  1. Finally after a long time I've had a chance to post some updates on my Nismo R32's restoration slash build. We hit some major milestones including a first test fit of the new Nismo motor in the car. The interior and suspension are also coming together now. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going and the car will be ready for final assembly and tuning within the next couple of months As before, more details and pics are on my blog which got a new, easier to remember web address – 23GT.net - since my last update: http://www.23gt.net/2016/05/progress-bar-r32-part-11-it-wont-be.html
  2. I've thought of that as a back-up plan but of course I thought I'd try and exhaust all possibilities at finding an original replacement first. I figure I can just make one with sticker paper and my Epson photo printer that has weatherproof DuraBrite ink but it would help to have a good scan. I got a pic from a friend's car that I can Photoshop but a scan would be better so if anyone knows where I can find one that would help me out too. That's the big reason why I'm spending the money to restore my Nismo R32 now. It's going to be harder and harder to get parts for these cars especially with the American market snapping them up. That's just insane but I've thought about picking up the Snap-On tool kit for my R35 for future collectors value as well - the dang thing is just so stupidly overpriced I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I may have to do it sooner rather than later after seeing that eBay auction lol.
  3. Thanks but I saw that thread before and that's where I got the part number 99090-05U15 from. Unfortunately I already tried both Amayama and JPcarparts with the part number and they said it's discontinued. Since a couple of people there mentioned getting them recently I was wondering if there was a shop in Oz that had them.
  4. My R32 GT-R got a respray here in the US to bring it back to looking factory fresh but in the process the painters accidentally stripped off the top layer of the factory tire placard on my B-pillar so I've got a white area there now that sticks out like a sore thumb. I tried ordering one from Japan with the part number but I've been told they're no longer available. I thought I saw some people here who managed to get one from there in Australia so I was hoping for some help tracking one down. Anyone have one they can sell to me or know a place that does? Thanks in advance for any help.
  5. For some reason quotes don't seem to be working for me right now but to answer the posts above: - The guys who founded the Skyline Syndicate group are pretty much all West Coasters so that dictated the choice of venue. I agree a more central place like COTA would be nice but of course how this first one works out will have to be seen first. - B-Turbo, is there something specific you want to ask the organizers? I'm not one of the event organizers but I am part of the FB group so I can try asking for you.
  6. Sorry for the delay in replying but I've been out of town. If you could make it the GTS-T would be perfectly welcome. The event is for all Skylines as well as GT-Rs. The economy's been pretty healthy (2015 was the highest in history for car sales overall) and R32 prices have steadily risen. If anyone doubts the enthusiasm of the US market for Skylines and GT-Rs, a pristine 1989 that wasn't special other than its low miles sold about 2 months ago at the RM Auctions for $82K USD. Regular R32s GT-Rs are still trading in the $20K range so prices are still crazy. It remains to be seen if that'll settle down as later cars become eligible. It should but Americans obviously love Skylines. I'm coming from Arizona so I've got an even longer drive lol.
  7. I'll try to post some up once it comes around. Right now my biggest concern is getting my Nismo R32 all buttoned up in time for it. Of course, when we get that done the big question is which GT-R I'm going to take. Good problem to have I guess lol.
  8. Just wanted to share the info to my fellow American Skyline and GT-R owners: Skyline Syndicate, a small group of devoted enthusiasts is organizing the first ever R's Day at historic Laguna Seca on November 26! More details to come: https://www.facebook.com/groups/966811440038128/ 23GT: Mark Your Calendars: R's Day Is Coming!
  9. Thanks for the comments! Lots of people here in the States are glad we can finally get these cars - even though a lot of us are still frustrated we have to wait for the R34s some more lol. The car should almost certainly be done by Novemberbarring something truly crazy like the zombie apocalypse but Yuma, Arizona is far from all the tourist-worthy places in the US, if by chance you're in the desert southwest though feel free to PM me The car's just going to get occasional use since I've got others for DD and trackday use plus I'm not into drag-racing so that should help the gearbox's longevity. Nevertheless whenever it gets done we'll tune it conservatively for reliability. If all else fails and I break it I'll probably consider a Getrag conversion then if I have the budget lol.
