They are a bloody big restriction when you are pumping a whole lot of air through them: 2.5l engine at 4000rpm = 10000l air min = 166L/sec, Unless you have a hairdryer (talking real hairdryer, not a turbo) that flows 166L/sec then your not going to even be able to imagine what sort of restriction an intercooler can be.

Maybe we could get a few QLD's interested in the NSW group buy and ship them together to save shipping costs and time. We will see what happens, and what the NSW organisers are willing to do.
-
Yeah he can, he is doing the buying for the NSW group buy, but jaycar will not ship to indervidual addresses so they would have to be posted up from sydney, from funkymonkey's address. I am currently in on the NSW group buy, but I'm waiting to see how QLD goes, it may be worth the extra $25 just to be able to pick them up from a QLD store. Funkymonkey is the one who gave me those trader prices. I'm waiting to see who is interested here, and what is going to be involved in just going in with the NSW group buy (ie, shipping to Briz).

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Funny shit, please tell me your not seriously thinking of putting an intercooler on a NA skyline! If yes, and you know a little bit about cars - please register one vote here for rice thread of the month. If yes, and you don't know much about cars - trust me, don't buy it and definatly don't put it on your car. If you really have to buy it, just put it under your bed and wait till you bolt a hairdryer to your engine. Try not to thing I'm having a go - just get some more experience with cars. BTW: yes, your could get your NA car to run with an intercooler but I would put money on a loss in performance - intercoolers are big restrictions - the last thing you need on a NA engine, it would be purely rice value.

Does this mean no one is interested? It looks like there is no one out there with a jaycar trader account so if we get 5 people (four more inc me) the price will be $239 which is $60 cheaper than RRP. I'll give it a week.
-
Yeah mate I'm still in, as long as: 1) You are willing to post it to Brisbane (which I'll pay for) 2) shipping is no more than $15 The QLD group buy got no intrest at all - what's the deal there? I might be able to get a mate who lives in Sydney to pick it up for me, but for now assume you'll have to post it up. Cheers!

Something else to think about Shift points to give you the max terminal speed for the 1/4 mile. These points are essentially where the torque curves cross each other on the Traction chart. Note these points are not always exactly right as the wind slows the vehicle during gear shift making the best shift point estimation more difficult. However, to achieve the best ET you generally need to change gears a little later. This is because shifting later means you are going faster for the during of the shift time. This means more distance will be covered. The optimum shift point is when the advantage of shifting later if offset by the loss of being too far past where the torque curves cross. These points are easily found by trial and error. Start with the best shift points for terminal speed and increase the shift rpm from there. For most engines the best ET will be achieved by revving to redline.

I have just the thing for you, take a look at this thread and the program in it. If you input the correct data it can accuratly tell you the most efficient shift points for your particular car (dyno chart). http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...how+to+estimate It estimates a whole lot of other performance parameters as well. It is a really good program and I think you will find it usefull. It already has data for one of my mates 32 GTR's and the programs are very close to reality.

These little babies will do you just fine. I'll be running a phenox gold 12inch sub on two channels and a pair of JL splits up the front.
-
Hey, funkymonkey I'd still be keen for this group buy if you are willing to ship mine to brisbane (I'd pay for it of course). That depends on it still being worth it - I presume it will not be more than $10 to ship to Briz. What is the likelyhood of Jaycar shipping direct to me?

Wanna go Skydiving?
JCMarshall_Law replied to SupaFly Skyline's topic in Australian Capital Territory
I did my first jump about 2 months ago and I'm doing my second in two weeks time. I would recommend that everyone should do it at least once, it is probably the coolest thing I have done! after this jump I'll be sweet for the course and my first solo jump - that should be duckin scary! gets a fair bit cheaper one you have your solo licence - jump for about $30 if you have your own chute. Go do it! -
Anyone interested in a group buy for the new Jaycar Response 4x100W amp? http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productVi...x=&SUBCATID=443 Specifications: Power / channel @ 4ohm 14.4V: 130WRMS x 4 Power / channel @ 2ohm 14.4V: 190WRMS x 4 Power / bridged @ 4ohm 14.4V: 380WRMS x 2 Signal/Noise ratio: >90dB Input sensitivity: 200mV to 5V Low pass filter: 50 - 500Hz @ 12dB/octave High pass filter: 50 - 500Hz @ 12dB/octave Pass thru RCA: Yes Dimensions: 400(L) x 258(W) x 50mm(D) On the site it says 5+ units = $239.00, RRP for one is $299 Does any one have a trader account with JAYCAR! If any one out there has a trader account with Jaycar then we can get them for: If you buy 1 or 2 its $211 If you buy 3 its $200 If you buy 4 or more its $190 plus GST (so add 10%) So if we get 4 people and someone with a trader accound, that is only $209 for a 4x100 watt car audio amplifier! That is an aboulute bargin. I have read a few reviews and they all say you cant beat the value for money, so for $209 how could you go wrong? So expressions of intrest, suggestions etc. BTW: A similar group buy is happening in NSW see it here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...521#post1367521
-
I'm going to post a similar group buy in QLD section, I'm sure we can get more than 4 people interested, and I'm sure there is someone with a trader account on the QLD forums. Its prolly not worth the bother / cost to get one up from Sydney. BTW: Funkymonkey, what do you have to do to get a trader account with Jaycar?

