Living With An R33 Gtst
shubby0901 replied to shubby0901's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
So as a quick thing, I installed new rotors and pads to the car. They are RDA slotted and dimpled rotors and Bendix GCT pads. Pretty good, not much noticeable difference when driving. You can hear the slots passing over the pads though as you drive. Currently chasing a steering wobble issue......not sure what the issue is, going to book the car in for an inspection soon. Basically, the steering wobbles alot at high speed, it isnt balancing/allignment/warped rotors. It gets noticably worse when braking though... -

Not much happened on the car. Job and time issues have limited time/funding for the car. Hopefully something happens soon.... -

Did a 1500km road trip over the last weekend. Car performed flawlessly. The only thing is there was steering vibration which got quite bad while braking. Warped rotors I believe. Will be ordering new rotors/pads next week. -

Cheers for all the replies. The Nistune seems like it does everything well. I am quite interested in the Launch Control because....reasons.... Also its way cheaper than anything else. No plans for fuel flex atm, maybe in the future. I've had a chat with the guys from Garage7 a while ago, they recommended a R32 ECU. Will talk properly again closer to when I start to find/install parts. I am curious how the R34 Side mount performs when tuned. My plan for engine is as follows: 1) Exhaust dump/cat replacement to match catback 2a) Injectors (Not sure of size, I know you can get various Nismo ones) 2b) Nistune 2c) Highflow turbo Other stuff on car needs to be changed/upgraded as well. One day, it will be finished, I have faith. -

Yep, I have a strong feeling my turbo was not liking the extra boost either. Will be looking at highflow + nistune. Need to find costs/time it takes etc. Anyone on here using a stock R33 Turbo thats been highflowed with a nistune? Whats your experience with it like? -

So I installed the stock R33 Wastegate actuator and car runs fine all gears all the way upto redline. Therefore, plugs/coils were not cause of misfiring feeling so I have a feeling car was going into R&R mode. Boost is lower than before which is not great but the car is working so no complaints. Will look at what to do to make more power in a few months. -

Well...I wasnt actually on the track. We just went to watch, cars not yet ready for track work. I do still have the old actuator. I was planning on chucking it on and seeing what happens today. Under boost, it sounds normal then suddenly gets really loud like there is heaps of air escaping from somewhere, almost like a boost leak but not sure where it is. -

Yeah this is what I thought too. I am going to setup a temporary boost gauge to properly monitor it but I have a feeling there are a few issues, firstly maybe my turbo is on its last legs as it makes a very weird sound when under boost, secondly, I think the ECU is going into R&R mode at max boost. I dont have an OBD port, I believe it is a nissan consult port? Was misfiring before, changed plugs because it was doing it and is still misfiring. In other news, Me and a mate went to Matsuri 10/10 in Adelaide and while driving there at 110kmph, my right side fender liner decided it didnt want to be a part of the car anymore and ended almost completely dislodging (held by 1 plastic clip). A part of it was held on by a screw installed by someone at some point which decided its new home would be in my tyre. Luckily, I was able to get the puncture repaired at the race track by the guys who were changing tires for the drifters. On the way back, my left side fender liner decided it felt alone without the left side and to leave the car but wasnt able to due to 1 plastic clip, again at 110kmph. I ended up ripping it off on the way home. Now need to fix another issue with this car that is starting to get on my nerves... Remains of liners: Screw in tyre: -

Well I'm using the stock gauge which says its somewhere around the 650 mmHg mark so thats like 12.5-13PSI. Genuine Nissan OEM coilpacks were installed 1 year ago, brand new NGK copper plugs installed and gapped to 0.8mm. -

Having a weird problem with the car which seems like its misfiring under max boost (13PSI). I have new coilpacks and new plugs and it is still doing it. Need to figure out what the issue is. -

Who still daily's their Skyline?
shubby0901 replied to colourclassic's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I have a R33 GTST and I daily mine, do around 350km/week. Goes everywhere like uni, work, shopping, beach, roadtrips. Bought a Series2 because I wanted Airbags and ABS for a daily. It gets parked in a gated driveway at night but that's pretty much it for secure parking. Haven't had any issues over the last 3ish years apart from a couple of rear endings. Theft is always a concern but hey that's what insurance is for. -
Hey, you have a similar plan as mine. Have a look at my thread, I have installed a R32 wastegate actuator for increased boost, a varex exhaust. and a couple of other things. Very happy with it at the moment

I am currently working on some custom LED tail lights, just waiting for parts so keen on them to see what its like all finished. Also, not a skyline but another car video we made. Have a look if you are interested. Feedback always welcome. -
The hardest thing is finding places to still film, I'm not creative enough to make not so interesting places look interesting...

No worries, it was fun making it. Im itching to go and film somewhere else..just need to find the time! I have the Phantom 3 Standard and its pictures are pretty average, much better for video work

Over this weekend I did a couple of things. Firstly, I installed a R34 side mount intercooler. It was a relatively easy install once you get the pipes off the cooler itself. Tiny bit of cutting of a tab on the bar which is not used for anything. Secondly, I properly installed the brackets and bolted the stock lip onto the car instead of the tape which was holding it up before. There are now 4 wing nuts holding the lip along with screws on the bottom and double sided tape on other parts. -
Finally got mine working. My contacts were fine, the issue in my case was the worm gear mounted onto the motor shaft for left hand mirror had broken and therefore the shaft was turning without turning the gear itself. I ended up pulling the whole gear system apart, down to the final spring and roller ball bearings underneath the spring and re-lubricating everything, using Araldite to stick the gear onto the shaft and upon re-installation, all is working!

So over the weekend, I worked on getting both the mirrors to fold in automagically. Got it finally working, both mirrors are working!
