  1. Ok, once again im all covered in black spots head to toe but the car is looking very nice underneath. I have finally finished painting the underside to a standard i am happy with. I have taken a few more photos of the final product, though it is quite difficult to get a decent photo of the entire underside in one shot without flipping the car upside down Note the mega negative camber in one of the shots. Kinda goes like that when nothings bolted together anymore! Tomorrow i plan to finally get stuck into refitting all those things i previously mentioned in my last post. Wish me luck! Deren
  2. So far so good. Today i received my order of another 4 bottles of the wurth (thick) stoneguard. Straight after work i applied one bottle and like last time (even with good ventilation) i managed to get myself extremely high from the fumes. I guess thats always gonna happen when your face is only about 20 cm from what your painting and your laying under a car! Anyway its looking really good and im hoping to finish the painting by tomorrow and finally get to reinstall the fuel tank, rear end, etc. After that...front end here i come!
  3. Everytime i move the switch to enable the release from the cabin after about 1 or 2 releases it goes back to the disabled position... Whats the go? Dont mean to hijack but its possibly the same problem. Whats the go?
  4. You think your interiors stripped and looking scarey? You should see my whole car!
  5. Once you can get to the boxes under the dash you can remove them individually. From the left is the blower then the evaporator then the heater core. Remove the evaporator first (in the middle) and separate the box so check it for leaks/oily stains. On reassembly make sure you get some new foam to seal up the joins of the boxes from clark rubber. If you dont have a leak in the evaporator take a look see at the heater core. Its harder to remove and harder to separate. There is a main flap in it (air mix door?) that runs thru the guts of it and took me awhile to realise on one end of it there is a small screw holding the middle of it together. So dont force it. There is a reason its not coming apart hehe Deren
  6. Which is it? Cranking and turning over are the same thing. Does it crank? If you only had the alternator installed recently id be looking at that. Could be a fault there. Dont assume because its new that its not the problem. More often that not a fault in fitment or the new item itself is the cause. If its not cranking over at all check your battery voltage. If its low jump start or charge it up then check for alternator charge rate both at the alternator and the battery terminals. Let us know how you go. Deren
  7. No theres no markings on it. The crank pulley/harmonic balancer has the marks on it for ignition timing.
  8. From memory its just to serve as an auto adjustor before you lock it. Dont bother replacing it, but make sure you replace the stud and bolt that secure both the idler and tensioner bearings. Deren
  9. Cheers for that mate! As always i appreciate it Some may recognise that line about emptying your wallet when owning a GTR as its from HPI GTR special edition. I liked it so i took it as my own hehe.. Im like you, if its hot you want to have the option to turn on your aircon. The car came out with it so in my mind it should work! Enjoy the GTR Deren
  10. LOL obligatory hammer! Funny man. Your condensor is mounted on the front of your car in front of the radiator so i can safely say its not attached to that. Sounds more like your describing your evaporator and the TX valve. I had a look in my manual and i cant pin point where the refrigerant temp sensor is. Would be located somewhere on one of the air con pipes/hoses i would think. Check both the evaporator core for leaks and the heater core as if there is a dye added to the ac system is will look green and be slippery and will come from a leaking evaporator core. Good luck
  11. Idler and tensioner bearings. If they let go its just as bad as your belt breaking. Good idea to replace the bearing stud & bolt (prone to failing). Forget the water pump and oil pump If they are servicble why waste your money? Deren
  12. Contact an auto aircon company and get the compresor serviced/repaired...
  13. Hey guys, As for the interior the seats are in excellent condition aswell as much of the rest, so thats a big saving. However hand brake cover and gear shift cover are not so great so I will get them trimmed in leather to match the rest of the interior. The dash has a large bubble in the usual place so im hoping to get a close match on that and get it reskinned. The car isn't going to be as stock as i may have led to believe. I do want it the cleanest one around but i also want to have some fun making more power. If you havent read i have a tough engine to go back into it with built internals and very finely balanced all the way through. Hey Nick! Good to hear from ya. I often wish i was still down there. Will be back in a few more years so im sure things will resume as normal then I've been in touch with Chris (White S13) and he has filled me in whats new. Deren
  14. No problemo mate! Sorry i took so long...
  15. Very informative. Thanks for that Bass Junky, much appreciated! I was planning on the front splits and some co-axes in the back. I had thought it may be worthwhile adding some stinger roadkill or the like to the rear parcel shelf like you mentioned. Thanks for the compliments Sean! Deren
  16. So you only need LSD oil for a mechanical LSD? And viscous LSD has a sealed in amount of its own special fluid you dont ever need to change??
  17. Yeah im the same, im not liking the idea of having to hand over my rebuilt car to a workshop to tune it one day. Was kinda hoping to strike up a friendship with someone who can that perhaps i could help?!? Hehe, sure thing mate, i'll at least lend you a hand. Give me a call. Deren
  18. I guess the other options is to have a easily removeable sub box and amp for the track days etc. Like you though i will just be going with well setup front splits and rear speakers. These days they can get quite good bass out of those speakers. Last night i dropped out the front end. Was a little more involved than the rear, as there were more mounting points to unbolt. Now that its on the ground when it comes time i can wheel it out of the way to stoneguard around the front of the chassis rails/inside the front guards. In time once i have refitted the rear back in after all the underbody painting has been done i will get onto rebuilding the front end like i have done to the rear. Deren
  19. As you know im currently redoing all the underside with new stone guard which also acts as a deadener. However i dont want to add too much unnecessary weight to the car, which is why i have opted for no big stereo system ie:sub box, amp, etc. I did plan to put in new unlay though. I think ive seen some types that incorporate a bitumen layer into it. Might be the way to go. I want it a little more 'solid' without going crazy. Back in the day i was well into the big custom stereo installs and i remember a friend settng up his car with painted on deadener inside the doors and stick on roadkill deadener on the panels under the trims. Like you said it completely enhances the audio quality. Not sure if you have seen them but there are special (think they're called) dyna pads you can get to stick onto the inside of the door skin behind the speaker magnet. It also enhances the bass you get out of the midrange speakers and without a subwoofer i'll need all the bass i can. I did once plan to make a composite sub box with very thin MDF (to get the actual shape), backed up with plenty of fibreglass for a solid sealed box. However then you still have a big heavy magnet on the sub (or 2) and a big heavy amp (at least mine is..PPI 2150) With about 700watt RMS i don't really need one that big but its what i got and its a kick arse amp. Im kinda going round in cirlces here so i think i'll just stop lol. Have a good weekend guys, Deren
  20. I think you'll find its just a matter of replacing the airbag itself..
  21. Yeah i have been at it pretty hard! Its been slow going lately though while waiting for the stoneguard etc. I just got it and applied the two bottles of it but thats only got me about 1/3 of the way! So looks like i better order some more...More waiting! I've completed the underside of the rear, so i could refit the rear end and everything under that area ie:fuel tank, etc. However i was hoping to get more of the underside painted before i refitted anything. I'll see how i feel tomorrow, if i can be patient i'll wait another week, if not i'll just mask out the rear end to make sure i dont get any overspray on it. Deren
