Hi Shaun Dude I have an RB26 not RB20, so this is just what I've read on SAU and HPI etc. The cams will fit but apparently they aren't terribly good on an RB20 and the dynoed car actually produced less power than with the stock cams. Someone smarter than me will know why. Not sure about the cam gears and I really wish I could find that thread/article. Might have been the HPI article where they 'made' an RB24...? Cheers Mark

Damn Sean! I saw your car for the first time last week too! Well as long as you're alright mate. I had a 'moment' coming down Hawkesbury Rd a fortnight ago on a Friday morning when the road was greasy. I was trying to suss out how the torque split works and I did a similar thing but *just* retained control (it was a 35kmh left into a 25kmh right I think). Learned a good lesson! No damage, never connected with anything but enough to speed up the ticker for a few k's. If you're after parts, let me know, cause I bought a stack (bumper etc) when I had my car painted and have a fair idea of how much Nissan can sell them for. Mark

I'd be surprised if G_man was serious, but if you are mate posted because I'm sure school holidays have just started. lol, dude that's my car about six weeks ago. If you are serious about buying a 'killer' GTR, perhaps you should post more details on what you are after, or better yet go to the For Sale section where there are at least four for sale right now. Careful throwing insults around mate.

What is a caliper overhaul?
cowie165 replied to cowie165's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Ok. Rotors have been fitted. Calipers have been painted and overhauled. The overhaul sounds more exciting that it really is. They should rename it to "replacement of rubber seals and a good wipe down". Calipers have been painted and refitted. Pads refitted. Brakes bled. Wheels on. Took it for a drive... Back to school, brakes need a pump before they have enough pressure to operate properly. Thinking things through I think I may have removed the bleeder hose before locking the nipple on one of the calipers. Damn. Anyway, the braking that I did do was such a huge improvement, I am looking forward to rebleeding tomorrow night and trying again. Oh yeah, bent the socket rod using the water pipe trying to crack the 19mm bolts at the front Wasn't a cheap set either. Grrr. Mark -
Yahoo JP. Zoom over to the Slidewize folder and Zac will help you out.

Justin I don't know if it helps but I have a spare that has one side broken?? Not looking to sell it, but can post it to you if you want something in the interim - it holds the stick in place just doesn't look 100%. edit: too early to spell properly

Hi mate, I have a 550hp R33 GTR I'm thinking of selling. It has a unique bodykit and I removed the windscreen and some other parts to assist in weight reduction. It has HKS headlights, Fujitsubo BOV gauge, Defi twin-plate gearbox, Defi high-mount turbos with a full-length Dunlop exhaust (no cat!!!!! ) It also has aftermarket Intel ECU and Shell Optimax 700cc injectors. My neighbour has already offered $38,600 ca$h but no way, it's worth much more than that. Offers over $40,000 considered. U tyrekicker.

Hi Michael Just for info dude, the leather R32 wheels are all the same, they just have different horn buttons. The GTSt has the black plastic with the silver 'S' and the GTR horn appears leather covered. If your trade with Justin falls through and you're after a GTR horn button, I have one (cause I now have three R32 wheels....) Mark

Just for those that aren't aware, the torque split gauge does not measure a percentage, it measures kilogram.metres, ie torque. A reading of 50 on the gauge does not mean you're driving an overweight STi That said, when your GTR rolled out of the factory years ago with its claimed 353Nm. That's around 36kgm, so a stock car won't see 50

Ben I thought it was the 1990 Nismo edition that had a metal turbine? Seems like none of us know!

Buying 2nd Hand Calipers
cowie165 replied to AlexCim's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I have just refitted my calipers to the car after a DIY overhaul. I am an office puke but managed to follow the workshop manual. There are lots of pretty pictures and threads on SAU that can help you through it. In my opinion, there doesn't seem to be any specialised skill required, just the right tools. Thought it might convince you to buy the calipers - keeping costs down and all. Cheers dude. -
Hi Duncan, you said 'an under car shot', not a decent under car shot... so here's a few. Mate I apologise for the poor field of view and the res - taken freehand with a video cam a few hours ago.

Hey Phil what did you end up paying for an RB26 meter? I didn't know if you had the OEM ECU or PFC - Z32 needs an aftermarket computer. Not 100% here but pretty sure it is because the Z32 meter measures airflow in smaller voltage increments therefore you can tune the motor more finely. Meh, I forget 10-4 Troy, for some reason I thought it was broken after the unit. 15 year old plastic sucks, my adaptor/plug-in bit is cracked and taking the coils off sucks too - worried something is going to snap off.
-
Do you need 'specialised' tools to do it? ie welding a socket to a spanner? Or is it all DIY Meccano style?
-
Phil I'm just taking a pluck here, but if there is air making its way past the AFM without passing through it, you may have dramas as the meter will not be forwarding the right info to the ECU. About the only place I would drive it (if it were me) would be to the wreckers to buy a replacement. Z32 meters (used) go for $200-250. R32 GTR? Not sure, vaguely remember seeing them for $80-100 (as no-one wants them).

Time For New Pads And Rotors
cowie165 replied to BHDave's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I like your thinkin'! Fair point too. I assume you have to wear both, but one will always be harder than the other therefore wear less. -
Done! Thank you mate.

Sounds great dude. I'm halfway through overhauling them. I have a tube of CRC orange anti-squeal. This is for a little squirt between the shims right? Having not done this before, I'm not sure how much is too much.... I've heard a few guys say that Brembos are a little bit of wank factor - purely because braided lines, overhauled calipers, good pads and rotors on fresh fluid and you can't go wrong with the GTR calipers. I guess the Brembos are good for the track guys chasing 10/10ths but I'm really looking forward to stopping! My 93 Mazda pulls up better than the GTR does... Lets see if I can get the ABS to work as well!

Time For New Pads And Rotors
cowie165 replied to BHDave's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I apologise if this is a silly question, but how do you stop in a hurry without chewing rotors? Don't you need the pads to bite into the rotor?? -
Dude refer post #2. That's what an ATTESSA controller is. Overboost, yep, they can adjust it to your liking, from max split to no split. The search engine will turn up all the answers. Heath I hope you've been behaving yourself mate! hehehe
-
Good to hear. I have RB74's going on tomorrow (or whenever I pull my finger out) and heard they squeal a lot if bedded incorrectly. Black32 did you have any dramas mating new pads to new rotors? Cheers for the guess Richard
