-Thanks, by flow control do you mean something like a needle valve? I'm trying to set it up in a way so that once set, the flow (and therefore the speed of the cylinder) can't be altered

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Greybeard, tried all those things which helped a bit especially cooling the grubscrews slowly rather than quickly. Tried centredrilling them in a lathe but still found it f'ing hard to drill them without snapping drillbits. In the end got some stainless grubscrews, slow speed on the drill press with plenty of rocol and went through them piece of piss.

Yeah, know exactly what you mean. Have been thinking of trying something similar. Only problem is the thread size is 3/8" so the carby jet won't do. Grubscrew is the best I can think of. Also has to be able to be screwed in with an allen key.

-thanks for that, we use Vickers and Southcott cylinders have never seen them with a speed restrictor built in. Do you mean built into the nipple that screws into the inlet and outlet ports of the cylinder? All our rams turn up with a female thread with a plastic plug in it. We screw a C3-0909 nipple into them and it is this nipple that we are tapping an internal thread into that a 3/8" grubscrew screws into. Don't want to use a needle valve as I want it to be 'set and forget' and not give clients the option of adjusting the extend/retract speed, with the internal grubscrew no-one will know it's there so won't be likely to fiddle with it. I'll try a titanium drill tomorrow and try and grab some of that lube. Using Rocol at the moment which is generally pretty good.

-Drilling and tapping a thread into a nipple that screws into a hydraulic cylinder, the grubscrew screws into the nipple and acts as a restrictor for the oil flow so that the ram doesn't open to quickly. -Using a drill press but still breaking a shitload of drills.

As the title says, anyone got any tips for drilling a 1mm hole through a grubscrew? The only grubscrews I can find are hardened and are bloody tough to drill through - using a 1mm drill isn't helping, just keep snapping them off. I have made a tool that the grubscrew screws into wihch then slots into another piece on the benchdrill, so it is dead centre and not moving at all. Have also tried heating them up and then chucking them in a bucket of water which made it a little easier, but still hard. Any hints greatly appreciated. Cheers

Have you looked at the Electus catalogue as well as Jaycar? not 100% sure but I believe they do have some different stuff from Jaycar. If you can't find anything, does it have to disconnect right at the firewall? what about running the cable through a cable gland in the firewall and then putting an in-line breakaway (like a 2 pin weatherpak) a couple of inches either side of the gland? Also, does it have to breakaway both sides? if not you can get some pretty neat panel mounted sockets with plug to suit, but obviously can only disconnect from one side.

He said that you can only get the PLC's with 4 outputs and that they can't be expanded on? Do you happen to have any contacts for someone that could supply something along these lines? Bearing in mind that it may need to control up to 20 functions and we need to be able to easily change the timing / sequence that solenoida are on/off. thanks again. - Also is in an agricultural dirty / dusty environment.

Hello, just wondering if anyone can give me any info etc on where to source a programable 12V controller / timer. What I am after is a unit that can send power to 12V solenoids in a pre-programmed sequence and hold them open for a certain amount of time. It would need to do it all in a sequence and on a repeatable loop. Any suggestions? thankyou

Also looking for plastic tee pieces (not sure if they have a proper part name) to clip over a wiring loom where different wires go off to other directions, just to make it a bit tidier rather than using electrical tape. Hello, just wondering if someone can tell me whats involved in getting a car registered in WA that will be bought over from NSW. It's a late model Monaro (about 3-4 yrs old) basically std except for exhaust and lowered. Ditch the regs. that come with the cheap compressors, run an air hose out of each tank into a brass threaded 'T' piece, screw a decent reg. into the other side of the 'T', and one outlet from there to your tools etc

Just wondering if anyone makes dies for aluminium extrusions? I am looking for a bracket to fit around 30mm RHS in a shape a bit like a square 's' or a walking stick, made out of 4mm aluminium.
