Driver: I undid mine not long ago, i bent a few ratchets in the process and a rattle gun wouldnt budge it. I purchaced a strong/long socket bar from repco and a THICK long pole on the end of that and even then it took me a shit load of back and forth tugs before it snapped loose. I couldnt believe how tight it was! Yeah but how did you lock up the ring gear on the flywheel to enable you to stop any rotation of the pulley??
-
anyone ever heard of one/know where to pick up one??? trying to remove crank pulley bolt, i tried wedging a screw driver into the teeth of the fly wheel ringgear whilst trying to undo the pulley bolt but that was kinda dodgy and didnt work.... anyone know any other ways of removing the bolt without the ringgear stopper? i also tried just putting the car in gear but that also didn't work...
-
The reason i tookt he starter out was to install a ring gear stopper. Im going to buy one 2morow. Not 100% sure how to install it though. Any tips?? By the way im locking it to undo the crank pulley bolt.. (new cam belt)

Is tuning required when boost levels are altered?
Godzilla32 replied to thirtythree-II's topic in General Maintenance
I wouldn't think so. I removed the boost restrictor on my car and then had it run up on the dyno and i gained 10 rwkw but it all was still within safety margins, so going backwards should be fine. I went from standard boost to about 12.6psi -
New piston rings?? The limit for a RB26 is 128psi and each of the cylinders should be no more than 14psi difference. Not sure if your car is the same but sounds as thought it might be. Standard value is 171 psi. (direct from manual) Mine were all around 155-160

Thanks alot guys! Really appreciate that input once again. Thats a very good point you made about the water in oil and vice versa. Im silly for not thinking of that myself it was only a couple of days ago i gave that advice to sumone buying a car! I keep a careful eye on those areas regularly and havent noticed any contamination so fingers crossed. I'll go with the seals and hope for the best! The hands are halfway there! But as Wrxhoon mentioned there is still the reassembly..Doh! Many thanks to you both Regards, Deren PS i just thought i might ask would it be worth replacing both cam seals & half moons, even though the intake side seems ok?

Just imported, what valves to clean for maintenance sake?
Godzilla32 replied to b1lly's topic in General Maintenance
Not sure what valves you are talking about but id highly recommend an oil and filter change, not to mention fuel filter and air filter. Thats a good start anyhow.. Cheers, Deren -
I had mine ultrasonically cleaned before i registered the car, later to find 5 out of 6 were leaking from the bodies themselves! So got 6 new ones

Yeh i wouldnt try the gearbox without a hoist n gearbox jack...and i aggree the rear turbo and starter are prolly the hardest ones! Thanks for the tip on the starter removal...
-
Wondering wat all your opinions are of wat the hardest job is on a GTR?? Im putting a vote in for the good ole start motor! Took it off today, damn thing. Turbo's come second in my books! :singer:
-
It could be alot of things but i know the GTR's have a limp mode built in to the ecu programming. That will limit the revs to 2500 if sumthing is wrong...
-
Id like to help but i cant see anything..grab a bigger pic of it and post it... Is it a GTR or?

Thanks again for your input mate. I just finished taking the plenum off for my 3rd time! The first time i took it off cuz i wanted to repaint it. 2nd time i had to take it off cuz i had mega air leaks after i put it back on! Sounded astho there was about 10 birds stuck in there chirping away!! This time cuz im still chasing a high idle..Getting new throttle butterflies cut. And yes i have busted my knuckles! Here's proof.....
-
I would get a garage to check your mixtures with an independant o2 sensor (called a lamda reading)..They put it on the dyno and stick an o2 sensor in the muffler at the back of the car. That way you wont waste money on a new o2 sensor if you dont need it... Cheers
-
Yeh, I have to get the plenum off anyhow to cut new throttle butterflies.. The workshop manual says it has to be removed to take off the head (its a bastard of a job ive done it twice before)...Whats the chance its leaking from both places? There isn't very much oil. I kinda wanna say stuff it and go with my gut feeling that its only the 2 seals but would kick myself if i found it still leaking oil down the track...Then again shaving the head, buying a new head gasket and everything else involved really would be a waste of money if it wasent leaking. I'll get another foto, it seems to be oily in the join of the head and block on the front and rear ends and a bit along the sides, but not at all towards the middle..Which makes me think its just been running down there from higher up and then as the car accelerates and brakes it runs forward and back...?
-
Yeh i knew it was a half moon seal Ive done the rocker cover gasket already but i thought with the turbo's off it and everything else coming off it would be a good chance to do the head gasket if need be. Has anyone seen an RB26 head gasket leak oil before? Mine still runs strong and makes good even compression.
-
Yeh ive done them already they were tough. Took em off a few days ago, but this is ridiculous!
-
Thanks mate i'll see how i go. This car isnt the easiet to work on i've found!
-
How do u get to the top bolt???
-
Anyone?
-
I have taken off both turbo's and mannifolds. One turbo needs attention anyhow. I have discovered that oil is leaking from the front and back exh cam shaft seals. Im still wondering if there is any oil coming from the head gasket? Anyone seen this before?
-
Anyone considering doing this, take alot of thought before you pull the plenum off. Ive taken it off a few times already and its not as simple as it looks! Very fidelly and time consuming. Unless your very experienced in mechanics i wouldnt attempt it, as you risk having an air leak (high idle) as a result. Both surfaces must be completely clean of old gasket before refitting with new ones. I used an engine enamel to paint mine but was later told i should have first sprayed on an 'etch' primer. Apparently this improves bonding.

Climate Control diagnosis - PBR?!?!?!????
Godzilla32 replied to jezzerrr's topic in General Maintenance
I get bursts of hot air normally after i boot it a bit its goes from cold to hot then back...its kind of annoying. I'll have to run the diagnostic on it..Is it easy to do? -
Hey guys, im after a few opinions from you guys that have had alot of experience with RB26's. When i shut mine off ther is a breif rattling right when everything comes to a stop. Ive been told it doesnt sound normal. Anyone else have this noise? If not wat would it be? I know ther must be lots of things it could be. I have my turbo's off at the moment and im about to remove the throttles for the 3rd time (chasing a high idle) So while its apart, if it'll make it easier where should i look first? It seems to come from the driverside of the engine... Regards, Deren
