  1. hmm, thinking of doing this conversion myself, as i have access to a very cheap R34 Neo Front Cut (i'll be selling the headlights + front bits for R34 headlight conversions later...) Just to clear a few questions up, i've searched around a bit, but need a definate answer on this. it's an R32 gtst 4 door manual rb20det I'm going to put in the NEO RB25DET Manual (but keep the RB20 gearbox) Would you have to use the NEO computer (because it has VVT) and wire up all the ancillaries to the NEO's loom? or can you use the RB20s computer & loom. Or would it be better to go aftermarket engine management?
  2. Kiwi Cars are good, as they offer shipping insurance as part of their standard fee However, you might have problems gettign a car booked on a ship at the moment, one of their main vessels is in overhaul and there are a lot of cars coming in at the moment.
  3. I think it's the same as selling an unregistered car, You would have to provide all the import paperwork (import approval etc.etc.) otherwise the person who buys it won't be able to register it.
  4. got an email today, mine is on a ship (i knew that already, but now i have proper confirmation) Hurrah!!! The ship is "The Hachinohe Bay" and it should be arriving on the 13th December. Now i gotta go resit my license test so i can drive a manual legally when it arrives
  5. Hehe, good point, I factored that in already - i just about break even, but there are a few variable costs that could change things either way. (difference in import duty for me is about $200) Im not too fussed, main importance for me is getting the car b4 x-mas.
  6. yeah, there seems to be no logical order in whose cars are getting on. I'll end up paying a bit more for shipping, but if i waited 2-3 months then i'd also have extra interest on the loan while i can't sell my current car. So it evens out for me. This way i get it before x-mas as well, so i'm happy. I wouldn't call it "jumping the line" everyone has the option of container shipping if they are prepared to pay more $$$
  7. My car should be landing in brisbane on 13th December. It has to be trucked down from brisbane, not sure what ship it's on though but it's being sent in a container rather than roll on roll off. My car had to be trucked within japan, they said it is about 16,000 yen - im yet to get an invoice though. Car was built in November 1989 I won't mention who im importing it through, but it's been a good effort to get it on a ship so quick - i feel sorry for everyone who is having trouble. (im bound to encounter another complication sooner or later though)
  8. i'd personally go for the GTR, (I hate WRX's coz they are notorious for understeer) and i think that's what most people are saying. Though i might add, if you ask the same question on a WRX forum, everyone will tel u to keep the rexy - so you might be gettign a biast opinion.
  9. Yes! It's not flammable, but it's still a compressed gas
  10. that's for the damper, you probably want it on softest setting - aussie roads ain't good for jap suspension. my set of hks coilovers are on the softest setting and they're still fugging uncomfortable. To adjust the hieght you'll need the tool. Jack the car up and take off the wheel, there should be a ring over the thread that u use to adjust the hieght. Turn this ring to adjust it with the tool (up = higher, down = lower)
  11. yeah, in vic, most of the cameras off at the moment. i swear i've driven over westgate bridge at over 80 enough times that i should have been done by now. same goes for citylink
  12. it sounds like your turbo is blown - black smoke is a sign of this what happened to me, is that you'd drive the car for a bit, and when you come to a stop, heaps of black smoke will come out the back (like engulfing the car - looks quite funny at a set of lights). It would still boost a bit but i never tried going over 3000rpm. (this was in a 180sx) what sort of car is it?
  13. using the average speed, going down a hill at 125 for half a minute isn't gonna bump your average speed over 110 over a decent distance/time period. - so in this case, the system is fairer than standard speed cameras/laser. Why doesn't everyone just drive at (or below) the posted speed limit? It's not very hard to drive on the speed limit without cruise control and also keep an eye on the road, im sick of people who use that excuse. - I use cruise control most of the time on hwy driving, but sometimes i don't and never have any trouble keeping it on 100/110 - if i go down a hill and speed up, i brake / change gears. If you speed on purpose, you should accept the consequences of breaking the law - and dont whinge about it Stricter speed enforcement may or may not reduce the road toll, but that's another debate
  14. i think it's worth giving them a call now and then to make sure they have received it (then u get a reference number). Just to make sure it hasn't gotten lost. I called them and they told me that the copy of my ID hadn't come through the fax right and they sent me a fax about it a few days ago. It actually went to j-spec because i had nominated them as my agent - (nice of them to tell me about it!!! but oh well) Oh another thing, when i spoke to dotars, i mentioned that the money had come out of my credit card, and they said that that doesn't necessarily mean your approval is in the mail. If there is a problem, they'll take the $$$ out regardless.
  15. 1989 Nissan Skyline 4 door GTS-t under 15 year rule 20 day turnaround
  16. Well, I put mine through on the 25th last month, and got it today - that's a 20 day turnaround which is exactly how long they said it would take. I would be happy - however i have sweet F.A chance of getting it on a ship any time soon!
  17. the brakes are bigger it's got a front active spoiler i think it came with different wheels it has an LSD leather steering wheel better seat trim etc. it possibly had the digital climate control rather than the analog one the non-mspec ones might not have came with a spoiler, but who knows - most people either remove the gtst spoiler or put a GTR one on. most of the typem goodies you could get as an option anyway though - and most people have changed around rims, steering wheel, etc. by now anyway
  18. oops, that's what i meant! aftermarket FMIC check this link out: http://members.austarmetro.com.au/~toan/EPAData/
  19. in victoria, epa rules state only 1 intake mod (is the epa a state authority or a federal auth?) Ie you can't have a FMIC and an unboxed pod filter. the reason they do this, is because too many intake mods will affect the emmisions control systems. (eg if you add an intercooler the air will be cooler and more dense than the computer thinks it is) in vic - unboxed pod filters are ok, provided they are unoiled and provided it's an EFI car.
  20. hey, that's cool, if you're doing 200km/hr the highest speed you could get done for would be 130km/hr (provided they don't put in a speed limiter) u still loose your licence, but u don't go to jail!!!
  21. well, most '80s and earlier model cars released in australia didnt' have side intrusion bars in the doors. My mums ford laser doesn't, my GSR Cordia doesn't - it's a safety thing obviously, but i can understand why some people might want to skimp on them. while on the topic of side intrusion bars, do 4 door cars such as the 4dr R32 skyline that i have coming over - do the rear doors need them aswell as the fronts?
  22. i checked my credit card account today, and $50 has been deducted on the 1st Oct (about 6 days after i sent mine off) Does that mean that they have processed it or what?
  23. yeah, i think there is definantly a need for a tutorial for this swap, as lots of people have done it, and there isnt' much info on the forum about it. (I will be doing the swap myself, but not for some time (the car isnt' even in australia yet!!!) and when I do, i'll take lots of pictures and try to put together a tutorial.)
  24. i beilieve you'll have problems using the R33 wiring loom with all of the R32 ancillaries - i don't know for sure coz i haven't done the swap b4, but most people keep the R32 loom and re-wire it into the R33 ECU. Re-wiring the R32 loom is the hardest thing - you might want to employ an autoelectrician that has done it before rather than stuffing around yourself. There have been a few topics covering this sorta swap, and a few people have done it b4, (i hate to sound like a whingy dickhead by saying this - but do a search and see what u come up with!!)
