  1. Wow, very interesting thread. My R32 has similar dramas. Aircon compressor will not start and after trying two different clocks neither worked. Might be time to pull the dash apart? I'm not 100% on what to look for but very interested to read that they are possibly related.
  2. Thanks for the feedback guys
  3. I think you'd end up with a caliper with blotches of white paint or it would take you a very long time to apply enough paint. I tried sanding back 'Nissan' and it didn't work for me. It was very difficult to keep an even finish but you'd get there eventually. I tried applying paint stripper with a cotton bud and it made a real mess. Ended up having to redo that caliper. The best result I had was by masking 'Nissan' and trimming the edges with a razor blade after reading the suggestion on here. Turned out beautiful. I'd argue even nicer than freehanding it with a small brush. Masking took ten minutes per caliper. If you wanted white, just paint the caliper in white first, then mask, then apply the base coat and colour coat.
  4. The 'flipping' sound from the exhaust sounds a lot like a gasket that is past its use-by date. Once they crack/deteriorate, exhaust gas will escape from the tiny hole and makes that sound. It should get louder with RPM as the higher revs mean more air is being exhausted therefore more is escaping from the leaky gasket. That is an easy(ish) job and you may well be able to do it yourself. If you have a cat on the exhaust then any potential rodent would be stuck on the muffler side of the exhaust system. With the white smoke, if it truly is smoke then I'm out of idea but it may well be condensation being vented through the exhaust. You know how a lot of cars blow white 'smoke' on cold mornings for the first few kilometres? Did it go away after a few minutes or kept coming out? I'm sorry but I can't help with the fan, no idea there Cheers Mark PS I'm guessing you're in Canada/US as Sydney had the second hottest day on record a few weeks ago
  5. $519.00 for a front bar is unpainted and not primed. That price was after a lot of haggling and the painter using a few favours. Nissan first stated the retail was just over $700 for the genuine bar. I agree with you re: cracking etc. which is why I bought a plastic OEM front bar. I am happy with fibreglass Nismo skirts, vents and rear lip though because they'll never flex. The skirts, possibly, but no dramas so far and they're only small. The cost for fibreglass was around $500 for those three components yet it would have been around $1600 from Nissan for plastic. Personal preference of course, but I saved where I thought I could. Cheers Gordon, Mark
  6. nuR.spec PM sent
  7. Thanks Rylan, your post reminded me to test my a/c. The temps check out but I cant hear the compressor start when I switch from fan only to aircon. I hate auto electrics.
  8. The outer sill panel is welded to the car at both ends. The panel shop cuts the existing sill out an welds a new one in. I'm pretty sure we're on the same page because you couldn't pull out a chassis rail with multi-grip but could give it a good go on a sill. When mine was welded in the panel shop was going to cut out a section of the rear panel but ended up fitting a new one. You'd need to paint afterwards to tidy up. If you are just pulling it out rather than replacing, then sure, no paint. My car seems to have had rust cut out of the sill on the driver side. A really dodgy job with a terrible weld job. I'm really pleased we found it and replaced the sill, it looked shocking, I'll see if I can drag out the pics. I still have the rear quarter glass, it's just taking up space in the garage If you're interested Scooby, please shoot over a pm
  9. When I say paint I mean paint the rear quarter, not the sill
  10. Outer sills for R32 GTR are around $300 each. Labour to install and paint is around $2000. Here's a pic of why I had to have mine replaced:
  11. Four months ago I bought a new R32 GTR bar from Mr Nissan for $519.00 Front bar vents are around $200 each. Yes, each. Nismo sideskirts (the 1/3 OEM) are just over $400 each. Yes, each. Suddenly fibreglass bits sounded a lot more appealing.
  12. Thanks Steve (again!). Thread has been printed and is on the desk Cheers
  13. Great to hear mate! And you paid half what I did Result!
  14. and the guy is so rich he doesn't have to park between the lines like the rest of us schleps
  15. Steve would you mind posting the part numbers please? Alternatively, could you post them in General Maintenance/R32 Maintence Parts thread please? Thank you mate!
  16. Warren and Brown do a good wrench, so I am told. As I'm only a once-a-quarter user I bought one from Gasweld for just under $100 and is calibrated during manufacture. The one I bought does 20-150ftlbs. Gasweld had Stanley wrenches for just over $200 on sale. Here's a thread from earlier in the year. If you google torque wrenches you'll find a few online stores that may have better prices than you've looked at. For what it's worth, three out of three mechanics I spoke to about them all said they only torque stuff like head bolts and don't bother with anything else. But I vaguely remember you have an engine to rebuild...?
  17. snipe I apologise for the hijack/spam at the end of the post Here a pic of the smorgasboard of repairs already done to my "no major accident damage" R32. In the high res pics you can see a row of welding spots around the wheel arch and see how the rear corner was pulled out into shape - hence we cut our losses and bought a new one. By the way, inside the rear quarter we found: a Japanese diary D-cell battery rotting right hand woolen glove rotting original leather gearshift sparkplug remover sleeve (which I still use today ) And for you Russell Not the best pic, cause still only have the video camera for photos, but you get the idea. You really have to see it in person. No dents no scratches and a great shine. And I've nearly paid off the credit card! hehe The last pic is a 'before' shot. Fitted Nismo skirts, bonnet lip and front vents. New rear quarter glass and front/rear windscreen seals. New window guides along the tops of the doors too and took the paint off the front lip spoiler.
  18. Whilst I agree with xr8eater, the hardest part will be finding a buyer for the engine and for the shell. Personal opinion only, I'd fix it and sell it for whatever I could, rather than have R32 bits clutter up your garage for the next 12 months as you sell the car $20 at a time.
