  1. Good to see this thread has kept it cleen, My opinion is that dollar for dollar on performance modifications, the 6lt will will always beat a GTST. $4000 on a GTST will prolly get you a reliable 200 rwkW => 1350kg/200kw = 6.75kg/kW $4000 on a 6ltr will prolly get reliable 280rwkW (wild stab in the dark) => 1690kg/280kW = 6.0gk/kW Having said that I love my R33 GTST - it is the best car I have owned. In my humble opinion I would rather spend $60k on a GTR, But lets face it if I had all the cash in the world I would not own a nissan or a holden, I'd be buying a F40 Ferrari, AMG55 Merc, M5 BMW or a custom built car.
  2. i_am_maximo has my vote for tookit of the month.
  3. I've had a few chats with the guy who makes these and I have to admit, he had me very interested - and I'm definatly not easy to convince - especially by someone who is tryiny to sell me one. I have heard lots of good things about them from independant sources as well. I think I'll be giving one of their split dumps a go when I get the cash (something like $500)
  4. Your car would not be running at all if the exhaust cam was not turning, so one of two things has happened: 1) you have missunderstood the mechanic when they were explaining the problem, or 2) You have just discovered the worst mechanic in the world.

    Hi!

    Horray for hoons!
  6. Yep, they are in all R33s as far as I know, not sure about other models.
  7. ... and where did you hear that?
  8. Prolly seen a fair bit of action, but maybe a rebuild down the track and you will have one hell of a car. I'd say you got a good deal but I don't know what you paid for it? Keep us updated on the car, I'm keen to know how it turns out and exactly what the car comes with.
  9. Sorry Paul, can you make that a bit clearer - what has been canclled and what threads?
  10. Come on guys, get out there these days are great, well worth the cash.
  11. I'll be there, but not on the dyno, R33 GTST
  12. I'd like to take a look before I commit, where are you located? what is the lowest you will go?
  13. Holy crap, should go alright, if you dont mind could you tell us how much all that cost.
  14. I vote the last post gets put into the tutorials, thanks heaps for that, I'll be doing this soon and that advice will be really helpfull.
  15. The answer to your question is no, but CAI may help reduce inlet temps. The car spontaneously combusting was a joke, and It does not work like this, heat transfer is not a linear relationship. If you increase the turbo inlet temp by 15 degrees, the engine inlet temps (after the cooler) will not increase by 15 degrees. The higher the temp the faster the heat transfer, it is basic heat transfer theory.
  16. plenty of people have done but you may want to check the commodore forums, www.calaisturbo.com for eg.
  17. No, but your car may spontaneously combust
  18. My advice: 1)look at at least 5 cars before you even think of buying something - even if you think you have just found the best deal ever - trust me there are better deals out there. 2) Keep a good eye out on these forums, some seriously good deals come up fairly regularly - I know because I have been kicking myself seeing what some really nice lines are going for on these forums.
  19. It is not to bad for a dealer i thought, but the respray sounds a bit dodgy - makesure your convinced on the reasons for the respray. You could get a lot better car for that price in a private sale. About the km's, I think that is a great sign, if those log books are genuine, almost all skylines have their clocks wound back and prolly have up to twice what the odo says. 107000 KM's is definatly not to much if they are genuine - which the logs books would indicate. I paid $19000 for mine in a private sale about a year ago, which was a lot, but I don't think there was a better one in Briz for sale at the time (considering what I was looking for), I looked at 14 lines over about 2 months, most were $1000 - $3000 cheaper, but I was willing to pay the higher price for this one.
  20. Because then it wont be a RB25DE
  21. There is a thousand posts on this topic - do a search, or just try these ones: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...light=R33+boost http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...light=R33+boost http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...light=R33+boost
  22. Well don't I feel like a dickhead, I prolly watched that movie 20 times when it came out as well I have to edit my first post to remove all evidence of my chumpness,
  23. *** All evidence of my chumpness removed*** Compression braking is no problem at all, the exhaust pressure will only just be a bit higher than idling exhaust pressure (if you are off the throttle). The engine will be turning faster than idle - more fuel will be burnt so the pressure will be higher. The wastegate will be closed when compression braking. I cant see how the exhaust pressure would get anywhere close to the pressure when at full throttle and high RPM, it is burnt fuel that creates 99.999% ?? percent of the exhaust pressure - not the pumping action of the engine. When you take away the fuel an engine is just a pump with a compression stroke.
  24. Wider tyres are not always a help in the rain, the wider a tyre is, the more likely it is going to aquaplane. I've been having great fun over the past few days sliding through the rain.
  25. Make info on SAU membership easier (possible) to find. How about products review section, It would be a great way to limit, the "what are these intercoolers like" threads. I know there is plenty of reviews I'd like to write on products I have used and plenty of times I wished there was a review section. Just make sure it is easy to search - suggestion: have some set format for the title of the review. Make sure all the reviews are in one thread and dissallow any chat or questions in the reviews threads. Only people who have actually used the product should be allowed to review, not just "I had a mate who heard these turbochargers are crap" - Obviously there will have to be some trust on the maturity of the members here. Keep download times low - limit the bling. Make info avaliable on how to use features of the site, eg: How to: 1) post pictures in threads as attachments and between text. 2) add pictures or annimations into your signature and AVATAR 3) Add images to your gallery - this may be a member privlige - not sure. 4) Use other features I don't know about. These are things I would like to know - could someone PM me to tell me or point me to this info? This is a big one - not sure how big but just putting the idea out there. How about a file sharing program from SAU (something like Bear share or Napster) so members can eaisly share info, pics, and random stuff related to skylines. I know there is a lot of tech info out there on peoples computers that I would love to get hold of. I'm no expert on computers so not sure if I just asked the impossible, but I think it would be sweet. More secure registration for traders on SAU, two ideas: Private sellers: only allow people to sell over SAU if they have been members for +3? months, and made more than 50 posts. They should also have to provide SAU with a fixed line phone number, address and real name. Thse details should be kept private, but made avaliable to the buyer if there is a problem - similar to the ebay system. Business': Only allow people to sell if they make avaliable all of their details, inc - Name (trade and personnal names), address (office location), phone number, ABN. These should be made publically avaliable and should be displayed on all for sale posts. Anyway I'm no lawyer or computer wiz but they are my ideas. cheers.
