  10. Sydney Kid and ALL. If I want to lose the Variable cam timing, what do I have to do to the head? weld it over?????? Also I think my budget has been left by the side of the road. I think I'll be using a microtech instead of the motec. I know motec is awesome but it costs a fortune. And I know that a lot of people will say that if you can't do it 'right', than don't do it at all. But, I still want it tough, but on a budget. So I have to prioritise. I've got a friend who is custom making the exhaust manifold. What size pipe do you guys recommend. This has been a controversial sort of question. remember t78 33d on 3L twin cam. I want to get the bigger cams. More questions, but I'll leave it at this for now. Cheers guys. I
  11. Steve - Hopefully I won't have to learn any lessons the hard way....anymore. Budget is stretched already. In the head, either side of the valves there are two large lips and someone put it to me to grind them out to make it semi-spherical. Sorry for the bad explanation. Any ideas?

  13. Just a quick msg. If it isn't really worth while having the variable timing, should i worry about adapting the rb30 block to suit it. Can you leave it out?
  14. Ok this is the deal. I want to make at least 500HP at the wheels. The car came over with an hks 30/37 on an adapter on the standard manifold. 650cc injectors, greddy plenum, greddy external gate. hks mild cams (not sure exactly on specs but they don't look, nor did it sound, very beefy). sold the hks turbo as I had the t78 33d there. Going for the 3L bottom end, and I am basically a little stuck on what angle to take on things. So much different advice. You guys are helping heaps. So the recommendations are so far: Arias pistons with different rings (as mentioned earlier). Still not sure on rods etc. I might try and chase up some GTR bits (rods and crank). What about this cryogenic freezing deal to strengthen the RB30 rods and crank etc? If you guys can help me out with the info, I'll keep you updated at each step. Cheers for all the advice and discussion so far. I'm learning heaps.
  15. This was all very interesting. Starting to stray too much though guys. I really want to hear more from Sydney Kid and Warpspeed, but if you could keep explaining your ideas peewee as I am interested in those too. I'm not a mechanic or even close, but what I understand and I think everyone here will agree, is that there are a lot of different ways to approach these and all engines. Peewee, people come here to research and a lot of us don't really have time to do the little assignments, even though they may be good. If you could just explain stuff it would be great. I am currently in the process of fitting an rb25 head to a 3.0 L bottom end and and will be running a Trust T78. I have been told to use smaller tubing on the exhaust manifold to increase air speed/pressure to help spool the turbo quicker. I think this is along the lines of what you were saying peewee. Warpspeed and SydneyKid, what do you think. Thanks
  16. Sorry to post again so soon, but just a couple of things. In cars that I have dealt with, If it idles up and down try Air Flow Meter or Oxygen sensor. We've had this problem a bit...mostly AFM.....might not be such a good idea to take the mesh out after all. If it surges when you tromp it but will rev smooth if you ease it....definitely Fuel Pump. Seriously guys, if you own a turbo skyline get a new pump asap. We've dealt with a lot of them and the stock pumps always die. When the cars are imported they have very little or no fuel in them and I think this has something to do with why they fail. It is so common a problem I think it should be part of compliance. It would sure avoid a lot of unnecessary engine rebuilds. Leaning out due to a weak pump is real bad news. We sell them but get one from anywhere. Go the Bosch 044 good for 650hp Hope this helps.
  17. STALLING AT LIGHTS ETC. ESPECIALLY WHEN A/C IS ON I don't think anyone has touched on the possibility of a vacuum leak. It is highly possible this is why the cars are stalling at the lights etc. We work with a lot of skylines and this is often the problem. A leaking BOV etc. will do it but more commonly it will be perished vacuum lines. Just behind the throttle body is a problem area. Just listen for the hiss. See how you go.

  19. yay for the skylines.....except mine:( once again keeping those ankle biting little 4's at bay. The fact that the skylines cost twice as much and were faster by .1 of a second means nothing.....heh heh. That mph is awesome squizz, can't wait for next time, maybe some decent rubber would go down well. As for me 300hp at the wheels and a stock computer just didn't go together ....too lean. Time to fit the t78 but not before the microtech and maybe a 3L bottom end.
