Question About Boost Solenoid And Rich And Retard
ricsvtr replied to 240dreams's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
If you have disconnected the solenoid and dont have another boost controller installed you will only run 5psi. the purpose of the solenoid is to bleed off some air to the wastegate actuator once you reach a certain rpm to allow the turbo to spin up to 7psi. when i first got my car i noticed that i was only running 5psi and was wondering what was going on. i found out that it was because the boost controller i had in it was completely closed off therefore only running at the wastegate actuator spring pressure of 5psi. lots of ppl think its has a 7psi spring but thats not true. I dont know if this will help much with your problem tho.... -
I just tried some injector cleaner and it seems to have given me a few extra kms. I used to get around 400-420kms before the fuel light came on but yesterday i reached 490kms (r33 gtst)! I used redline SI-1 fuel system cleaner. I also changed the sparkplugs recently so maybe that helped too. anyway im pretty happy with the results as my previous car used to only get me 400kms from a 50l tank and that was a 1.6l!

Cops Stickering Cars Coming From Drift Wa Event
ricsvtr replied to CruiseLiner's topic in Western Australia
they shouldnt even be able to give u a yellow for having a boost guage (mounted in a suitable position) and pod filter. when i got a yellow and had to take my car over the pits i tried getting permits for my guage and pod filter and was told they dont issue permits for these items anymore and that cops shouldnt be giving out yellow stickers for having these mods. bummer eh? -
Hey i had a look at what youre talking about but are u sure that isnt the sensor for the boost gauge? im looking for where the tubing from the boost solenoid goes back into the intake. thanks for the reply anyway!

Surely someone must know???

HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
ricsvtr replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Im pretty sure if u dont have some sort of boost controller in place the boost will be limited to 5psi. im quite sure this is what the actuator spring is set for (5psi) and the original solenoid bleeds some air out to get it to 7psi when it is open. i had an after market boost controller in place which was completely closed (which is the same as just joining the pipes) and my car was running 5psi. -

ricsvtr replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
hey sorry if this is a bit off topic but does anyone know where the return air tubing on the solenoid goes to? i know it goes back to the intake somewhere but i cant find the exact spot. my solenoid has been removed and i wanna check if the hole has been plugged up properly. Pics would be muchly appreciated. Thanks! -

Stock Skyline Body Parts
ricsvtr replied to war33d's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
hey is the front bar mspec or just standard? -
hey mate just wait till u get defected for something small and we'll see if you are so calm. if u dont like what im saying then just dont read my post and "get over it and move on". dont u think its kinda suss when even the pit inspectors roll their eyes at some of the stuff ppl get defected for? the guy even said that i probably only got defected cos i was driving a skyline. bitching for the sake of it my ass....just wait till it happens to u mate. (if your looking for technical threads maybe u should look in the modifications and maintainence section?)

This is exactly what the guy at autoworx told me. I reckon the handbrake boot is a pretty good indicator, I noticed once at another prominent dealership that all their Skylines had the handbrake boots removed. The rubber on the pedals is another good indicator and also look for the timing belt service sticker.

At least someone understands how i feel! Anyways got it sorted now with 35% tint. For anyone that cares- according to the inspectors at the pits you dont need permits for things like pod filters, turbo timers, gauges (as long as theyre mounted suitably) anymore. I was going to apply for permits but the guy said i didnt need em. He said that basically a cop can yellow sticker for anything they want and that permits were not required for the mods i had and wouldnt neccessarily stop me from getting defected again. I might just apply for them anyway... I still think the whole thing was a load of crap, the cop reckoned if your tint is too dark you might not see someone and run em over. if thats the case are they gonna test peoples sunglasses to make sure theyre not too dark? plus now that ive got 'legal' tint ive noticed that HEAPS of cars have darker tint, but i dont see those cars with yellow stickers. I understand that not all cops are dickheads but this guy was a f**ken wanker.

Does anyone know how strict the welshpool pits are on exhausts? I have a 3inch turbo back exhaust with a muffler and then a cannon but it still sounds pretty loud. Ive heard that the limit is 90db but was wondering if they are flexible on this. do they test it at idle or do they rev it? Thanks
-
went throught the pits fine when it got complied.
-
yeah they reckon its too dark....

does anyone know if cops are allowed to check window tinting at night? just got a yellow sticker for my tint. wasnt even doing anything wrong, cops just pulled me over for no reason. why dont they do something useful instead of handing out bullshit defect notices like this. they didnt do shit the both times my house was broken into. USELESS F%$CKS!!!!!

yeah i agree with mirkz, theres heaps for sale here and at least u can see the condition of the car and drive it before u buy it. private sale prices here are pretty good (if not cheaper than importing) if u look around and are patient. i was originally going to import one in myself but ended up finding one here. autoworx seems pretty good though, thats where my car came from originally. the previous owner bought my car from there for over $20k, i bought it less than a year later for $16K. the guy at autoworx seems pretty honest, if i was going to import a vehicle id probly go through him. my last bit of advice is to look at plenty of cars before you buy, theres quite a few sh*tboxes around...
