As mentioned there's no need for an aftermarket fuel reg unless you're running out of duty cycle with the existing injectors. Upping the fuel pressure a bit can make the difference for a marginal setup but always best to go bigger injectors and retune. A fuel reg will make no difference if the fuel pump isn't up to the task. Another reason an aftermarket fuel reg is handy is use a twin-outlet regulator to split the fuel supply into a pairs of 3 cylinder supply lines. Sometimes the last injector in the series can get an inadequate supply of fuel. Getting back to topic Malpassi regs are probably best to avoid if you're pushing fairly critical A/F ratios for max power. They vary pressure a bit depending on temp or whatever, I just know a few people that suffered from inconsistent fuel pressure and A/F ratios and the problem was solved with a Sard or SX fuel reg. ...Ben

Howdy Fatz, I think it's somewhere between the standard turbo off a Suzuki Cappuccino and the Diahatsu Copen. If you've got a map for them then you'll have a pretty good idea. LOL

You've gotta give Fitzy big marks for mastering the art of controlling a pendulum while driving bloody fast! He is welcome to instruct me anytime-not only on technique but mainly on attitude. BUT.....can someone tell me which Luff it was that was on that stoopid show that was based around the Eastern Creek skid pan/figure 8/dirt figure 8 in that show last year? It didn't really seem like a good idea to rip up the handbrake while his 'student' was negotiating an "emergency brake while turning scenario"? Gee I can't understand why the car spun. I can understand that most drivers think they are Richo (and are definitely not) and making the public question their driving prowess is a good idea, but making someone spin when the car isn't strictly under their control (like someone else yanking on the handbrake) doesn't really achieve the aim. I'd probably be thinking, "if that muppet hadn't ripped on the handbrake I'd have made that turn/stop." ...Ben

Low rpm and off boost all flow goes through turbine. High rpm and on boost most flow goes through the wastegate. An open-mouthed collector has the full exhaust cross-section available for both situations while a twin-dump at high boost will require the high wastegate flow to flow through a small diameter pipe. Twin dumps work fine as long as there is room to put a nice big pipe off the wastegate. If the space is restricted then a nice open-mouthed collector works pretty well. -

If you're talking about a twin-pipe design then that's definitely not what I'm talking about. I'm a big believer in the open-mouth collector style of dump pipe. -

Fkn awesome Pete. Can't wait to go for a spin, especially after the full plan is in effect. Hey which way does the wategate flapper open? If it opens towards the turbine outlet a small splitter between the wastegate and turbine outlet might help reduce turbulence in and get the whole shebang spooling up a little earlier. Seems to work well on other open-mouth-style dump pipe IMHO. If you're going to go for a Haltech give me a yell. I know one of the guys there who might be able to look after you. Once again. Awesome. It's making me question my choice of car. ...Ben -
No way I could be there mate. I had a MASSIVE night at the work Christmas party in Parkes. Fatz you'd be proud of me. I blew a 0.132 at 10 am the next morning. I nearly melted the breathalyzer. I couldn't drive home until 2 pm that day. ...Ben

HAH! You ought to talk about rebuilds big fella. "Hello Kettle.....it's Pot here......You're black" ...Ben

I think reading post #50 just lowered my IQ. What a waste of electricity. On the other hand I appreciate the point you make Bonkers. Parents have a responsibility to set a good example and show that high performance cars are safe when driven with the right attitude. Peer pressure is probably a greater influence to younger drivers and I think we can all have a positive effect on those around us. ...Ben

R32 GT-R Wheels and Tyres.
Gonad Man replied to lwells's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yup the larger size would definitely account for the higher price but I'm surprised by how much higher it is. The 205 is the standard size for WRXs (I know, I know...booooo hissss) so they probably sell bulk in that size as well. I'd seriously consider going for the RT215s (formerly Real Sports) as that way you won't have a totally redundant set of whells when your 18s arrive. Street tyres are pretty ordinary on the track and track tyres are not too wonderful on the street so why not spend a (fair) bit more and get a set for both situations? I'd imagine most regular track goers on here would have a second set of track rims/tyres. Just a thought anyway and I hope you get on the road soon. Cheers, Ben -

Geez Falkens have gone up in price. I paid $150 per corner for a set of FK451s at Tempe about a year ago. Then again they were 205/50/16s. Maybe ring Tempe and tell them you've been quoted a lower price at Ozzy Tyres and see if they'll match or beat this price. It's worked for me in the past. Good idea not to go wider than the recommended width for the rim. Getting a wider tyre will not increase the size of the contact patch (and the level of grip), just the shape. ...Ben -
BTW Fatz I think you've got to face the fact that you've reached your ideal weight and Dr Phil says you're beautiful. Why fight it? Just get your ass back onto the At-Cans diet like before. Who needs enemies with mates like me?

Guys I can tell you that the "more beer" thing really doesn't work. I base this on about 8-9 months research drinking copious amounts of beer during the week and eating pretty much nothing. I've only gotten fatter-hey Fatz, Chris, Mark, Bonkers? I do love the song though B-Man. Remember that sloth guy in the movie Se7en? That's me!They had to tart me up with some makeup to make me more alluring though. BTW Nath you'd better keep Pete off your PC otherwise everyone will start thinking you're a fat gunt too. ...Ben BTW Maj I think I followed you for a while heading towards Sydney a couple of months ago on a Monday or Tuesday morning. I flashed you then turned off at Bull's Camp Reserve.

