  1. Did a boost leak test. Found nothing.. Checked all vacuum lines and hoses. But I logged my sensor readings using NDSI and it seems that I'm hitting a fuel cut on one of the banks.. What would cause that? A misfiring coilpack? Here is a sample of the readings: Time RPM MAF cool O2 Spd +- Inj Tmng PW Neutral Start TPS 29.291, 3162, 3.19, 75, 121, 36, 13.5, 7.49, 25, Off, Off, Off, Off 29.335, 3212, 3.23, 75, 122, 36, 13.5, 2. What exactly exactly was your issue?
  3. I've gapped the spark plugs again to 1.1mm recently and no change.. And yes, they are bcpR7es NGK 6282 (typo haha). The rpms start breaking up anything above 4000 rpm. The higher the load, the worse the misfire really.
  4. Put a scope on the negative of all the cylinders. #6 seems to be dropping below 5v. I'm not sure of what to derive from this. Checked resistance from signal wire to ecu for all cylinders and they are all at 0.182 ohms. Checked ground for Coilpacks. Resistance was nominal. Checked CAS signal wires (2) as well and they are a 0.145 which seems nominal.. I thinkSwapped ECU from a friend's good running gtr. No change.. lol Cylinder 6: Rest of the cylinders:
  5. Well, I unplugged both o2 sensors. Still have the misfires. Also tried gapping the plugs to 0.6mm ( i know, its ridiculous) but still have the misfires.
  6. Used one from a friend's properly running car. I've checked wiring. Didnt see any voltage drop
  7. Oh i see i will try that as Hadouken suggested as well. I have new o2 sensors coming in 2 days. Just wanted some input on my current ones
  8. Don't run what? Are you suggesting that my o2 sensors are okay?
  9. No unfortunately not.. its been there since a long time preventing me from driving the car
  10. I will try unplugging them thank you. I converted to r34 gtr coilpacks so ignitor pack was deleted. Yes eveything was from good running friend's car Yes. Compresion test yielded even 160 psi on all cylinders while engine was hot. Boroscope each cylinder. Valves and cylinders looked ok. Just a little bit of oil around the piston rings but thats understandable at 155,000 km.
  11. R32 GTR misfire. O2 sensor readings. Hey everyone, hoping I can get some insight into this.. I've chasing this misfire since months. Engine boggs heavily when cold until coolant temp reaches 60 degrees celcius. Clears up as soon as it hits that mark. Engine misfires heavily under high load above 4000 rpm. 10 psi boost. Engine is bone stock. Stock ECU. Work done so far: -New coilpacks and harness. -Spark plugs BCP7ES gapped to 0.8mm -Fuel pressure and injectors ok. New fuel filter. 12.4 volts at fuel pump. -Smoke tested- found air leak and replaced all 7 intake gaskets and all hoses underneath. Smoke tested again - no air leaks now. -Swapped CAS. no change -Swapped MAFs. no change. -swapped boost solenoid. no change -swapped coolant temp sensor. no change. -Base and ignition timing is on point. Now i'm looking at o2 sensor readings. They don't seem normal to me but I would just like to confirm with anyone with more diagnostic experience than me. Here is the data from ECUTalk via consult. Idle after hitting closed loop: 0:00 - 0:25 Shy revs: 0:25 - 0:30 Idle : 0:30 - 1:00 Hold rpm 1300: 1:00 Please. I will appreciate any input. Thanks!
  12. Thanks guys. After many confirmations, online and IRL, i know for certain that the timing belt is super loose. I will be pulling the engine in a week to change the oil pump, timing belt, tensioner, idler, spring, intake and exhaust gaskets, aac gasket. Will definitely update on how it goes as everything is unfolded in the engine. Thanks again everyone!
  13. I am very worried as well which is why I try to research as much as possible before I do any further diagnosis or find out how to do this diagnosis. I pulled the coolant line in front of the timing cover and it dripped a bit. Nothing to worry about lol.
