it has the chicane distance from start in there. You only have to show brendan where the odometer is and zero it at the TS. Here is Holwell for eg HOLWELL TARGA STAGE Base Time: 3min 30Sec Start Line on Holwell Road 160m North of the Frankford Highway 0.0 SO 0.5 RGR on Crest 1.9 Crest then RGR 2.5 Chicane RADIO POINT 3.0 Chicane RADIO POINT 3.8 CARE! RGR then Tight Left 5.2 CAUTION!! Crest then RGR 5.8 RGR on Crest 6.0 Deep Gutter on Right 6.5 Crest then RGL and Tightens 7.70 Finish Line (Yellow TF) 8.0 Stop Point (White SP) 8.2 Time Control (White TC) TT
  11. Paint is only as good as the undercoat Ben. As novices when we did our notes first time, took many runs to get right. The big thing is consistancy. Start to rush and if you write a 4 as a 5, and it is after many calls that are right - trouble. Good notes will make you faster, safer and less hard on gear. TT
  12. Gotta look after 832... got three sets of plates in my office. If I can manage 3 with 984 will be happy. TT
  13. You are setting yourelf up for a huge p155 take Ben. And yes thanks, we do use the 1 - 6. (An Irish guy wanted to come over and navigate for me. He said they use 6-1 and It wouldn't take me long to get used to it. FOrget his name, w@nker...) Well Duncan don't panic... We(I, cos I do all the 'ken work) have just put a "Targa"exhaust on - Now you can buy 'em for 1200, but I made ours. Three Beers. Then hooked in WBO2 anyliser and callibrate. Three beers. Fit new tow hook on the front cos now they dont like webbing under the lip. (four mor beers). Now have to wire WBO2 to logger.... geez I'm thirsty. Have to Service SHox, fit earthing kit, fit ECU, Symmons for installation test. Dyno for highload tune, Baskey for shakedown. Sound familliar Duncan. TT
  14. They are trying to make it for the teams an coffee set I reckon... I have been looking at it and if we have a good run in Targa would consider it. But 7k, bl00dy expensive eh Ben. I mean and if they are basing it in Noosa accom will be expensive too. I will have to stay in Roma or injune which will mean a lot of travel... LOL TT
  15. Duck over to my downloads page Click Here and download the Devonport to longford file.... It has a bit of road book and our notes from a couple of years ago. We have evolved since then, but will give you an idea. There might be some other stuff there that interests you too. Don't forget to remind Brendan he has to pass on the right in Targa - LOL TT
  16. Used SBS DC from after trying EBC for two years in the R32. Used Dual Carbon ones, same calipers, same disc, similar weight... Tried DS3000/2500 in Evo, ran sbs at Rally Tas - horn Holywood will love 'em. TT
  17. Given we tore the whole road up in Savage, it wa fairly insignificant. Seed 22, we ran before all the so called corner cutters and there was plenty of gravel. Once it is all over the corner and you are commited, the only safe way through is to cut the corner... that or underteer off. We will be under the microscope in Targa, so it will be interesting. It will be hard to police without bollards, how do they know you cut the corner or were just out of control. We are busy doing exhaust and tuning for the next couple of weeks which will be good. 160wkw just don't cut it on the hills... 4WD or not. Ciao
  18. Carnage... my fur coat! R32 on roof in the middle of Hellyer ('bout half way up the hill). VW's x 3, Leased Ralliart Evo, couple of STI's & the bald guys in whte VI - needed gps to find it when in site of finish line. We tested all weekend, went backards a couple of times, but for what we wanted -good result. Uncle Johns must have got a bad batch of snakes... The bar has been raised as we all knew it would. Now top ten an exclusive club. TT
  19. Spun the hub caps off her M8.... Looked smooth and clean today. Hope Brendan is OK, never nice to have an issue with another car. Both victims of huge speed difference I think, which is always an issue at those types of events Was he doing an OLT? Did he get it OK? If they are the ones with a "S" symbol I think I have one - will check and drop it into your oldman at work if it's up the shed. Ciao TT
  20. DMS 50mm Shocks and additional Springs to Suit R32 GTSt. Setup to suit Tarmac Rally, Street, and Circuit. incl Top Plates. $3,800.00 the lot ONO Last Nissan parts in the shed and would like to sell... No reasonable offer refused. TT
  21. I wasn't for a minute suggesting you go out and get another car... Just that not always the car you like or have will come off best from the rules. Don't beat yourself up for living the dream... I stood on the side of the road in 92 and watched Chas roar past in the F40, and thought - I gotta do that one day! 10 years later (2002) standing on the side of the road with the oldman watching the cars head to Longford... "I think I'll do this event one day." "Don't spend too 'ken long thinking about it" was his reply. We started in 03. We went from RX7 Classic to L34 to XU-1 to R31 to HCR32 before we settled on a weapon. M8, the most fun you and your mates will have - service crew has a ball too, and just hope the bug doesn't bite too hard - we are fronting up for our 4th year. If you need any help, PM me Oh, yeah... dont become as my Late M8 Doug called em - a Posche Tosser TT
  22. EVO mag, 200SX = 6.5seconds... Before I did Targa the first time, I got the most useful bit of information from a guy I propped up the bar with on the spirit prior to the 2002 event. Things have changed a bit, but much remains the same. His advise was "Read the rules mate... then read 'em again & again." "When you think you understand them, chose a car that takes advantage of the rules" Don't turn up with your favourite car, because it may be disadvantaged by the regs. We chose our first car accordingly and it now comes off even better when the rules are applied. So I now call this my advise, because the guy drove a P76, and next time I spoke to him in 2003 he blew me off... probabley because I had just sucked his doors off when overtaking him LOL. There you go, its all in the way you present your car TT
  23. 200SX = M2.
  24. Been up a little while, they normally advise entrants via email... would have thought your old man would be on the mailing list? TT
