Importing Or Buying Already Landed
AlexCim replied to fly510's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I updated my post and fixed the link, was missing the "l" at the end of html. Also, a note with M35 Stageas. There is currently, to the best of my knowledge, nowhere to comply them in Australia. If you want to bring it in and give it to a shop as their test car for compliance, it will be free compliance but expect the process to take between 6 to 18 months. -
Importing Or Buying Already Landed

I dont really think its fair to say that you will get a better car for less. For example, SEVS require you to have a pretty much stock Stagea for complaince, hence, it wont be "much better". Sure it will have some bolt on mods, but nothing more than whats for sale locally. Additionally, there is nothing like talking to the seller, someone who actually knows the history. I guess in the end it comes down to the person that is selling their car. For example, I will be putting my car up for sale as soon as I get my 200+awkw tune, just awaiting my DFA back from SK. To give you an idea of what 20k buys you locally, check out http://ebay.clearbridge.com.au/lachlan.html Id say thats far better than any importable Stagea, specially with all the extra cash spent on it. And as I said before, you can talk to the seller and ask all the details (such as what ive listed with what oils i used, how regularly I service, what driving history of the car is etc etc etc) I've imported two cars before, but chose to buy my Stagea locally. For me, it was more a case of "I want it now/need it now" and didnt want to wait. I now want an S13 pig to drift and thrash around, and for that purpose I am really considering importing as local sellers want too much, but for something that has to go SEVS's, I can honestly say there isnt much in it. -
does not damage the auto at all no, better for it infact as there is less slip = heat = death.

Wrecked Stagea For Sale In Herald Sun
AlexCim replied to oxford1327's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I have sent you a PM about buying the wreck. It is pretty clear what my budget for buying a wreck is, plus I'd have to pick it up from Canberra. A lot of people these days try to sell wrecks for too much IMO, but the person wrecking it still has to make some money for doing it, and like $750-$1000 doesnt make a few weekends worth of work + time to sell the parts worth it really. Anyway, let me know. -
I went the stage 2 It involved the pluging of some pistons, removal of some springs too.

8-9K, dont think so The big things, Motor/Box/Ecu/Loom - 3k if you are lucky Interior (seats and door trims) - 1k if lucky Each door with glass - $400 each if lucky Not much more after that that would sell in any respectable time. Like, who wants a stagea fuel tank? This kinda makes it not a great stripper. But as you said it would be a decent fixer for a 34 front -
Someone wanna chop an S1 and S2 front onto an R34 for me please? Think it would look pretty cool. Wonder if it can/has been done.

A crushed strut tower? Wont be easy to come about the parts. As far as repairing it, put it this way. 4.5k for the car + strut tower panels + picking the welds, removing old one, installing new one + front lights + grill, front bar + one quater panel + painting + front bar reo + bonnet + radiator support + fix front door + door hinges + airbags + one of the door trims is broken + windscreen + the time of f**king around to get it all fixed + upper control arms + lower control arms + brake disk + front hub + shock absorber + strut brace + intercooler + pipes = just spent another 5-6-7k on it. So thats a 11-12,000$ car right there. Then you will struggle to sell it for much over 15k. Not really worth the f**k about and 3-5 months of repairing the thing to make 3k...or in my case 3k divided by 2 people. And thats just the damage that I picked up on in the 10-15 minutes I was there looking over the car, I didnt have it on a hoist or anything to look underneath. -

I went and saw that Series 2 yesterday night. The guy wants 4.7-5.5 for it, I dont really want to pay over 2k but offered 3k for it. He is reluctant because it is uninsured and any money out of his pocket is money lost (no insurance). From a stripping point of view, its 100% not worth it if it costs me over 3k. -
Shit yeah, ive towed over 1.5t with my car Had a pull off against a 80 series turbo diesel landcruiser with work....stagea came out on top.

I use 10-60 in my RB25. Castrol oils are the best around

Boost Controller/turbo Timer/engine Management In One?
AlexCim replied to loymclure's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
All in one, no but boost and engine management can be controlled in 1, PFC with BC kit. However...forget that idea. -
Post A Pic Of Your Stagea Thread

I just use the space saver I get a flat. Working under the notion that not too many KM's with it on should be OK. On another note, how would the space saver affect the ATESSA with the notion that the Stagea has open diffs front and rear... -
They are not rated at all, but Max thinks they will be able to take 2T. From experiance, i've towed about 1.7T
-
Impressive graph, good midrange. I am sure he sacrificed some top end for the midrange, but thats a very very streetable tune and favorable to the extra kg's of the Stagea /good to meet you today

Sorry, assumed by the fact that you had a series 8 front bar that it was a series 8. You CAN get extra charges put on you in court, its just much much more difficult for the police officers to do that. Thats why when you get booked you cop as many charges as possible and 1/2 or more get dropped, thats the easiest way for the coppers.

