  1. Nice looking wheels.. but DROP it more?! It's already way too low I would think. The ride must be terrible. Cheers - N
  2. Try multiple cards, try older and smaller cards. There are some limits around the number of files ina folder, but for testing just stick a dozen or so simple MP3s (128-320kbps) in the root directory with nothing else on the card. The CF input won't show up unless it can successfully read the card and the files on it. For me It was the 3rd CF card I tried that worked (on my 2006 250GT) and on my newer 2009 V36 Crossover (J50) the CF card is gone in favour of a USB port... I also needed to try 3 different USB sticks before one worked. FAT32 is the safest format as well. Cheers -N
  3. No. The 'tyre' in the speedo display was probably a service or tyre rotation reminder. (Like for oil change etc) Cheers - N
  4. Works on my 2009 J50 Skyline Crossover Type P. (V36 in almost all areas). The individual keys can be programmed to set the driver seat, steering wheel and electric mirrors. Cheers - N
  5. Unfortunately for most of us, those people that know how to do the software upgrade are keeping it well and truly secret. If you're not lucky enough to live close enough to one of the select few people that know the secret (and are making the service available for the thick end of $1000-$1500) there seems to be no option to get the conversion done. Sad but true at this stage. Cheers - N
  6. Yeah - the auction links expire... He still has the car for sale and now has performed the conversion on the car and has included screenshots of the english language system, including a shot of part of the Nav! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/nissan/auction-919852429.htm This is the user link http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?member=1498627 (username Gloria32)
  7. I have one, and even plugged it in, but the Video cuts out the moment the car starts moving. I had a quick look for how to get around it, but it looked hard. (2009 J50 Crossover - same as a 2010 V36) Cheers - N
  8. Sounds very much like this is a well understood process now, but that it requires some special tools (I presume a consult 3+ or similar) and a unicorn horn image/DVD... Do you gents know of anyone in NZ doing the same thing apart from the one guy in Auckland that wanted $1000NZD to convert a J50 Crossover (2010 V36 equivalent with USB not CF card). I presume he's using the Aussie image since he said the NAV didn't work for NZ. Cheers - N
  9. You're not kidding. I did get one direct from Japan (to NZ) and it was probably 25% more than an equivalent sedan. That said, I love it to bits. Especially the around view monitor and radar cruise control. Cheers -N
  10. There's apparently a guy in Akl that can do this as well, but it didn't att NZ maps, and the price was about 50% more than your suggestion there. I am in Christchurch so would be very happy if there was someone down here that could do it for ~$700NZD (including nav) Cheers - N
  11. So, I was quoted $1600NZD+gst to change my Skyline crossover (370GT) system across to english, with everything working (except TV - of course) and NZ maps. This is from a guy in Auckland that seems to know what he is speaking about but I'm unclear if it's a hardware and software swap, or if it's just a software hack. If it's a true new unit (and they don't want the old unit as part exchange in that cost) then I'd consider it... If it's just software then I think it's a bit rich. (I would BTW pay probably up to $750, maybe a grand, if it was purely a software update). I'll think about it for a few days first. $1600 is a lot of money that I could have a lot of fun with elsewhere :-) Cheers - N
  12. If anyone is in Auckland, please give this guy a call... He's the one I spoke to and who claimed there was a SW only update to make the system work in English although he said there was no working Nav yet. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=893032283 Cheers - N
  13. There wasn't a single unique factor about the stick that worked. Others about the same age and capacity didn't work, and the one that worked was FAT32 (I tried all 4 with FAT32 so clearly not a filesystem issue) In any case, I have one that works - I'm happy for now. Cheers - N
  14. I found an un-named person selling a 370GT in Auckland who said they are able to convert the built in Japanese system to English for $500. I rang and asked if it was able to be offered for existing vehicles and he said yes. I asked a few more questions to see if they knew the complexities... - Can you supply a DVD/CD for the upgrade or do you need the car? "We need the car, it involves using a laptop connected to the diagnostic port" - What about maps? "Currently we don't have a solution for the maps" - Do you have to replace any hardware or just a software upgrade? "It's just a software upgrade" If I was in Auckland I'd be driving over there right now to watch them do the upgrade on their 370GT and then pay them to do mine. Anyone in Auckland interested in following this up? (I'm in Chch) [Edit: Voice of person was clearly Russian and they are selling several cars on Trademe". I also forgot to ask if they have done any conversions on this exact model before and if so - making a video of the converted unit might get them some business!] Cheers - N
  15. Ahhhh. I had a look at NissanDataScan a while ago but it appears that NDS3 is very recent. I'll give that a go. I think between the BT OBD2 things I have one of them is likely to be supported. Thanks heaps for the reminder. I promise to report back if I have success (or otherwise) (Still keen for a specific recommendation of hardware - The Garmin datapoint is useful - I'm at work and will look tonight as to whether it's a generic device compatible with non Garmin apps) Cheers - N
  16. HI guys - I recently got a Skyline crossover - variously known as a Skyline Crossover, 370GT or Infiniti EX37. Anyway, mine is a J50 (RWD) Japan 2009 model. I have a couple of cheap OBD2 readers and while they plug in, they can't speak to the car, even with some of the Nissan specific android apps which claim to send a Japan Nissan init string to get some data. I'd love it if anyone was able to supply details of what SPECIFIC hardware and software combos they have used to get codes out of their 2009(ish) Japan sourced 370GTs. I'm hoping not to spend hundreds of dollars on a consult 4 (and I can't decipher what version of Consult I might need for mine). Given the price of a service locally (which comprises an engine oil change, oil filter change, inspection of other fluids and brakes, and a code read), I'm keen to get myself a method to read the computer as I'm comfortable with doing the rest of the mechanical work myself. Links to exact items would be hugely appreciated! Cheers - Neil G
