Sydneykid, thankyou for the fast reply.... Whats the limp home mode? and whats a consult reader? I havent really touched under the bonnet in awhile only to change the plugs and clean the AFM with a electrical contact cleaner? but it was all pluged back in. The only thing i have noticed was the plugs that plug into the coil packs ( the yellow plastic holders inside that hold the 3 wires have started to crumble ) Could this possibly cause any of the problems? I just dont understand the reason when u accelerate it seems fine and quick but yet no rich puff of black smoke ever.... i've never had any of that even when i bought the car 9mnths ago? To SAU'ers, I NEED HELP DESPERATELY???? *My car when i try to start my car it wont start, turn ignition but no turning over try again and it might start or otherwise turn turbo timer off and it might start?,when it does start it sounds like its on 3cyls.... barely turning over for like 6secs, then it will fire up and idle at 1000rpm like normal. (Battery tested 100% ok and is only 4mnths old, and Alternator charges perfect too). *When idling it sounds like it hunts / stutters/ misses? idle alil erratic (drops maybe from 700 to 650 then back to 700) *It uses alot of fuel, i dont know how much per kilometre but to drive from mtgravatt to the city and back uses nearly half a tank. *When accelerating the car doesnt blow any black smoke out the back of the exhaust like alot of skylines i've seen, but when u take ur foot off the accelerator to slow down or change gear. The car backfires / pops alot and blipping the throttle can make it backfire / pop aswell. *The hicas light started flicking on and off like 2times a day and it killed the power to my headunit aswell when it happens. This has caused the car to stall twice aswell but thought maybe it was to do with my amp/sub install so i disconnected the wiring etc and waiting to see if it happens again. My Car Specs 1989 R32 GTST Coupe 6 x New NGK Iridiums (for standard boost) HKS Turbo Timer (came with car from japan) HKS Pod Filter Autometre BOOST gauge (Mechanical) Standard BOOST (spikes to 10/11psi) Standard BOV Standard Sidemount intercooler BEE-R Catback Exhaust Hiflow Cat Standard Dump etc ANY HELP IS VERY APPRECIATED QLD SAUER [ BOOSTA ] aka PETE

Hey guys Thanks for the replies regarding the issues I have, I'll be stopping into ABS at springwood probably on the 29th to get the clutch done and then maybe try and get dan to have a look at it sometime as I really have heard great things about his work.... I have no idea how to do a fuel flow/pressure test on the pump? Im not very mechanically minded (plus lack of tools doesnt help).... Thanks Guys BOOSTA (Pete)

Hi guys, I was wondering where in brisbane prefer south side of brissy I can take my r32 gtst to get a few small issues and installs done without being screwed over with high $$ prices or dodgy work. Im currently in the process of sorting out my plan of mods for my R32 GTST... Its pretty stock except for 3" hiflow cat and bee R exhaust (standard dump and engine pipe, standard boost, bov and sidemount intercooler and ecu) Its currently running like crap (popping, backfiring after acceleration, but not missing and lacking power) so i need someone to take a looksie at it and sort out what the hell is going wrong. It also needs a new clutch,a basic HD clutch or something to handle 200 -220rwkw's to be installed. Once the car has a good basic setup to start with.. I just dont want to be treated badly or laughed at because my car isnt a big HP car with $$$ spent on it.. I've budgeted around $1500 for the clutch supply & install and diagnosing the problem, do you think thats a realistic figure? I'm thinking possibly the fuel pump is dying? i dont really know alot about how to diagnose issues.. So Thanks for any info offered Cheers BOOSTA (Pete)

Hey Guys n Gals I currently have a R32 GTST with Rb20det Standard Plum Back Bov Standard Boost (spikes at 10psi) Standard Side Mount Intercooler Standard Fuel System etc HKS spark plugs (came with car from dealer so havent changed em yet) 3"inch Bee R catback exhaust & MetalCat Hiflo Catalytic Convertor Standard Dump and Engine Pipe I've had the car 6mnths and as of 2 weeks ago it has been popping, backfiring alot and is starting to lack power. The car always pops and splutters after you take your foot off the accelerator, during gear changes etc and I am absolutely blank to what the problem is??? The car never misses when accelerating, it doesnt blow any smoke from the exhaust under WOT at all. Im only a 2nd yr apprentice mechanic and dont have much knowledge in how to diagnose problems like this.... Any information or help about how to diagnose what problem the car has would be greatly appreciated as its not a great hp car or anything its just my pride and joy... Thanks azzurra is there anywhere in specific to T into the line? and if i do what sort of numbers should i be looking at as ok? The fuel pump im guessing will probably be standard like the rest of the car aswell. Thanks for your input!