Instant membership ban on members who attend Noble Park/Princess. Great idea... NOT How about just ask these people to remove stickers/club affiliation from their cars. Why does everyone on SAU think they are angels....
-
But you see, if the coppers wanted to they could raise a whole new issue. 1. Your number plate is cut 2. You car is a post-1996 model car with an aftermarket front bar. According to VicRoads, cars manufactured post 1996 are NOT allowed to have aftermarket body kits as the kits change the crash dynamics of the cars, specifically pedestrian impacts. I am not sure if you would win either as the number plate is mounted on angle off the perpendicular to the vehicle travel direction. Cops could argue that this causes issues with reading the numberplate off the 45 degree angle. (I will search for the body kit regulations, but found them a long long time ago) Either way, if its licence loss, give it a go.

The instructions are some hand written lines of script, pretty much like "Remove rear bar, install tow bar, hook up lights, replace rear bar" with a hand drawn diagram... Cost me about $300 to install it at a workshop, not specialized in tow bars.

Tried to fit it myself but slight grinding and drilling required. Did not have tools at the time so got it fitted somewhere else. Overall, nothing major and if i had had a grinder/right tools at the time, I could have done it. Afterall, we are all but mere mortals.

Chernobyl did not melt down because it was a random situation where the backup power was needed after an emergency, rather plant operators were conducting a test on the back up generators to make sure they were able to activate in time to support the plant (as previously they were not able to) During the test, plant operators performed several specific actions that compounded to cause the meltdown of the plant. My earlier reference to 80's Russia was specifically that many of the operators of the plant were not even trained in nuclear stations, safety procedures/features were ignored/turned off during the test, limits were pushed to impress visiting governement officials, etc. Coming from an ex-communisnt eastern european country, its still even evident these days when returning on visits that this mentality is around. Now lets think about Nuclear power in Australia: * Properly trained plant management * Safety procedures stuck to like shit to a blanket * No need to impress anyone here, everything is done within limits * Highest quality materials used in manufacturing of plant * Best materials/supplies used for the running of the plant * List goes on So uh, yeh. Nuclear power FTW

Here is some information on energy/water etc ENSO, aka, El Nino Southern Oscilation - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ENSO Nuclear Power Plant - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power_plant Delsalination plants - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desalination_plant As you can see, getting water simply from NZ as mentioned above is not that easy, as the ENSO affects pretty much the entire west pacific, including NZ. As far as industry using the most water we have available, I agree. But think of it this way. Businesses need to use water to continue to operate. Operation means they make a profit. This profit it paid to employees as salaries. A restriction on water use for many businesses could mean a need to cut costs as they do not have the same output. The best cut in costs is the replacement of people you need to pay, with robots you buy once. This means an increase in the umemployement rate, increase in people on the dole, decrease in living standards for many, angry voters, etc etc etc The best idea for water management is not desalination, as desalination is the most "oh, no shit thats a good idea" solution but is VERY energy expensive. The recycling of water is the best solution. I hate hearing that poeople say they dont want to wash their cars at commercial car washes because they use recycled water, but trust me when I say this, it is VERY clean water, in many cases more than tap water. Business wont jeapordize themselves using poor quality water. Seriously. Its like macca's using the lowest quality ingredients, they simply dont. Recycling water is the best because most of the water used isnt even polluted. Think about taking a shower, of the 11L you use a minute, how much is dirty/full of chemicals etc. Even after a shower, its still very clean water. As far as the person who said that desal plants produce greenhouse gasses, sorry, I dont understand where in the process they do as they pretty much involve the pushing of pressuized water through membranes that filter the water, how does that make greenhouse gasses? Maybe via the use of a lot of energy? Well, that would be solved via the use of Nuclear power. But you think Nuclear power is bad? Think about it. Its the best solution we have at the moment, and specially in a place like Aus with its crapload of uranium, why WOULDNT we do it. There is a slight risk with meltdowns etc, but this isnt late 80's Russia where you were always out to impress someone. Chernobyl melted down because of beauocracy, not because of Nuclear Power. Nuclear waste is easy to dispose of. Dig a hole, put it in. Sorry but I see this as a MUCH better alternative to the tons and tons of gas being let off in the air with carbon based power generation. Yeah, solar panels sound like a great idea, but mate do you know how inefficient they are. Its something like the best panels in the world convert 16 or 20% of the solar energy into electricity. Not to mention they are also HELL enpensive. For example, on eBay, for some solar panels, its $4,000 for ~500W of electricty (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/6x-85W-Suntech-Solar-Panel-12V-Huge-510W-System_W0QQitemZ330071867355QQihZ014QQcategoryZ78859QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). So that means that my $4000 worth of solar panels will light up about 6-10 incandecent globes in my house? Not to mention, I use the electricity at night, meaning I need to pay for the batteries to store all this energy (PS. Big batteries are not cheap). In my view, the future of energy generation for the short term is Nuclear Power, with Wind generated power being the most feasable. Specially off shore wind farms built on islands in the pacific or something like that. Interesting read -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power
