R34 25GT brake upgrades
admS15 replied to DieselTime's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Or ls1[emoji3] -
No dsg, was a manual with a harsh clutch and he had no mechanical sympathy. So it wasn't surprising. He rebuilt it with cosworth parts and an fp turbo and is now pushing 400awkw.
-
A bloke I work with has an evo x. Was pushing close to 300 awkw on e85 on standard setup. It ended up throwing a rod. So, even the 4B11 does have rod issues at high torque/hp. In saying all that, he used to drive it like it was stolen. To wrap this up, evo's are bloody amazing but just like everything there is some limits that need to be worked around. I have heard of guys limiting torque to reduce the strain on the rods.

Turbos are shit, don't bother, Na is the best[emoji3]

No probs. You could also try spraying some wd40 or similar on the shaft of the flapper and open and close it quite a few times and see if that frees it up before you go pulling shit off. I use to have a turbo on an old car of mine that had a sticky gate and doing that would remedy it for a few months. Give it a shot, can't hurt. Good luck

You're going to have to determine why it's sticky. Most probably it is fouling the inside edge of the dump pipe. You will have to take the dump off to take a look and either dremel it for clearance or replace it with a bell mouth dump. The other possibility is the flapper mechanism itself is faulty and sliding in and out. Pull the dump, diagnose and then take action. Cheers.

C34 iron block rb Rust under mirrors Old Easy to mod Shit brakes Manual or 4spd crap auto C34 autech 260rs What's not to like, other than the eventual 10k rebuild when the 26 shits in your face. M35 turbo model Alloy vq25det neo Looks newer and classier Bigger cargo area due to rear strut tower arrangement Nice interior 5 spd crap auto only Noisy whiney turbo Shit brakes Bastard Ecu that governs everything and cuts your fun I have an M35. As long as your not trying to drive it like a race car it's fine. Start pushing it and the auto gives you the shits by ignoring you. Engine has good early torque, they make around 400nm. Takes off like a rocket with brake cut mod and 7 sec stall up. They are a good cruiser and I would recommend for that purpose. If you want to mod and go fast get a C34 with a neo, much more aftermarket support or buy a 260rs and start throwing $ into the pit[emoji3] Good luck.

It can be a Hg but you would want to investigate all other possibilities first as Hg is a pita to replace. Try the cap and let us know. Fingers crossed for you mate.

Damn, obviously everyone has jumped on them. -

Fantastic on track as everyone keeps saying. On the street in wet weather they are quite good but it's not like I try to go hard in the wet on the street. In my experience so far there hasn't been any unwanted wheelspin. They feel as good and possibly better than rsr and Achilles 123s in the wet and much better dry. When I called around for quotes, surprisingly bob Jane did the best pricing by far. -
DR30 transmission differences?
admS15 replied to JCubed's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Not really on topic but you could try some nulon smooth shift additive or replace oil with redline shockproof and see if it remedies the grind into reverse. Would save yourself a heap of work if it fixes it and also keep the spare box for down the track. Unless you've already tried this of course. -

Why not price up some Ad08R. There is a buy 3 get 1 free offer running atm and Bob Jane does some pretty sharp pricing. I bought a set in 265/35/18 and they where cheaper than RS3 and not too much more than RSRR in the same size. Food for thought. -
Well if it works fine with the boost controller unpowered then the issue definitely lies there. The thing is, if it's switched off, the lowest the boost can go is wastegate spring pressure and i would expect that to be between 5-7 psi. You said when it plays up your only getting 1 psi. Since you have an aftermarket split dump, i would definitely check the flapper opens and closes smoothly and doesn't get caught open. Some of the split dumps have a reputation for causing this. Wont take long to check and rule it out as a possibility if it's all good. Cheers.

Possibly wastegate is getting stuck open. That makes sense from what your describing. Disconnect the wastegate arm, operate the flapper by hand and check that it opens and closes freely. Is the dump pipe stock or aftermarket?

Bills 33 Gtst Streeter/track Car
admS15 replied to admS15's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Went to Winton on the weekend. It was the first time the 33 has been there and so far it hadn't been quicker than my S15. Saturday was the day that changed. Smashed my s15 time by 5.5 seconds. Yeah baby. My driving was not the best, was struggling to get the car pulled up and set it up for corner entries but im very happy with the overall time. There is definitely room for improvement with driving and car setup. -
Extreme clutch, na NPC all the way.

Just did a track day on AD08R. Would have to agree they are as awesome as everyone says they are. Warm up quickly and are consistent throughout the session, I set my fastest lap on the 9th flying lap. They are very progressive and communicate well. I felt like they where talking to me with the amount of squeeling they do. Lol. On the street they are quiet as a mouse, unlike the Achilles 123s they replaced and the previous federal rsr. They are also decent tyres and punch above their belt but the ad08 is on a different level altogether. The buy 3 get 1 free yokohama offer makes them reasonably priced atm as well. -

Im very keen to smash my Sandown pb. Any idea what this cheaper than usual rate will be? -
Overflow bottle full and no visible water in radiator. Try a new radiator cap as a quick fix and hope remedy. It sounds like the cap is letting the coolant go to the o/f and then engine is getting too hot. good luck and hope it's a simple fix.

Reliable daily/track car. Sounds like you should be looking for an R33. Us ship captains seem to be sweet sailing for the most part [emoji16] lol
