Thanks for the comments. Yea I got the car a few months ago as an unfinished project. Alot of the interior had been done and it had been resprayed. The car had also just had the NA engine swapped out for a DET and an Auto to Man conversion. When I got it the car was horrible to drive. It was still stock but with bigger injectors and fuel pump and had no power and fuel blowing out the exhaust. Things I have had to do is finish the interior, completely redo all the electical work inside. Basically when the indiglow covers where fitted to the dash the needles were removed and every guage was stuffed. Had to replace dash, redo all the wiring behind the dash, recalabrate speedo and fitted stereo and turbo timer. Have spent close to 8k on the car after buying it. Motor is very nice now but still needs another tune as it's missing in first at around 4200rpm (and knock sensor was too high for my liking). Once I do wheels and new turbo I will be happy with it for a while. Ohh and the comment about the glare off the dash is true. ATM you will go snowblind driving this car on a bright day. My interior guy is doing up a custom dash mat that will fix the glare problem.

Yup they are 4 stud mags. After christmas I will go mag shopping but until then these will have to do. Wheels are probably the weekest part of the car atm.

Finally got some pics of the car

Thanks Prae .. didn't check it before -
Most of the engine mods are done. So far have PowerFC, Nismo Cat back exhaust, New hiflow cat, Custom dump pipe, front mount, Big pod in stainless airbow (looks very nice) with cold air pipe from front, GFB stealth BOV and a huge service to replace most wear items. On the dyno running stock boost it did 183kwatw. Should do around 200 on stock turbo boosted to 12 psi. Saving for a GT30 turbo etc now and hope that with that and AVCR to get around the 250kw without huge boost. Might look at a rebuild then so I can push it to the 300kw mark but still not sure.

Guys one thing you can do in Queensland is to grab a small tape recorder and if your pulled over tape the conversation. All traffic cops are running a tape and if they book you and you fight it your within your rights to ask for a copy of the tape. It is quite amazing how their attitude will change if they know your taping them :-). If you can tape for a while (while your being abused) then let them see the tape and watch them change tune in some cases they may even let you go.

Got the car back again (still need one more trip back to mechanic for final couple of items) and it's looking better. Going back for some more tuning on the dyno as I was getting a little detonation at around 4500rpm in first under load. Pretty happy and I am now saving for the GT30 turbo, ext wastegate which is the next stage. I am thinking about putting in the avcr beforehand and pumping up the stock turbo till then but not sure. I am also thinking of changing the square inserts in the doors to yellow to break up the white and am interested in any comments you may have on the interior. Here are a few pics to start of.

Looks great. I like the stripe it will help us recognise you around town. Think about a PowerFC. I am sooo glad I spent the extra money and put one in my car as it really makes a difference when tuning. -
Will let you guys know how it goes. After talking to QLD transport (that was frustrating) they put me onto a guy that they recomend for mods. After I have my mods done he will come out and check them all. I have to have a printout from my dyno tune showing emissions/airflow etc also. I told him I had a new front mount, pod filter that was having a custom box made up, power FC, aftermarket BOV (GFB Stealth that plumbs back or vents) and full exhaust. He said that should be no problem as long as my emissions are ok and everything is safe. He will provide me with a certificate that you then take to QLD transport with a modification form they have. It will still need to be inpected by them to confirm that the certified mods are there and will then issue a plate. After reading the mod guide I am starting to realise how much of a pain keeping it legal will be. For example you can fit stearing wheels that are ADR approved if you don't have an airbag however changing seats will normally mean you have to get the car inspected. I was also told (this is still unconfirmed) that the only way to get a CF bonnet certified is get 2!! One for the car and one for them to destroy to check if it is safe.. I am booking him in for Thursday I hope and will let you know what happens. After this is all done I am sort of looking forward to getting pulled over

My car is painted yellow and has a full white interior. Most of it is white leather with the roof etc done in white vinyl. The dash was sprayed with with white vinyl paint and the plastic around the dash is done in metalic silver. All I can say is that even though it looks good (well I think it does) this car is pain to drive in full sunlight. The glare from the dash is so bad that without sunglasses you have a hard time seeing. I am getting a custom dash mat made up in grey to match the plastic which I hope will fix up the glare problem. As soon as I get the car back this week from the shop i'll get some pics posted.

If you want something that is going to make noise your going to making the car illegal and subject to getting a defect. The cops love the noise of a BOV as it gives them reason to pull you over. When buying one just make sure it is made for a R33 or has the adapter plate you need and yes they are easy to install. I have a monza (HKS copy) that is very loud and makes that great flutter noise but replacing it on monday for the GFB stealth. You can dial it to no noise or loud depending on what you want and when set to plumb back it's legal!!. Remember it's not the noise that makes them illegal it's the fact they vent engine gasses that havn't been through your cat.

looks like fun. Will check if I am in Brisbane.

The engine is new but hasn't been added to the rego yet. I was told all I have to do is take it to an inspection station so they can sight the new engine number and add it to the rego details. From what I have read it seems that you don't need certificates for all your mods. If the car came stock with a BOV and you replace it thats fine as long as it plumbs back. It's only the fact that your venting gas into the atmosphere that hasn't been through the cat that gets you a defect (and noise if it's really loud). It also appears that you can make 1 change to your induction without causing a defect. So pod (as long as it is in a box) with original Intercooler or FMIC with original airbox should be ok but both would mean defect. Also I was told that any pillar mount guage or dash mount guage is also a defect item. If anyone has any details on what would need to be checked that would be a huge help.

