Get on Paul's (aka SAU: mountian runners) email list about QLD raceway track days. He is running a motorsport driver training course at the next one. Cant remember who the trainers are but they know what they are doing. I think the next one is full but I'm sure there will be another one. Get out there and practice. The following list is my times for the clubman track at QLD raceway: My first track day: best time 1:12.97 Second: 1:10.6 Third: 1:09.0 and so on, my best "unofficial' time now is 1:06, there may have been something wrong with the timing that day because that is a very good time. So what I'm trying to say is: get out there and drive. There was minimal mods between those track days and I still have a pretty close to stock r33

Holy trackday action batman!!! That was a great day, I had a ball. Even the three hours I spent hunched over the timing computer pulling my hair out were fun (in a strange kind of way). Bummer about the Supra, that thing is a machine.. bigger, better, faster!!! Hope the day was not too stressful for you Paul, I think everyone would agree the day went really well. I was really hoping to claim that 1:06 on the clubman but the three 1:09's I did in the same set were prolly more realistic, might have been a misshap with the timing Thans heaps to jmac for taking me out on the passenger drive hour, that was a lot of fun. It was great to see the lines another driver was taking, espacially fun when it is in a 200rwkW r34 with semi slicks!!! It was great just stuffing around with all the other drivers and volunteers. Those drift guys were insane, Robbie Bolger is one of a kind and that drift monaro is something else...holy crap! Once again, thanks heaps Paul, you really go above and beyond for these days. Cheers, Pat. PS: post up some photos, I did not bring my camera!

How about now Paul??? Can I claim the 1:06 on the clubman

Wow, heartbreaking. You were one of those skyline owners I looked up too... ha ha Oh well change is as good as a holiday... Good luck with everything, I'm sure we'll see you around anyway.

Not sure how this affects other states but it is good for us Queenslanders, there is a new national standard on replacement engine sizes. The new rules are here, http://www.dotars.gov.au/transreg/vsb/vsb_..._downloads.aspx see page 18 of section 3 - LA engines. Or see attached pic for table Yey!!! 2JZ-GTE in a 1976 LT Celica here we come!!!

It is a really good course (so I have been told), a few friends did it a couple of years back (2 of the three now work in v8 supercar teams) but it is only really cost effective if you are going to be working on race car design quite a bit, ie professionally. It is a very detailed course and prolly best suited to someone who has already had a bit of experience. The guys I know (who were all in the UNI of QLD Formula SAE team at the time) said it was a pretty intense course. Having said that I'd love to go, I'm trying to get a job as a data / design engineer in a professional race team right now. While I'm at it; anyone know sombody in a professional team I can ask for a job? A name and number by PM would be great? Right now I cant afford it.

damm, and I was hoping to catch up with you at the next track day:) Do you mind telling us how much you got them for. Cheers,

Power Assisted Steering. I had the power steering drop out on mine on the street and it was not much fun. There is no way I'd consider it on the track. The steering on skylines my r33GTST is already excellent, the best feedback of any (road) car I have driven. Why would you want to remove the PAS? Weight?

R33 Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement
JCMarshall_Law replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Yeah it should be fairly obvious that the handbrake needs to be off but it is one of those stupid things that people do - I know because I've done it - I sat there for 15 mins wordering what I was doing wrong when trying to remove the rear disk, before I realised... damm... the bloody handbrake! The backing plates, it is more important for the fronts but I did my rears as well. I found it really did help. With standard rotors and backing plates in place I would have brake fade after 4 laps of the QLD raceway national circuit (famous for being hard on brakes - 4 long straights) after removing the backing plates I could get in around 5 or 6 laps before I had to let things cool down. In a R33 GTST. Cheers, -
Australia's Fastest Growing Demand
JCMarshall_Law replied to Ballina/lismore's topic in New South Wales
This thread rocks, I love a chance to quote the simpsons. Ralf - "I'm Idaho" Homer - "64 slices of american cheese, mmmm...." Homer - "Asleep at the switch!!! I wasn't asleep, I was drunk!" BTW: I really like Ballina and Lismore, I'm going camping there in a few weeks. But I'm not sure if I'd want to live there. Sorry dude, you have to admit this is a pretty weird topic for a skyline forum, might have got a better response in the wasteland section. While we are at it (talking about random things) I have a few things I'd like to get off my chest: 1) I need more money - my car is not finished yet. 2) Can someone give me a job designing racing cars - the mining industry sucks. 3) Can someone buy me one of those houses at Sherwood on the brisbane river. Thankyou that is all. -
R33 Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement
JCMarshall_Law replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Excellent guide, prolly not something I'll be doing for fun though:) Might be good to add: - make sure the handbrake is off before you try to take the rear disk off. - While you have the hub off, take the disk backing plates off (can be done with hubs on but not as easy). The have a big impact on brake cooling and only serve to collect rocks as far as I can see. -
C210 Engine Upgrades
JCMarshall_Law replied to coupe72001's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Sounds like a lot of effort for not much gain. If you buy a lada, take the engine and gearbox out, that way it will be easier to push around - which you will be doing a lot of the time. Ladas are one of the worst cars ever made imo. -
Supercheap will have the right size terminals, need to look harder or ask someone who knows what they are talking about. They should not have to be hammered on!

Bov Ughhhh.... Please I Am Not A Wanker.....
JCMarshall_Law replied to CEF11E's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
From what you have described, yes a BOV will help. Although it is not quite what I expected on an auto. Interesting problem you've got there, I started writing a technical response but found there were too many things I don't know about your situation. I'd need to talk to you to work out what is happening. -
Who Likes Track Days? Who's Scared Of 'em? Who Can't Afford It?
JCMarshall_Law replied to Abo Bob's topic in New South Wales
The track days organised up here in Queensland by Paul (aka: mountain runner) are booked out months ahead. Paul is already putting on an extra day to cope with demand. They are open to anyone, not just skyline owners so that makes a huge difference, if your having trouble, how about opening it up to other makes. Out of about 40 cars we usually get around 10 skylines and there is around 5 track days a year. track days are great fun and I'd recomend everyone goes out at least once. They can be a little indimidating if you have not done one but after one lap, you'll be wondering what you were worried about. They are expensive, there is no two ways about it. (it depends on what you call expensive though). I buget at least $400 for the day (track fees, licence, fuel, oil and filter, tyres, brake pads, etc...) but i have alyaws spent more than that. You can spend as little as possible or you can spend stupid amounts of money building a purpose built track car - it depands how far you want to go. I work full time on a decent wage so it is worth it for me. Many people will be worried about how hard it will be on the car. Don't be. you can go as easy as you like (withing reason) or you can completly flog you car reving to 9k and drifting around every corner. just make sure you car is well looked after (serviced) don't be stupid and come off the track. I ended up in the gravel last QR track day - cost over $1000 for respray of rims and touch up of the skirts. My 2c -
More, more! I want to know more you lucky bastard!
-
Welcome. I'd say very lucky start, how many people have had their GTR rebuild paid for by someone else??? I hope it is being done by a good workshop.
-
How much did it cost you? Did you do it yourself or workshop - which one? Standard new parts or heavy duty after market stuff? What power you got now?

Fatality Involving R33 Skyline
JCMarshall_Law replied to gtstcruiser67's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I can vouch for how dangerous those space savers are. I had to put mine on when I had a flat. I crawled away and around the first corner (seriously below 10km/h) and the tyre rolled off the bead and went flat in about 5 seconds!!! Obviously there was not enough pressure which caused the issue. Just lucky it did not happen at a faster speed. Lesson, don't drive around on space savers and make sure they are pumped up if you have to. All the best to those left behind. -