  14. Took the timing belt cover off. There were no rubbing marks on the timing cover. Intake cam gear was grinding with the vack cover and the exhaust cam gear slightly grinding as well. Timing belt a little tight. I'm not sure how tight its supposed to be. Found some rubbing marks on the inside teeth of the timing belt for 1 inch. Is the ok for the timing belt to move back and forth? Any comments on the grinding? What can be told about those rubbing mark on the teeth? http://s27.postimg.org/k7t1lauwz/20150928_154209.jpg Video showing the timing belt play and cam gear grinding : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GclZnyZXrFI
  15. I put the CAS back in the same position. Marked everything before taking it off. Yes, I believe the timing belt was a little too tight. But what would cause the knocking noise?
  16. I'm back to bother ya'll again. hehe. I'll get right to it, Please follow my story below: I had this tapping/knocking noise on rb26 that came on 1 minute after i cold start it but it would go away after 20 minutes initially.. I took a stethoscope and poked around the whole top of the engine. From the cam covers, all i could hear was the injector ticking but when i put it on the cam angle sensor or the timing cover ( i have a clear plastic one). It was clearly audible as in it hurt my ears listening to that knock. So I took out the CAS and everything and The shaft on the CAS was greasy with no rubbing marks but the O ring was still good. I installed another good used CAS but the knock was still there. Then I found out that the previous retarded owner had not put the gasket and spacer grommets on the clear timing cover when he installed it. eBut he included the original cover when I bought the car so I checked it out and as I suspected, the old timing cover still had the gasket and the washers stuck on it. So I went ahead and installed it. And this happened.. There is a knock and ofcourse the whining noise.. I have no idea what it is. How do I diagnose what it is? Would it be safe to diagnose with the engine running like that?
  17. doo doo, Unfortunately I'm located in Canada. Thanks for the offer. I'm going to be pulling the engine and inspect a few things, especially in the head - the cam cover caps. Thanks for all the help everyone.
  18. I just changed the oil to fully synthetic 5W40 for the hell of it. The noise was still there. So I grabbed a long screwdriver and started poking around the top of the engine with my ear to the other other of the screwdriver. The noise was about 10% louder than you can hear without the screwdriver on the whole area of the cam covers. The noise was about 3X louder when I put the screwdriver on top of the top timing cover. I have a plastic clear timing cover ( just want to mention it) Thus, I'm assuming the noise is coming from somewhere in the timing belt area. Can tensioners make that kinda knocking/tapping noise? Or perhaps the oil pump?
  19. Yes, non-synthetic castrol gtx 10w40. Pretty sure don't have forged pistons lol. I dont think the cam covers were ever removed when i replaced the rubber just a few weeks ago.
  20. Yes, I've changed the oil. The previous owner was running 5w30 and I changed to 10w40 conventional.
  21. Hey everyone, My name is Sammy and I bought my first nissan, a 1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R about 5 months ago. I used to own many ae86s after having enough of rust and leaks, i decided to sell them all and move on to something more desirable, which got me here. To briefly describe my technical skills, I'm good at turning a wrench but an amateur at diagnosing. After driving the vehicle for a few weeks, I noticed that there was a tapping/ knocking noise coming from the engine. The noise is only there when i cold start the engine. After driving the car from about 15 minutes, the noise is COMPLETELY gone. Here is the video of the sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPS5SNXujHc&feature=youtu.be (sounds exactly how it sounds in the video. I would turn off the bass on the speakers to hear it properly.) I've had a various tuner shops have a look at the car and noone would give me even a rough estimate of the problem without asking me to rip apart the engine at their shop for $150/hr. So i stopped driving the car and it's been sitting in the driveway for 4 months now. Although one person told me that my timing belt is too tight and the oil pumps also make that noise sometimes so I have all those parts on order and waiting for them to arrive. The car is fully stock. No mods whatsoever apart from a quite kakimoto catback.i am using castrol gtx 10w40 conventional engine oil. Please help
