  1. Ok well the Garrett's deffinetly come with actuators, not sure what base boost they are set at. After that it reminds me that the HKS turbos do come with those upgraded actuators. Different actuators are set to different base boost settings and operate effiecently in different boost ranges. Deren
  2. Yeah they do come with actuators. Thanks for your input
  3. Yeah im going to just use straight hose to make up the majority of hoses. One or two i might have to buy but that'll be good saving. I can imagine the coolant hoses wouldnt be cheap. My bonnet brand new cost me 1000 dollars, they normally go for 1100 but because i had already spent about 5 grand at nissan they gave me a discount lol.
  4. Hey Chris, thanks for the tip. After i went home i heard a couple of really loud runs im asuming they were Marks 32 GTR drag car? I live in the estate off Wondall rd so not exactly close but i could still here it loud as! I was wishing i had have stayed. Deren
  5. Slide will reco mine for 1500 not $2450 i think you have got that confused with the price of the garrett's. Its either the HKS GT-SS turbos for $2700del or Garrett 2860r-5 turbos for $2450del. Where did you buy your HKS turbos?
  6. Would that be 1/2 hour of standstill engine running or driving? Im guessing driving..
  7. Probably not enough, but i got a decent insurance qoute from shannons comprehensive cover with an aggreed value of $30,000 It owes me double that but its better than nothing if i do choose to insure it comprehensively. It was a basic excess of $500. The premium was just under $1100.
  8. Sounds great Adam. I can't wait to get it finished at be able to go out with all the other guys on a cruise or something. Its been 2 years since i drove the car just about! I dont even remember what its like to drive, which doesnt really matter as it'll be a new car to drive now. Keep me posted on catching up. This weekend i've fitted up the front sway bar with my new nolathane d-bushes. Fitted all but one P/S pipe after having them all completely pulled apart down to every last pipe clamp rubber insert, they were then cleaned, painted and reassembled. One of the new nolathane rack mount bushes was too small to fit the rack so im trying to get a larger one this week. Then i can refit it to the car and once again have steering! Still a few other little bits and pieces to hunt down but at the moment im really trying to save up for all the engine expenses. Deren - 0402 829 091 PS: Added a couple of fotos but they dont really do it justice, bad quality.
  9. Cheers Mike, its a tough call i know Im thinking to go down the 2860r-5 path also. One reason being i had the head and turbos off not long ago and can reuse most of the gaskets. So that leaves me with some elongated holes on the oil return flanges. Hopefully nothing else pops up causing problems. I didn't realise they were $2450 from slide, thats even cheaper! I think im sold. Deren
  10. Yeah i think i will probably remove the HICAS one day but i havent had heaps of driving in it since i bought it about 4 years ago. 7,000km's to be exact. Rest of the time i have been playing around with it. Sounds silly i know but i can never seem to just leave things be. So anyway my point is i want to experience HICAS properly for myself in all conditions before i decide to remove it. Not just because everyone else is telling me to. Even though im sure they are probably right Yes Nissan deffinetly know me well both in melbourne and brisbane now. I need to replace my power steerings hoses in the engine bay but for 5 of them from nissan its 270 bucks! Anyone know of an aftermarket alternative? I was going to try some straight hose for a few of them and see how it sits. Deren
  11. Check out http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=140022 if you wanna take a look at what im doing to my car here in Brisbane. Deren
  12. I see, thanks for that. Im tied between the HKS GT-SS turbos now and the Garrett 2860r-5 turbos. I cant choose one. The garretts arent in a kit and will need gaskets and some modification to the oil returns but i can buy them from australia (no possible taxes). They look just as responsive as the GT-SS turbos and look to have the ability to make more power aswell. However the GT-SS turbos are in a complete kit with everything i need to fit them, only marginally more expensive, and a proven responsive package, but will buying these from nengun for about 2700 delivered incur me duty tax? Anyone got any knowledge on that? Many thanks, Deren
  13. Its just a standard paper element air filter. Ryco make good filters for standard applications but if you want better flow and filtration you need to get something like a cotton gauze element filter like k&n etc. They arent too expensive.
  14. Yeah i know i can get GT-SS from Nengun for $2700 delivered, but thats even better. However i am quickly beginning to prefer these Garrett 2860r-5. I like the HKS kit because it comes with everything i would need to fit them. From previous experience buying/fitting turbos from garrett you are supplied with poorly fitting gaskets not to mention the fabrication i found necessary to fit the turbo. Can anyone tell me first hand if this is the case with the 2860r-5 turbos. Also could anyone give me an upto date price on them? EDIT: Sorry missed that price Ronin. I guess the advantage i'll have is i'll be building the engine/fitting the turbos on an engine stand so it wont be too hard to get any minor changes made. I just dont want to have to modify inlet snounts or anything like that. Anyone fitted these suckers themselves and can tell me what mods are needed?
  15. Were they a direct bolt on swap? How much are they selling new for?
  16. If they will bolt straight on with no modification required and are resonably priced im quite interested in them as an option...
  17. Ahh very interesting. Will that be a direct bolt on replacement? I've had a 'direct bolt on' from garrett before on a s13 silvia (2560r) and it took much work to fit it including a fair bit of fabrication. Thats something i dont want to have to do on my car. However from what you said it does sound interesting.
  18. Thanks guys, the car has been off the road for about 2 years now as ive been rebuilding it ground up. See my restoration thread.. Im about to re-assemble the engine so i was starting to get serious with what turbos i wanted to use. I know the obvious comparisons you can make between the two ie: one is roller bearing the other is not etc. However i wanted to hear some opinions of guys who have actually sampled both. Deren
  19. Hey everyone, im getting close to re-assembling my Rb26 and have my heart set on the HKS GT-SS turbo kit. I've heard mixed results comparing them to rebuilding my stock ones through Aaron at sliding performance. Yet to ask him for his thoughts. Some say the rebuilt ones are only slightly laggier than the stock items and have potential to make more power than the HKS GT-SS turbos. Others say the response from the GT-SS turbos is phenomenal. I like the sound of the ultra quick response the GT-SS provide, however I do want a pair of turbos that will perhaps one day provide me with big power as the bottom end is built quite tough. Can some of you guys who have first hand knowledge tell me what you have found with either combination. Keen to hear about power i could expect from either setup and response of the two. Many thanks, Deren
  20. You can use shellite to clean it out as it evaporates and will leave no residue.
  21. Make sure you fit the thermostat with the bleed hole at the top. If your radiator hose is still cold it means the thermostat hasn't opened. Once it does it will never completely close just vary between fully open and slightly closed. Its more so the fan that will control coolant temperature especially at standstill. Like previously mentioned it sounds more like you havent bled the air completely from the system...make sure you have your heater on full and its a good idea to disconnect either a heater hose/manifold heater hose etc while your filling/bleeding the air out of the system. Leave the hose off until coolant flows from it then put it back on. Goodluck, can be a pain. Deren
  22. You should really be getting it looked at by a mechanic to work out what the problem actually is...Know one can know for sure without taking a detailed look. Everything makes different noises for different reasons. Take it to a workshop
  23. Easiest way to check for blown turbo is to remove the cat as the remainder of your turbine wheel will be in there. Only one turbo has to blow to loose all boost.
  24. Check fuel filler, fuel tank breather lines, etc for perished hoses.
  25. Try a import wrecker. See if you can find a cheap 2nd hand window regulator, you need one now anyway. See if that fixes the problem. Sorry i cant be of more help but my problem was more obvious with just a broken pulley. Deren
