  1. It fairly obvious that the XR6T will be faster in a straight line. The XR6T has an excellent engine in my opinion that will respond VERY well to power upgrades (so does the GTT). Your prolly never going to get the same power from the RB25DET as you would from the XR6T (for the same money spent) - there is 1.5 extra liters in the XR6T! But Overall I think the skyline is a better designed and built car, (they are in different price brackets new so you cant really compare them), I know the brakes are a bit of a problem, I have a mate with a XR6T, at a recent track day he had heaps of problems, pulling up the car, At the end of the day the car got towed because the disks had warped so badly. Having said that, he still thinks it is a good car and does not regret buying it.
  2. Damm!!! I got pissed and forgot about the cruise!! Oh well.
  3. bakelite hey? How does this stuff go in compression - is it going to deform, crack or deteorate over time being squashed between the head and the inlet manifold. What sort of temperatures can it cope with. What are the thermal properties - ie heat transfer rate through the material, (W/Deg_C/m)
  4. Yeah if anyone can help, I've had heaps of trouble finding companys that sell sell top secret secret stuff as well. The CIA and MI5 never return my calls!
  5. Lucky, I think the sprint circuit is prolly a bit more fun than the clubman circuit. I attached the track diagrams below,
  6. That can't be on the clubman circuit, the first 14 cars have better times than the fastest car on the February track day. What was different about the track?
  7. I had one, not a bad car, not the most elegantly designed car ever but still not bad, went good as well. They are too old now but if they are completly rebuilt I love them. Having said that, I don't think I could ever go back to a VL after the skyline, overall the skyline is a better car, even considering the age difference.
  8. I did mechanical engineering, the FSAE team was a UQ mech department project. Just to clear that up, your saying the engines changed size (engine mount position and overall size) when they went to the F4 model in the CBR600? In that case if I'm going to use a CBR600 again it will need to be the F3 (the origional engine was a '98' F3 CBR600). But if your saying the CBR600 and 900 are close to the same size before the F4 model then if may be worth chasing up the CBR900 idea some more. Want to sell me the engine out of the '92'? - HAHAHAHA:D. Thanks for that info. That would be great, I might give them a call to see what they can tell me. I have had trouble getting anyone at businesses to spend the time to tell me or find me the dimensions of the CBR900 engine, not supprisingly, time is money. I have a detailed CAD (solid edge) model of the CBR600 F3, I need the same thing for the CBR900 or the CBR600 F4. Cheers for the info.
  9. It has Formula SAE spec roll bars and intrusion bars, but still, your right, sitting in it is like being straped into a metal cage, definatly not someting I'm planning on crashing.
  10. Not sure why the other pics did not work here they are.
  11. Edit 18/8/05, Project is still going along slowly, got shocks and springs sorted, Driveline is all in CAD ready to machine. Still negotiating with the current UQ SAE team to sell me the old engine - they dont need it now as they are using the CBR600 F4 which has different engine mounts. I have reattached the pics that got lost with the new version of SAU, See post 16. Its not a skyline, but it will kick the ass of any skyline through a motorkana circuit. Originally designed and built by myself and a few other guys in 2003 at the Uni of QLD for the Formula SAE competition. It was the highest placed car at the Australian comp overall, but more importantly we got first place in the Endurance race. I've bought it (from the team) without the engine and driveline. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding it as a motorkana / hillclimb special. Currently I'm trying to locate an engine, I'm looking at a CBR900 honda motorbike engine (origionally had a CBR600) but I'm having trouble finding dimensions to work out if it will be worth modifying the chassis. Anyone know the dimensions of the CBR900 (or even just the size differnce between the CBR900 and the CBR600) Anyone have a CBR600 or 900 for sale? The FSAE competition rules required a 20mm (80Hp) restrictor in the inlet. but it still kicked ass at only 200kg. below is the results of a 1/4 run at willobank in march 2004 (with the competition restrictor in place). I'll be rebuilding it without the restrictor - looking for about 130hp out of the CBR900 - should be lots of fun. Reaction: 0.6 60ft: 1.93 330ft: 5.306 660ft: 8.207 1000ft: 10.75 ET: 13.00 MPH: 99.96 KPH: 160.86 BTW: it was not exactly designed as a drag car, the FSAE philosophy is pretty much the same as motorkana, build a small fast, manoeuvrable 4 wheel vehicle. Here is a few more specs: -1540mm Wheelbase -1200mm front track, 1100mm rear track -4130 Racetech 650 chassis -Weight 200Kg -CNC machined uprights from 6061 billet aluminium -CNC machined hubs from 6061 aluminium -unequal length A arm suspension at all four corners -push rods at the rear, pull rods on front with modified coil over bike shocks. - willwood calipers (2 at front, single at rear) - Moulded carbon fibre bodywork and seat - No rear diff, with modified VW driveline components (current) Anyway, I thought I'd share that with everyone because I'm proud of it. Pics are below.
