  1. well, different forms of motorsport, for different tastes i guess. (i'm not going to argue the definition of "motorsport"). I don't see why people get worked up about it. If you don't like drift, just don't watch it. Why should you be worried about the perception of skyline drivers due to street drift? If your car is legal and you obey road rules you shouldn't have any trouble with police. Are track people jealous because drift seems to be "the big thing" at the moment? because really who cares, I was interested in drift before it became popular in Australia. And speaking from a drivers perspective, nothing much has changed - except there are more events. Just because I don't like V8 supercars doesn't mean I can't recognise that the sport requires a lot of skill, and I hope people don't have the perception of drift as "doing a burnout around a corner" which suggests it doesn't require skill!
  2. if your priority is to make your car last and be reliable. Keep it at STOCK boost. turbo timers are definantly worthwhile, but I wouldn't bother with a BOV unless you like rice mods.
  3. http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html ^ use this link to work out offsets
  4. i used brake cleaner when i cleaned mine. Though i've been told carby cleaner is better as it will also break down any carbon deposits (whilst brake cleaner won't)
  5. try RDA rotors. I paid $100 per rotor for r32 gts-t, which is a much better price than DBA, just ring them up direct, get a quote, and go to brakes plus or something and get them to match the price http://www.rdabrakes.com.au/
  6. has anyone been to Maxy's in Glenhuntly Road Elsternwick (just down from Elsternwick Station) If you like your meat bbq'd with heaps of bbq sauce, this is the place for you. Looks expensive, but most of the main courses will feed 2 people easily
  7. why don't you get some 17inch wheels athid, and use them. tyres are heaps cheaper also avoids damaging the VS-KF's on ripple strips / gutters
  8. for future reference... a very good wrecker for Nissan Imports is Oakleigh Mechanical Repairs 176 Kangaroo Rd Oakleigh 9568 4887 Speak to Paul
  9. a lot of people sometimes don't know when they have a mech diff, because a worn mech diff will act like an open diff when turning a corner at normal speeds It's funny, you sometimes can pick up diff housings from wreckers which they think are stock, and you get home and open them up and you have scored a nismo 2-way for like $100 If it really bothers you, PM me and I can organise a replacement stocker, If it's a mech can do cash adjustment. (does anyone know if gtr diffs are same as gts-t?) Speaking of anti-social around town, Try driving with a welded diff, and see what looks you get from pedestrians when you turn a corner at lights in a shopping strip!
  10. Have you considered doing an engine conversion and putting an Rb25det into your car You'll find that the rb20det has SFA low-end torque, and you can get a lot more power from an rb25 than you'll get out of the rb20. The mods will cost the same, (in fact cheaper as you don't need an AP engineering Power Fc ~$500-600 saving) anyway, having said that, some suggestions: - Get a fuel pump before anything. Your r32 fuel pump is ~15 years old and fuel pump failure can kill engines. - z32 afm - if you can afford it, why not get it all at once, you won't have to come back and re-tune the power fc after you install stage 3 either. - reliability mods - oil cooler, aftermarket radiator - handling mods - coilovers, suspension bits - wheels / tyres - looks and performance/handling - differential - brake upgrade what are you going to be using the car for? do you intend to drift / track days, or do you just want a fast car you can boot around on the streets? just keep in mind, a 200kw car with stock suspension, brakes and tyres/wheels is a recipe for disaster!
  11. yes, that's right. Not sure which wire though, the fuel pump wiring harness is in the boot, I think it's a 4-wire plug. At a guess i'd say it's the black one, because black is usually ground But i don't know for sure. There was an article on this, because it is a common problem (ecu cuts power to pump at traffic lights and car sometimes stalls). Try searching tech section or How-to's
  12. Actually, for drift, from my own experience, I've found that a wider wheel base makes the car a lot more stable, so there is an advantage here in going wide rims with low offsets. My car isn't exactly dumped on it's arse though, I still have 10cm clearance so it's legal height (with stock front bar) And [sPESHAL] just incase your interested, I had a go at putting some 18x10 -1 offset SSR gartmiers on my skyline, just to see how they looked. SK does have a very good point about DEFECTs it was scary stuff driving past a cop car with this. But as i said, I just wanted to see how they looked, they are stupid for road use... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y19/merli...12/IM000070.jpg http://photobucket.com/albums/y19/merlinda...nt=IM000081.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y19/merli...12/IM000091.jpg
  13. yeah, turn at low speed in circles, and see if you hear it chirp. Though, a worn mech diff won't do this!
  14. depends what you define as too hard. compared to some of the japanese brand coilovers, bilsteins are softer. in general japanese coilovers are much too hard for australian roads. But i guess you need to weigh up comfort factor vs performance i don't think bilstens are height adjustable though, and I think they will only lower it 20-30mm - though from what i've been told, any lower on a skyline and you start to mess up wheel alignment.
  15. are you sure you can get +7deg castor or more from off-centre bushes? Do you have wheel alignment specs from your test car? I had to wind out my castor rods a good 5cm or so to get +8deg castor on my R32, I always thought bushes could only give you +2-3 degrees or so.
  16. is castor adjustment kit, replacement tension rods? or replacement bushes with off-centre holes in them?
  17. rim size (eg 16" to 17") doesn't matter. WIDTH and OFFSET alone determine how much the wheel will stick out the guards. in victoria, spacers of any kind are illegal. (reglardless of if they are bolt-on or not) josh - I can't remember offset of standard r32 gts-t rims. but r32 gtr are 16 x 8 +30 not sure about gts- (they are 16x6.5 but don't know offset) in my experience 32 gtr fitted my gts-t rear ok, they fill the guards quite nicely. Rolling guards will help, but it really depends on how badly it scrubs / wheels stick out. here is a pic of my car with 18x10 +1 offset rims. I did this just to see how they would look, they are ok with guards rolled, but you can see how much it sticks out http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y19/merli...12/IM000091.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y19/merli...12/IM000069.jpg
  18. i have same problem, i just assumed the sender was f**ked because a lot of people report this problem, (and my engine hasn't died or anything!)
  19. your problem is due to rims with incorrect offset, you can roll your guards / flare them a bit, but if you don't want to do that, you'll have to sell those rims and buy them in correct offset. use: http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html to find out what offsets will work on your car. (enter stock rim width & offset to compare)
  20. im not selling them, they are the model numbers. goto www.garage-13.com and email alex if you want to order them, he'll get you prices. (can also get used rx7 injectors or whatever you want).
  21. they will fit, but the s13 coilovers are shorter, so basically the car get's dumped on it's arse. I wouldn't recommend using s13 coilovers. even with height on highest setting, is still pretty low.
  22. you don't need to use distilled water, tap water is fine. imo, any coolant will do, don't really see the difference between more expensive brands, and as long as your car doesn't overheat, then you're fine. (just read the label and make sure it's alright for your car)
  23. you shouldn't go back into first unless you are at a stop. You can double-clutch though and if you do it right, it will go into first very easily. an oil change won't "fix" this, though it's not really a problem - this happens with my gearbox aswell. if you want a good gearbox oil, I strongly recommend Redline MT90 for skyline boxes
