RB20DET skyline stock turbo
MerlinTheHapyPig replied to armbrecht's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
wouldn't recommend increasing boost without an aftermarket cooler, T25 turbo for rb20det go for about $300 but make sure you don't accidently buy one for an S13 as the flange is upside down. Most workshops charge about $300 to fit including gaskets etc. -
not sure if you'll need to change suspension to stock, i think you'll be ok. but if not I will be back in melbourne in a week and i might be able to give you a hand changing the suspension over (if you have the standard ones or can borrow them). it's a pretty easy job (3 bolts per corner) - you could probably do it yourself with fairly basic set of tools.

Hasn't arrived yet, currently in Brisbane awaiting customs clearance Go the 4 door!!!

if you have a bov, boost controller or a pod+aftermarket cooler you'll have to remove / revert to stock those are some other things epa will get narky on.

yeah, everyone get over it already! accident's happen it's a fact of life, and it's not always because someone is doing something stupid, given the breif explanation of the situation, I would say the abuse Tin-tin is copping is unwarranted, especially from forum moderators ffs!!! He posted this post asking for help, not asking to be abused! good luck with the repairs

it also has bigger brakes, and i think it's got digital climate control, and it has an adjustable front spoiler. there have been a few threads on this, but no-one has a definant answer. hard to tell, coz a lot of the stuff that was standard on the type m you could get as an option on the non-type-m

How long does it take to learn manual ?
MerlinTheHapyPig replied to skylinedrifter's topic in General Automotive Discussion
actually, learning to drive in an auto to begin with is quite useful. You can learn not to crash the car into stuff and learning about other cars around you without having to worry about changing gears/stalling I learnt in an auto coz my paren'ts dont own any manuals, and my first car was an auto. then i bought a mitsubishi cordia turbo as a project car, which didn't have a real great gearbox. so i was chucked in the deep-end with a gearbox/clutch that was a bit quirky. just remember to release the clutch slowly, and when feel the car starting to "pull" that's where the pressure point is. Just remember - clutch has to be in: - changing gears - when stopped / coming to a stop (ie less than 5km/hr) to move slowly (ie parking etc) just use the clutch without accelerator. You might need to use it a little. http://www.standardshift.com/faq.html - gives a basic explanation -
Query : Australian Road Laws ??
MerlinTheHapyPig replied to sx_iest's topic in General Automotive Discussion
in vic wheel sizes are can go additional 25mm wider can go additional 15mm in diameter (wheel + tyre). So you can increase wheel size by more than 15mm provided the tyre is smaller. If you have a GTS-t skyline for example, when you get it complied they will generally put the wheel/tyre specs for a GTR skyline because you could get them with 17s (using R32s as an example) -
well, my car is stuck waiting to be released from port in brisbane, and then it's on a truck and down to vic. unfortunantly it wont be here b4 xmas, but hopefully i'll have it before the end of the month - depending on how things go. If anyone is interested, here is what i've paid so far (my car was shipped on a container ship as RORO cargo - which was a bit more expensive than standard RORO). $4000 Cost of Car $ 200 Port Transfer Within Japan $1018 Shipping Japan->Brizzy $1186 Customs Duty & GST $ 308 Transport to Melbourne $ 660 Customs Fees, Quarantine charges, Other random fees etc. --------- $7372 =====

Query : Australian Road Laws ??
MerlinTheHapyPig replied to sx_iest's topic in General Automotive Discussion
bovs are illegal, because the cars emissions computer recognises the air going through the airflow meter, but because it is expelled into the atmosphere after the afm, it's not picked up, therefor the computer is adding too much fuel, which is bad for the environment!!! it also technically counts as an "emission" which doesn't pass through the catalytic convertor - even though it's just air! -
Tien HA's are pretty good. They are hard, but not as bad as some. I would suggest getting rubber boots installed to protect them from getting rooted by the aussie conditions. They really wern't designed for australia, and they will get fudged up with dust and stuff, especially if you decided to tackle a dirt road... They aren't as hard as say HKS hyper-d coilovers, but it really depends on what you define "hard"!! They are definantly ok for road use, ie they are not racing/track only suspenison

GTR Badges on GTST
MerlinTheHapyPig replied to Constantly_Incognito's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
evo's are 4G63 yeah i saw a "fake GTR" the other day. Saw it from behind, GTR badge, didn't catch a good look at the wheel guards, turned the corner, saw the R33 GTR badge on the front. hmm,, nice non-existant front mount intercooler!!! who knows why people do it, who really cares! I just laugh at people when i pull up beside them, and pretend not to look at me... hiding in shame... It's a shame, coz they probably badge the GTR badges from someone elses car... -
2. Restrictions include all V8's, Turbo/Supercharged and Modified cars --------- This is pretty silly, because some turbo cars aren't very powerful, whilst some N/A 6cyl cars are extremely powerful as an example: Mitsubishi Cordia GSR Turbo (AC) = 90kilowatts @ 1.06 tonne Ford Telstar TX5 Turbo = 87kw @ 1.117 tonne (4 cylinder turbos) or Porsche 911 GT3 RS = 280kw @ 1.36 tonne Honda NSX = 201kw @ 1.39 tonne (both 6 cylinder N/A) I think the approach Victoria has (restriction of 125kw/tonne) is a much fairer way of assessing this type of restriction.

RB25DET conversion in R32
MerlinTheHapyPig replied to CerealKiller's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
so, it would be easiest to keep the NEO computer so how do i connect up all the ancillaries such as sensors, climate control, steering, emissions crap to the R34 loom? has anyone here done this exact conversion? how did u go about wiring up the computer?