  10. So, this won't be a normal update with notes on what's been done to the car since the last time I posted, instead I figured it was time to post the (almost) final parts list for the build: LONGBLOCK - Nismo Fine Spec Final Edition RB26DETT #96 of 200 SUPPORTING ENGINE COMPONENTS: ProEFI 128 ECU with CAN display and logger Nismo GT intake plenum Wiring Specialties R34 coil conversion kit Billet Performance fuel rail Bosch 1000cc fuel injectors Turbosmart fuel pressure regulator Denso Nissan Quest alternator for increased output (120A versus 80A stock) Nismo fuel pump Greddy oil filter relocator and oil cooler (already on car from before) new R34 cam angle sensor Nismo reinforced motor mounts Koyorad radiator (already installed before) Nismo radiator cap New hoses HICAS delete with conversion to R33 single-stage PS pump (already on car) New OEM oil dip stick (baller!) 11. Thanks for chiming in. I saw your thread before and that's partly why I got the Nismo LSD since like you I couldn't find a better alternative that was available to someone in the US. I'm waiting to see what my friend finds when he dives into the swap but yeah it's amazing how many sizes of shim Nissan lists for the LSD lol.
  12. Always liked the Cube. My friends and I were amused by the two I rented before. The motor's not so amusing going through the mountains with a full load of friends including one with "ample" proportions but it was super easy to drive otherwise lol.
  13. Well, it took longer for me to get around to posting an update on my build because of the holidays and then getting a wee bit sick but now I've kind of gotten caught up. To quickly recap what's happened since my last update: The old motor is now out and the engine bay is fully stripped in preparation for new paint. The rear part of the cabin has been fully restored with the back seat in place again but now with snazzy new Nismo seat covers and new trim panels, parcel shelf, and rear speakers in place. A crapload of parts have arrived although we're still waiting for some major pieces like the turbo kit. Although my wallet's been critically ill for a while now because of all the purchases I'm finally starting to see the end as far as big orders – too bad it's only because I've bought so much stuff already that I've hardly got anything left to buy lol. Here's some pics but of course if you want to see more and get further details I've posted a full update on my blog: http://23gt.blogspot.com/2016/01/progress-bar-r32-part-8-add-and-subtract.html
  14. Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up getting a Nismo LSD. Although the Quaife is the better unit for road course no one carries it here in the US and at over twice the price of the Nismo I couldn't justify it anyway since my R32 will mainly be a weekend/show car and will probably only see the track on a very rare occasion. Either way, I figured if the Nismo was good enough for their JGTC cars then it'll do fine in my R32 lol.
  15. Thanks for all the reassuring responses guys. To update on my situation, I never did get a response to my emails from Kudos but on the good side I did end up receiving my earlier order from them a few days ago. Because of that I went ahead and placed an order on their website for a couple of other parts I need but some other stuff that they could probably have sourced but aren't listed on their website I'm going to have to get elsewhere since I can't get through to them. Hopefully that situation improves soon because they used to respond so fast to emails.
  16. Is there something up with Kudos Motorsports right now? I've ordered from them in the past and they used to respond to emails super fast but I've sent them five emails over the past 3 weeks and got a reply to just one. I know they probably closed for the holidays but even before then I wasn't getting replies. I would have assumed they would be open again come this past Monday but still no replies. I'm in the US so I can't just pick up the phone and call. Over a month ago I placed an order for about US$1500 in parts and they said they'd get back to me on the status two weeks ago but that was the last I heard from them. I still need to order some wheel bearings and other stuff but don't want to do so if I can't even get in touch with them about my existing order. I know their website was on the fritz for a while but not it seems fine so I'm wondering what gives now. I had thought highly enough about Kudos that I recommended them as a parts source for US owners on my blog. I hope I don't have to retract that recommendation and they get back to me soon. So has anyone been in touch lately with Kudos?