Hey guys, I've searched through various posts to try and find a solution but im just not sure if any of the other posts have the same problem. I currently have a 1989 R32 gtst Rb20det 3" hiflo cat and bee-r exhaust system (standard dump pipe) HKS pod filter Standard Bov HKS spark plugs (havent changed since buying car as in good condition) Standard Intercooler Standard BOOST 9psi (spikes 10-11) Since buying the car 5mnths ago it has been fine but for the last 2 weeks the car has been excessively backfiring,popping all over the place ( during gear changes, only when i come off throttle). Its not missing during any part of the rev range but when i start the car its very lumpy, like barely wants to start running but then speeds up and idles fine. It seems to be starting to lack power under full throttle and im abit worried about if it might be leaning out but i dont know how to check to see if it is. Could it be a airleak at the exhaust manifold or standard dump pipe? The heat shield over the standard dump pipe is getting pretty rusted so im wondering if removing it will cause any issues with heat? Someone drove beside me the other day after following me up a hill and asked if my car was leaning out? They did say i wasnt blowing any black smoke under full throttle etc and getting pops/backfires everytime i change gears or just release the throttle? Im only a 2/3yr apprentice mechanic for kmart tyre and auto and I dont have the amount of $$ to get it on a dyno so was wondering if theres any way i can check stuff to see if certain things are working ok? my clutch is starting to slip alil so i have to save for that aswell so if anyone can help with any idea's or ways to help try and sort out whats going on would be greatly appreciated. I used to work for the Shell mechanical garages, and we had proper carbon cleaning machines that use high pressure and a special wynns product called "CARBON BLASTER". The results of b4 and after were massive, wish i had pictures of all the carbon buildup that actually comes out when the machine sucks all the old crap out. Not entirely sure how the machine actually works, but the results from actually getting ur engine properly cleaned with a specialist machine vs just a can of carby cleaner, throttle body cleaner etc is 2 different leagues. Im not sure on whether u should get it done but we have done it from hsv's to bmw's but only if we thought the car would really benefit from it. From memory it cost $120 - 150 depending on quantity of product used and takes 30mins - 1hr to do. Ask around and see if your mechanic actually has a proper carbon cleaning machine. not a can of carby cleaner! Cheers Pete (BOOSTA)

Take it to a plastic interior repairer, he'll have it plastic welded back together in no time.... my cracks were huge on my GTR front bar and it was fixed perfect!! U cant even see where the repair work was done. Plus they will prime it was plastic primer so it'll be ready to paint again!

Hey guys n gurls I have a set of Apexi N1 Coilovers on my R32 gtst that came with the car from Japan and the rear and front right hand shocks seems to be knocking and leaking , I quite like them plus being a apprentice mechanic means i cant just replace em, Does anyone know any places to get coilovers (re-valved , re-built , fixed ) and who wont charge a small 3rd world country for it. Hmmm I think they bagged out my R32 gtst ( the silver one with the wheel flares ) I have removed them but now i just feel like my car sucks I cant help it if i dont have heaps of cash to get a flashy kit. GOD DAMNNN..... That looks sooo tuff and very smooth! Wish my car looked that awesome but i dont have that much money. I am just hoping to find some standard 32 gtst sideskirts or maybe even a simple aftermarket job, aslong as it fits properly!!!!!!! I just want mine nice and simple looking as I think the standard lines look tough and smooth enough, maybe remove my rear wing and get some 33 GTST wheels, I have apexi N1 coilovers already just need to get nice cheapish wheels and get the car looking smart b4 i start making it go abit better. Sad thing is i have Cash ready to buy some but just cant find any in QLD and i dont wanna pay $400+ for aftermarket skirts as being a mechanic apprentice just doesnt pay that good !!!! Ps...