Fair comment Lucien, but have you seen the price of Rays and Enkei wheels? I just reckon there's more effective ways to spend a few thousand dollars if you're on a budget. Here's me struggling to front the cash for a 3" exhaust so I guess a set of nice rims are pretty low on my list, especially considering I've already got some reasonably nice ones on the car as it is, just like Mark's new car. I've gotta say though, Rays rims are gorgeous. And nice and light. And plenty tough too. ...Ben

BTW that's a beautiful KGC110 in the foreground of one of those piccies. Shame about the ugly prick that owns it! Cheers, Ben

G'day Mark. I checked out the car last week.....very noice indeed. Schweeeeet! I got a little excited actually and there's a bit of a clean-up job to do on the right-front guard. I reckon forget about the rims-if you're on a budget like me then you'll spend every cent on things that make the car go faster (and beer of course). Bigger rims will do bugger all for performance (often worse) and tyres will be harder to find and more expensive. Besides, I reckon the rims that are on it look great! Cheers, Ben PS: Great day on Saturday!

Every time I've gone to Oran Park to have a look at a supersprint I've been charged $5 at the gate. It's a bit of a bugger when you consider that Eastern Creek is free. You guys aren't getting any special treatment if that's what you are all worried about. They're opportunistic ar5eholes to everyone! Cheers, Ben

Sonic I like the way you think mate. Wollombi-Peats Ridge would've been great fun except: 1. My wife was in the car as well. 2. We came across a motorcycle rider who'd met his maker. As far as cruises go I really wouldn't know-I'm more interested in "runs". I don't mind the Nasho but I think Macquarie Pass is the king as long as you can avoid people towing caravans. The run down to Garie Beach is fun though-just ask Fatz! I've done some absolute crackers away from Sydney. The run from Casino to Tenterfield seemed like about 60 km of 25-45km/h corners. No traffic AT ALL and an absolute blast. Don't break down though 'cos you'll be stuck in the middle of Deliverance. Be very worried if some guy asks you who his daddy is! The run from Lithgow-Sodwalls-Tarana-O'Connell is great fun but if you feel like stepping it up a notch the dirt road from Perthville to Dunkeld via Evans Plains is an absolute cracker. Hen & Chicken Lane is a part of this and it forms part of the NSW state rally series if I'm not mistaken. Great fun. Cheers, Ben BTW The 'gong is surrounded by the highest concentration of great driver's roads IMHO. Living in the 'gong is a treat! Pissed off I had to move.

Dude, Did you whup an XR6?? I'd be interested in the specs......might have more to do with the factory though.

Congratulations Dan and Jody. Well done guys. If you manage not to kill each other while trying to plan the wedding then you've truly found your other half. Shame I missed you both on Friday evening. I did have a celebratory beer for you both though. ...Ben

Guys, Make sure that your extinguisher has the sticker that mentions the AS--- certification. Not sure exactly which AS but to enter a CAMS-sanctioned speed type event you need this sticker. If you're doing supersprints then you need to have a date stamp on your extinguisher as well. Scrutineers can knock you back for having an out-of-date extinguisher or one with no date at all. Cheers, Ben

It definitely wasn't overfuelling Franks. As soon as it came on boost there was a thick plume of blue smoke that hung in the air for a couple of minutes. It idled like a car that had a stuffed MAF sensor but revved cleanly. I rang Rigolis and Tony was certain it needed a rebuild. I was hoping it was a stuffed turbo seal or something but based on what I told Tony he was 95% certain it needed a rebuild. I was surprised that it ran OK with a stuffed piston. Funniest thing was when the owner and his mate told me the smoke was because it needed a service. :bs!: 23 psi is big boost for a stock 03STi. These run a VF30 turbo which becomes inefficient on a 2l engine at about 20psi. This is just what I've heard but for some reason most big tuners like CRD, MRT etc don't push them past 19psi. The fuel system needs upgrading too-it's barely adequate. Cheers, Ben
-
I'm with you Franks. I'm not saying it's impossible. I test drove a MY99 that had a 2-stage boost controller. I flicked the switch and it went to 24psi. Went pretty good too but the massive amount of smoke that came out the back when on boost made me decide to keep looking. Rough idle was a pretty good sign that a ring land had been smashed. I remember reading about the APS GC8-it was a white 98 or 99 wasn't it? From memory it was tuned to run about 17psi but spiked to 22 under certain conditions (uphill in higher gears). It had a Unichip piggyback engine management which are notoriously difficult to tune to hold consistent boost on a WRX. I think they eventually sorted it out to stop the spikes though. I reckon the TD05 is a great BFYB mod. They'll comfortably push pretty big boost safely and it looks like you got some great results with it Franks. I was going to get one but a VF29 came up pretty bloody cheap so I went for that. Cheers, Ben

Hmmmmm.....the boost cut should pull up stumps at about 17-18psi. My car's stock except for a 3" turbo-back and the most I've ever seen is 1.1 bar (about 16psi). Then again different dump pipe designs can cause higher spikes. Does your brother's car have a dual dump on it. These can cause bigger spikes than open-mouthed dumps. I guess old matey might have been running 22psi but he wouldn't be going any quicker than if he was running 16psi and he's stuffing his engine to boot. Cheers, Ben