  17. Thanks for the info! I'm not sure my budget has room for a front diff upgrade currently but I'm definitely considering it.
  18. Now that we've gotten in the extended oil sump for the new RB26 that's going into my R32 I'm trying to figure out what parts we'll need to swap the front diff to the new pan. Can anyone tell me if there's a rebuild kit or install kit for the RB26 front diff and where to get them? Thanks in advance for your help.
  19. I put in just enough to hopefully take some of the edge off but nowhere near enough to make it anesthetic like a Lexus lol. The amount I put in is nowhere near as bad as most people and only used a bunch on the floorpan to help make up for the nasty jute that got tossed with the old carpet. I've only used about half the box of Roadkill so far and will only add a small amount to the doors and that's it. I think she'll still be fairly gnarly when all's said and done
  20. It's been a long time since my last update and I wish I could say my R32 is running again and belting out obscene amounts of horsepower but unfortunately that's not the case. It is doing a damn fine job imitating a paperweight though. In any case progress is being made while I wait on more parts for my engine build. The biggest highlights are: Put sound deadener in the car and installed new carpet. Brakes have been removed for rebuild and refinishing. Removed the dash so it can be re-covered. Replaced the front fender liners that the previous owner had butchered with a bunch of openings. Gotta have them speed holes baby! Installed new Nismo seat covers to get the seats ready for re-install. Well, mostly – I still have to do the driver's seat 'cause the Nismo covers are maddeningly fiddly to install. In the coming weeks my friend Dan will be pulling the tired old motor out and then we'll finalize the parts list for the engine build. It's going to be a nice little selection of parts I must say Some pics: As usual I have more details and pics on my blog: http://23gt.blogspot.com/2015/11/progress-bar-r32-part-7-baby-steps.html
  21. Thanks for confirming that just a repin is needed for the CAS. Makes sense I would need a 32 PFC with my 32 harness - I wasn't sure if the motor dictated the choice but in retrospect I should have thought the ECU and harness would matter more. As for the ignitor mine was shot so we ended up binning it already and converting to an R34 setup anyway so that should all be good. Thanks for the help!
  22. I already read that post before and unfortunately it didn't answer the specific questions I posted. It mentions a "wiring mod" to fit the R34 CAS but doesn't describe what that mod is. It also mentions you need either an R34 ECU or a PowerFC but it doesn't say whether you need to keep the original R32 ECU wired in if you run a PowerFC.
  23. Hello everyone. My friend's shop is getting ready to pull the old broken RB26 from my R32 and swap in a new Nismo RB26. Now, the RB I got is R34-spec rather than R32 spec so I know some changes will need to be made. We already know about swapping the front diff but had a couple of other questions I was hoping someone could help with. 1) What's needed to make the harness compatible with the R34 cam angle sensor? I have a new R34 CAS already but I was wondering if the plug on the car just needs a repin or a new plug needs to be wired in. 2) I'll probably be getting an Apexi Power FC to handle the ECU side. Do I assume correctly I need to get the R34 PowerFC and not the R32 version? I haven't dealt with an aftermarket ECU system before on a car (just reflashes) so does the R32 ECU stay with the car or can it be disconnected and binned if I use a PowerFC? Any suggestions on other ECU setups to consider as an alternative? Thanks in advance for your replies.
  24. Just wanted to update this thread and say thanks to KiwiRS4T for being so helpful. I got in touch with Racefab and will be ordering an extended sump from them so I can run the Tomei pump.
  25. The SR20 was never offered here from the factory either so any cars with them are swaps. The 240SX here came with the KA24 which is basically a truck engine lol. There are lots of shops that can suss out both the SR and RB but very few that can really be said to specialize in them. There's plenty of SR and RB swapped cars here but compared to the huge number of cars with factory powerplants - VG, VQ, VR, etc - they're a very small fraction so most shops specialize in the more common ones and do the oddball imports on the side.