Space saver wheel?!?
JCMarshall_Law replied to d00dz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The thin space saver wheels make good front runners for the drags. Just a random bit of info for everyone out there. -
Closed loop lambda control
JCMarshall_Law replied to JCMarshall_Law's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Hey, thanks a lot for that Mr Power. Makes sense to me. -
Hey I'd be really keen for one of those amps at $190 + GST ($209), that is an aboulute bargin. I have read a few reviews and they all say you cant beat the value for money, so for $209 how could you go wrong. Only problem I'm in Brisbane, what do Jaycar do about shipping? Could we organise the buy so I could pick mine up from a Brisbane store?

LOL, I was wondering how long it would take to run into another FSAE team member on the forum. Yeah, the comp has come a really long way since it started. I went to 3 comps (2001, 2002, 2003) and I was a member of the UQ team in 2002 and 2003. The quality of the cars now is really supprising - Uni of QLD (my team) went from being a bunch of hicks from up north to being one of the best teams in the world in just 3 years. And now I've got the car!!! I heard UTS got their act together last year?
-
Can't you just register the team as a business (get an ABN) and sponsor it with the money you earn in your day job, then you can take the cost of running the team out of your total income which is your wage + plus income from team (which will presumably be $0 unless you are wining comps). That way you will onely be taxed on your income - the cost of running the team. I can't see anything wrong with your logic, but it might be eaiser to do what I have suggested. BTW; I'm no expert on tax law! Maybe some of the accountants on this forum could shed some light on the topic.
-
If anyone is seroius about starting a team and want to become a fiancial member of this project then PM me. The cost of the project is getting a bit excessive for just one person. Maybe we could get something semi professional going if I think you are really into it. I would be willing to start a team as joint owners. You would have to live in or around Brisbane. There is a thread about tax benifits of starting your own race team that may develop into something usefull. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...839#post1358839

I've been thinking about getting a team together for a while now, here is a link to the car I'm putting together for motorkana / hillclimbs and the like. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...f+my+racing+car Unfortunatly I don't own a business so it is a bit hard to sponsor myself. Or can I register the team as a business in my name and start claiming tax for the running of the team? I'd be really interested to know if anyone knows some more info on this topic. BTW: If anyone is seroius about starting a team and want to become a fiancial member of the project in the above thread them PM me. We could perhaps start a team as joint owners. You would have to live in or around Brisbane.

Does anyone know when the ECU in skylines (specifically RB25DET) run in Closed loop lambda control mode, ie; adjusting the air fuel ratios based on O2 sensor readings. I have heard it only runs closed loof on cruise (after sufficient time at constant RPM), but I have also heard they run closed most of the time, only going into open loop on full throtle. Thanks in advance.

Hey Wez, did not take you long to find the thread! Like Wez said, his program is in another ballpark. I thought I'd post up the calculated best shift points for a R32 GTR, that should get things going: For best km/h: (this gives 11.155 @ 202.7km/h) RPM GEAR km/h 4000 stall speed 36 8500 first 77 8200 second 124.2 8010 third 179 8020 fourth 234 8500 fifth 330 For best ET: (this gives 11.144 @ 201.8 km/h) RPM GEAR km/h 4000 stall speed 36 8500 (redline) first 77 8500 (redline) second 128.8 8500 (redline) third 190 8500 (redline) fourth 248 8500 (redline) fifth 330 Here is a bit of an explination of why the shift points are different when chasing high trap speeds or Low ET's (from the Excell dyno)
-
Hey all, Do you want to be able to estimate (for any car): 1) 60ft time 2) 200ft time 3) 1/4 mile time 4) 1/4 mile speed 5) Wheel spin / traction graphs 6) Most efficient shift points for best ET or best terminal speed. 7) Accleleration graphs 8) Distasnce v time 9) Gradient charts 10) and see what effect varying hundreds of vehicle parameters has on all the above. and more... Then take a look at the Excel dyno (excell file) that can be downloaded in the following location. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/exceldyno/ It is a really cool excell file based on visual basic macros that allows you to enter data about a car and accuratly estimate heaps of performance parameters. Inputs include, engine dyno data, car parameters (CD, weight..etc), tyre setup and more. It allows you to set shift points or have it calculate the most efficient points. All credit for its creation goes to Wez, a mate form work. He is a mechanical engineer and has had a fair bit of experence playing around with cars - he also seems to have a lot of spare time He has set up a Yahoo group for all things Excel dyno, if your interested take a look. It has been tested with a number of different cars and it has proven to return supprisingly accurate results. Of most intrest to people on this forum would be the R32 GTR data that is already entered in the program - this data was based on another workmates car and gives very accurate results when tested at the drags. Just enter your dyno chart and car details and you can start dropping those 1/4 times. You can always add any car that is not already in the program as long as you know all the parameters. Here is a list of car/bike data that is already entered in the database: 93 MR2 Turbo 95 200SX SE-R Ford Falcon AUIII Ford Telstar 92,95 MX6 - Gen II V6 Subaru WRX VW Baja VW drag manx R32 GTR Suzuki DL650 Suzuki Hayabusa It is all free but if you want to give Wez cash I'm sure he will not refuse:) just email him on the address at the website above.