  12. I'd move on but I cant afford a 911 GT3 Porshe yet.
  13. BTW: You dont have to have a skyline, some of the cars at the last couple of days include, GT3 911 Porsche, AMG55 V8 merc, 800kW commodore, WRX's, BMW's, Clubman, Lotus, Cobra as well as plenty of R32 - R34 GTR and GTST's. Sorry if I did not mention it before but skylines with green racing stripes are not permitted, Queensland Raceway regulations apparently, sorry Cyrus;)
  14. I though I'd post this here because the thread in the events section does not get much air play. I know Paul (GTRman1992) still has places avaliable for the Tuesday 15 march track day (and later dates). I just thought I would tell people to get off their asses and go! They are great days, really well organised and you get heaps of track time for such a great price ($110). I've been to the past two days (I was a driver second time) but both times I had a ball. Plenty of good people, and good cars. I ended up getting around 25 laps in 6 runs and trust me that is heaps. Mine is a close to stock r33 GTST and I was hitting 170km/h at the end of the front straight then braking into the sweeping right hander at 130km/h. Now that is fun!!!! You can go as hard as you like or as easy as you like, you can absoultly flog your car or you can take it granny it around (why would ya though ?!?!). You will find out exactly how good at driving you are, you might be shocked at how sh1t you really are and how much you have to learn. It really gives you an appreciation for professional race drivers. It is an international standard track, clubman circuit at queensland raceway, same track as the V8 super cars use just with one of the "bunny ears' missing. Go take a look at www.queenslandraceway.com. Its cheap, its legal, it is as rough or easy on the car as you choose, its well organised, its easy, it is a great track, and most of all its heaps of fun! GO DO IT. PM Paul now. Go here for some pics of the last day: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...light=track+day Go here for info on the track days: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...light=track+day Go here for the March 15 track day thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...light=track+day Cheers
  15. Holy crap, that is one hell of a workshop, I only dream of having a place like that to work on my car.
  16. Your guage prolly goes up as you drive because the float is at the rear of the tank, when you take off the fuel sloshes to the back and the fuel guage goes up, when you brake, the reverse happens, fuel guage goes down. Thats my experence with my r33 GTST. My fuel usage is about 12.5l/100km or about 400ks per tank.
  17. My 2c 1st 1c: Excellent to hear it was not a rb25det that blew up, LOL. Pretty sure the rb20 and 25 would be bouncing off the rev limiter at 226kph!!! 2nd 1c: The coppers chased them because they can, I know a couple of highway cops and that is the sort of thing they hand out for, a chance to be in a +200kph chase, they are same as the people racing, they just to get to do it legally.
  18. Does the PFC have tha capability to store 4 different maps for the 4 different boost levels, so that when you adjust the boost level, the correct map is automatically loaded? That would be ideal. I guess the maps are not going to be significantly different up to a certian load on the engine anyway. BTW: My knowledge of EFI tuning is limited at best.
  19. That is true, before my first track day I was looking for more rwkw, after a day at the track the direction turned to spending money on the handling side of things. Track days are the best way of finding out how much more you need to learn about driving your car. Yet another vote for spending the cash on track time.
  20. It is not complied or registered I presume?
  21. I think I had the same noise before I had my 100,000km service, got the belt, tensioner and idler bearings replaced. It was not a cheap trip to the mechanics that was origionally just supposed to be a tune up. They said I had a serious timing belt noise and recomended I change ASAP. That was Gavin Wood Autotech on the Gold Coast so I trusted them and had it done.
  22. You can get them brand new from an australian supplier cheaper than $1400. Eg; chiptorque in QLD
  23. Space shuttle Columbia blew up about a year ago! Running to much boost through the stock turbo I heard. Discovery was just not maintained.
  24. I have lost faith in the intelligence of the human race. here is his email address if anyone wants to spam him: [email protected]
  25. LOL, I'd cry and call for my mum.