Ouch if you want to prove your R33 is beter than an Evo 8 you better go get a loan. To be fair if you get a front mount intercooler, have full exhaust (alot of imports only have cat back) and an aftermarket computer (Power FC is nice) you should be making 180 kwatw on standard boost. Your looking at about $4000-$5000 to get that done including some time on the dyno to get the tune done nice. Your still going to lag behind your friends evo but you won't be miles behind (straight line that is add corners into equation and he has you). If you want more then think about new turbo and boost controller and with stock internals you might make 250 kwatw without too much problem running decent boost. This should give you enough power (if you sort out wheel spin) to keep up and driven well beat a stock evo. Around $6000 would get most of this done. If you want more then you need to think about doing up the internals. Also by doing this your going to find that your standard brakes, suspension and clutch will be sub par. Btw rather than racing on the street just get some of these mods done and go to a dyno day ... you will more than likely put out more power and thats sort of like winning :-)

I should be finished my stage 1 mods in the next 2 weeks. I still need to get the cold air box made up for my pod filter and change the blowoff so that it plumbs back (getting a GFB so I can still have it vent when I want). Once i have done this I am going to try and get engineers cetificates for the cars mods so that "WHEN" I get pulled over I won't be defected on the spot. Has anyone had there mods done in Brisbane or know of someone who can? If we can find someone might be able to get a good price for the group too if others are interested. Darren

This may sound bad but Rent a Bomb operates on the coast. Basically they have older cars that are in pretty decent condition. You can get a 4 door for $12 a day. Here is there web site: http://www.rentabomb.com.au/ Good luck

I am getting my work done at Mercury Motorsport at Wilston. The guys have done a fair bit on my car including a PFC. The tune they did was very nice making 185 kwatw on standard boost (8psi). They sell and install all the APEXI gear and do a good job. Ask for Trent and say Darren sent you :-)

The manual is the R33 Engine Service manual for the RB20E, RB25DE, RB25DET and RB26DETT. It covers engines, drive train, Specs and electrical (It's 491 pages) . I have the colour car owners manual too but not scanned in. This one covers everything else you would expect ie: radio, dash internal electrical, fuse location etc. If anyone has questions let me know or if you need a few pages I could scan them in (I'll get round to scanning in the 150 pages one day). jaqule I'll let you know how my the custom box turns out. being made out of stainless and will have top plate that can be opened for easy access to the filter. Will also be using the old hole that the stock intercooler pipe entered engine bay as the feed for coldair pipe. Will look at insulation inside too. The fitter who did my intercoller did a very nice job and he will do this too. Can't wait.

Got my R33 Dynoed. Comparisons?
Niss_Fan replied to nmcmahon83's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I got 185 at the wheels with FMIC, full zaust, Pod (no cold air yet) and PowerFC running standard boost (was at 8psi). -
Got the car back on Friday and so far i am pretty happy. Got most of the mods done that I wanted and will be doing more next month. So far the project is at this stage : Huge service!! Replaced most hoses, belts, lines, fluids etc. FMIC - full polish Custom dump and high flow cat connected to a Nismo zaust. GTR fuel pump and 550cc injectors Power FC install and tune New pads and disks machined all round 4 new tyres ( go on next sat) apexi auto timer (intall next sat with new stereo) Bit of electricle work still to finish once parts arrive (recalabrate speedo and dash tacho) Before all this it ran like a dog .. was getting done by 85 lasers :-) Now without playing with boost (it's at 8 psi) I get 185 kw at wheels. Next step is swapping my monza blowoff for a GFB stealth (neighbours already pissed with noise). Also getting a box made up for the pod filter with some cold air fed in. AVCR is going to be installed and then boost stock turbo to about 12psi. Should do over 200 at wheels I hope. Saving atm for a GT30 turbo with external wastegate. This I hope will put it at around 260 kw. Already thinking about the engine rebuild but will have to wait and see how the minister for war and finance is about the next bill :-) Give me a wave if you see me... cars a very yellow R33 with GTR kit and white leather interior. Now for tech docs.... with all my searching I have managed to collect a few docs for the R33. Included is an R33 english workshop manual, wiring diagram, ECU pin out diagram, guides for dash removals and stereo installs. Alot of people look for this information and some charge for it. I am happy to burn a copy of this onto CD if any of you guys want it. Just let me know and I will get a copy burned. I am on the southside and happy to meet peeps (lol within reason). Will do the CD for either 50c or a blank CD. catch you guys out cruising.

Engine light on after PFC install
Niss_Fan replied to Niss_Fan's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks once I work out the controller will check. also noticed that it isn't monitoring the air temp. I know that they fitted a new dump and high flow cat and when i got under and had a look didn't see the wire that was connected to the old cat was missing. I wish they would make these intructions in english :-) Before I start playing with the PFC does this sound right to turn off the boost kit: etc mode Function Select Boost Cntl kit Edit: Yup that was it engine light is gone .. thanks for the help!!