  17. And update. The 4th USB stick I tried works! Bonus, it's the oldest, least useful (for anything else), and physically smallest stick I have! Cheers - N
  18. Nope. Don't have one, don't have an iPhone either. I am currently rounding up all my USB drives and trying them. A search earlier tonight showed that this is a common issue with the inifinti G series of about the same year... Lots of USB sticks just don't work. Cheers - N
  19. Hi there - I just got a 2009 J50 Skyline Crossover today and LOVE it so far... One difference from the 2006 V36 250GT sedan I had is that the stereo/entertainment system is 3 years newer and the BT streaming works (WELL!) and it does NOT have a CF card slot for music. The translated documents I have found all refer to the older units with the CF slot, but I assumed the new models with the USB port in the center console would also function as a store for music... I put some mp3 files on a FAT32 formatted 4GB stick and plugged it in and got a message that translates to "Check USB or IPOD"... and I'm unable to select USB as an input to play from. I don't really want to muck around with the Music Box (which does work)... I'd like to be able to have a USB key and change songs on it easily when I want... Does anyone know if there's a trick to getting the slightly later model units to play music through the USB port? Or an updated version of the translated docs (which are helpful but there are now many options which aren't covered - and Google translate is getting me only so far) No photos yet as I got the car as an ungroomed import... Cheers -N
  20. A friend of mine is after a car but his wife is understandably putting passenger and baby seat safety ratings at the top of the list. I can't find anythign relevant except a video crash test on youtube for side impact which doesn't say much. I have physically been able to find the isofix baby seat conenctors which is a good start, but does this car appear anywhere in a ratings system like EuroNCAP etc? Cheers - Neil G ps. My Skyline Crossover arrived today - about to pick it up :-)
  21. HI there, with my previous Subarus I used Stu Webbber (Stubaru - use to be Possums mechanic) for my servicing needs. He absolutely knew his stuff and always gave a fair price, good service and reasonable recommendations. Now I have a 2009 Skyline Crossover arriving in a few days and while I'm happy doing some of the basic servicing myself (Oil, Oil filter, air filter, brake pads etc) I'd like to pay someone with a lot of Nissan experience to do the first NZ service so they can get a feel for anything else that might need attention. So, who in Christchurch would you guys recommend for an initial service on a 2009 370GT with 51k on the clock? Any specific issues on the car I should be looking for? Cheers - N
  22. It seems that the time is set from GPS and the offset in the settings to adjust "timezone" only allows for an offset of plus or minus 59 minutes! Is this a crazy .jp centric setting or has someone figured out how to do this? (I'm talking about a JDM model imported to NZ of course!) Cheers - N ps. Yes I know I can set the analogue clock easily
  23. I got a V36 250GT recently and didn't notice before I bought it that the trim beside the aircon on each side was proud. When I first noticed it I assumed it would be easy to pop back into place so wasn't worried however this weekend I had a closer look and found the problem. The plastic outer skin and foam (about quarter inch) has come away from the ABS plastic of the panel and won't just clip back into place. Looks like the only fix is going to be to remove the panels and glue the two parts of the trim back together properly. Now if I could get the panels out of the car that would probably be pretty simple but I got a few panels in and still saw no end in sight (I had the shift boot off, the stereo / aircon controls off, the surround for the shifter off before I gave up)... Here's a photo of the bits of trim... Can anyone help with pointers on just how much disassembly I would have to do to get these out cleanly please? Cheers - Neil G - Chch, NZ.
  24. Thanks for the confirmation people... By way of followup I asked the dealer I bought the car form (politely) how to use the remote starter as a key (before I read the replies here) and he said he'd look into and call me back. He did call me back the next day, apologised for putting me wrong initially and said he'd booked me in with a local Nissan dealer to get a new smartkey supplied and coded at his cost. Very impressed. Absolutely no BS from the seller at all. Still liking the car but it's only a temporary one until I find the perfect Skyline Crossover (370GT)... There's not enough of them around and almost none have the technology pack (Cruise, LDW/LDP, IBA, Around view monitor etc) Cheers - N
  25. I just bought a 2006 V36 250GT here in Christchurch, NZ. It's actually a temporary car while I wait for an ideal Skyline Crossover (370GT) with allt he right specs to become available. After only a couple of days however, I really like the 250GT. it's comfortable, quiet, looks great and decent on fuel. I asked the dealer to make sure that it had two smartkeys, and he said it had one plus a remote starter. In an email confirming the sale I asked the following. "Confirmation that remote starter works as second smart key (as a backup in case key is lost)" And he replied "Ricky is working on the spare key and it is work" (Sic) When I picked up the car, he demonstrated the remote starter (pictured below), starting the car, but it was on the same keyring as the genuine Smartkey. Only when I got home and took the remote starter off thte keyring to put in a safe did I test it while out of range of the smartkey, and sure enough, it didn't work. When I got in the car and tried to start it (with the pushbutton) the dash displayed the "no key" notification. I've found that Nissan can supply a genuine additional Smartkey for $450 which all things considered, isn't too bad - however a couple of questions for the experts here... Should the remote starter be able to function as a key for the vehicle all on it's own? With the right consult cable and a smartkey from Ebay, should I be able to program the car to accept the new key myself? (I have the small metal tag with a 5 digit PIN on it "0xxxx"). I have read the long threads on here but I'm afraid I didn't see a clear conclusion apart from it was easier to find a dealer that knew what to do. Cheers - Neil G
