Bills 33 Gtst Streeter/track Car
admS15 replied to admS15's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Filter is clean. Apexi panel, I have also tested with a BMC and k and n I have laying around. Same result. There is something else going on with my car because I never had an issue with holding boost before with the stock airbox. I'm suspecting the upper intake manifold gasket which I haven't had time to replace yet. Obviously the pod filter does flow slightly better than and unmodified stock air box and therefore is allowing the turbo to hold boost better although there is a problem somewhere. I find the sound of the pod to be hideous and annoying. Air box is my preference, just gotta track down the source of my issue. -

Don't get me wrong about the federal rsrr, its a great tyre especially at its price point. I used to run them on my s15. The thing is they're more of a circuit tyre than drag. To get the absolute best possible time at the drag strip, a proper drag tyre is needed. Just food for thought. -
Maybe, coz racecar[emoji12]

The Dissapearing Water Trick- Rb26 Consuming Water.
admS15 replied to Mohsen's topic in General Maintenance
You may be right. The water has to go somewhere. Since you can't see an external leak and haven't mentioned milky oil, it sounds like its getting into a cylinder and being combusted. Any traces of white smoke coming out the back? Hopefully the pressure and comp test reveal something. Farken Nissan motors and their dissapearing coolant tricks. I've had the displeasure with dealing with a similar issue in the past. Good luck. Let us know if the testing reveals anything. -

I have no idea. Maybe start a new thread about tyres for drag. I don't think rsr's will be that great for drag either. Et streets should do OK. I would think you would need to get some cheap ford 15 or 16 inch steel wheels that fit and throw the widest drag tyre that fits on. Again I'm no expert, best to get info from guys that have been there and done that in a r33. -
Don't stress. Just put them in. They won't change anything. I suppose they have to make them sound superior somehow lol.

Car is looking good George. Parts list looks decent also. What exactly is an otr tune? -
I would be looking elsewhere for your smoking issues.

The compression results seem reasonable for the age of engine. The variation isn't drastic at all. Not sure what is causing your smoking issues. I take it the fc is running the apexi maps. You shouldn't be putting it under max load when its untuned, especially since it was registering such a high knock count.

Unfortunately for me, no brembos and the a1rm ain't really doing it for me, so when they wear out which shouldn't be too long I'm gonna take the plunge with the project mu's and put up with the horrible noise. -

So the million dollar question. What are you using now? I think you need the nismo pads[emoji41] -
We can debate this shit forever or your buddy can take the car to the drag strip and see what mph he traps and then if it checks out people here may become believers. My 2c bud.

I would be happy to have my car on an american dyno

Yep, taking off at the drag strip on street tyres is a pain. If you want to get a really good time, you really need to run proper tyres like mt's or hoosier and ideally on a 15" or 16" rim. That way you have some flex in the walls of the tyre. Soft rear shocks go a long way too. I still think you should easily get into the 12's on street rubber and possibly 11's on drag tyres -

Nothing positive. Chasing a boost leak ATM. The turbo isn't holding boost the way it used to in the top end anymore. It used to hold 17.5-18psi and is currently only holding 14-15psi. It will make full boost with a pod but not with the airbox back on. Used to be fine with airbox. I will be removing the upper intake manifold this weekend hopefully to replace that gasket and check all those little hoses down there. I will update with my findings. -

Good luck at the drags tonight. Hope you've practised those launches. Whats always worked well for me is working out what revs you need to take off without bog or too much wheel spin and then feeding (riding) the clutch to create boost, then launch that bitch and hope you got it all right. It's a bit of a balancing act but works well when your on street tyres. For example in my car I hold the revs at about 3 to 3.5k, start feeding that clutch in and as soon as I start hearing spool I steadily keep releasing the clutch while mashing the throttle to the floor. Usually results in a slingshot take off with a slight bit of wheel spin in 1st. If you get it wrong you will either bog or fry the tyres. You can also use the handbrake to help u remain stationary, if u do that though, just don't forget to release it once your going.
