  1. Cheers man, yeh i forgot to mention what rear camber i wanted but assumed he'd do what he thought was best. I guess he just didn't touch it. There'll be a couple more tweaks ill want done so it'll be back. It was occasionally breaking traction in the rear on some exits but it kinda chirped then gripping up again. May be a 'slick' thing coz they dont really squeal to let you know you're about to break traction like semis do or it may be a little too much rear toe in. Format is excellent though, I'm thinking ill do all 5 next year if i can. Six groups according to previous lap times, grid up on the second straight and take off in pairs, drag to the first corner (or if you're smart, line up next to a mate and one takes off 3 seconds later) for 1 standing, three flying. Four sessions for points and there was time for a 5th so it was as much track time as the test and tune but apparently the numbers were usually higher.
  2. Alignment done just in time to load up for Winton Weather was threatening showers and storms possible all day but we had a pretty good day. In the top class Modified, turbo awd because of the slicks, the BP sprint runs a standing lap and three flyers and scored by adding you best of each for the day. Last time out here was a year ago on old semis and a heap of camber and I managed a 1:39. After the first session I was stoked to be P1 overall with a 1:33.4 flyer and a 1:40 standing. Obviously knew the car had a bunch more in it, taking it relatively easy on the first lap in particular. The car was basically faultless all day which was good because I managed to forget basically all my tools. I focused and learning how to get the best out of the new set up which I couldn’t fully master. If I remember some tool for the final sprint of the season next week I might check and play with tyre pressures also. I finished the day with a 1:32.0 flyer and managed to hook up and fluke a 1:36 standing lap which I’m stoked with. It was enough for 3rd overall behind two fellow club members in a 32gtr and SR20 Datsun. I’ll definitely be doing more of those days next year. The new wheels and tyres with a bigger overall diameter means some of the gear changes for this track have changed for my rig. Most notably, I wasn’t getting into 5th on the main straight but I think the engine may be slightly down on power from the last one. I’ll have to get it in for a tune in the off season and get a touch up. Despite being over 7 seconds quicker, coming onto the straight carrying a lot more speed and breaking deeper, the top speed was only 8km/h faster than last year.
  3. Got the slicks mounted up Shorter lcas made and fitted And a few other little jobs ticked off, replaced wheel bearing, tie rod boot. In for a full alignment Thursday and then BP sprint at Winton on Sunday
  4. New diff and fuel system were fine but alternator has died on me. Picked up some slicks ready to mount on my now vacant 18x10s I’ve ordered a new alternator and a flat Nardi style steering wheel so I can use a quick release adaptor. I’ll put my old one in my dirt track 92’ corolla. Next big purchase will have to be a roll cage, hopefully in the next month. I want to stick with bolt in because I’m convinced I’m gonna put this thing in a wall at some point, just need to do some homework. Next race is 6 weeks away, enough time to make some new lca’s, get a wheel alignment and mount up the slicks
  5. Pulled the stock tank out of the dirty3, not a fun or easy job. Needed a farm hoist to make the job easier. Tank internals were all f**ked up and bent out of place which meant we were never gonna get the last 20+ litres out of the tank. Explains the fuel surge issues we were having. Cut out the spare wheel well bracket an took to it with a sledge hammer to mount the cell and central and far forward as possible. Positioned the cell sump to the rear so fuel would run towards the outlet under heavy acceleration. Plumbed up the fuel lines and wired up the pumps and she's about ready to go again this weekend. With the 25kg+ reduction in tank weight and the unusable fuel we were lugging around this should shave 40 - 50kgs. I'll take it for a run at a fun day at Winton on Saturday to test the fuel system and diff. I'll just be running the fed 595's that came with the weds. I'll finish off what's left of them off at another drift day at Winton skid pan that the car club is running early October then I'll grab some slicks and see how it stacks up with the big boys.
  6. A few changes and a few purchases. Got a set of 18x10 weds sa70's real cheap from a local sau memeber. Wanted to get rims this size as a club member has a virtually unlimited supply of cheap slicks that most of those ahead of me are running. We've done the typical rough as guts door cards and rear fire wall hole filling with thin alloy. Rattlecanned the parcel tray black on Friday to get rid of the glare for a weekend of racing. I will dry ice the sound deadening eventually and paint it better. Toying with a xr8 powerbulge for a future top mount blower that may never happen and had it vinyl wrapped. The club ran a lap dash at Wilby on Saturday, camped the night at the local and ran a drift day there on the Sunday. The car ran faultlessly for grip, bar a little fuel surge issue in the last session when the fuel level was down under 1/4. Threw 20l at it as I'd qualified p7 for the top 10 shootout. Wasn't my cleanest lap as it just started to rain in my warm up but it got heavier for some so it was enough for p2 with a pb of 35.55 still with clapped out old semis. Big night on the turps and a trailer skid later, my first attempt at a drift day on a very narrow track. Was a heap of fun and spent a lot of time off track before I blew a hole in the diff. I was having too much fun to realise that I was single pegging my last lap for the weekend. I haven't pulled it down yet to investigate but happy with how the car ran across the weekend. Not wanting it to be out of action for long, it's back out to the farm for a freshly shimmed diff, a shorter set of modified lcas, fuel cell and a few other small jobs, should be ready to race again as soon as next week.
  7. Thanks John, in the essence of bush mechanic style build, our temp solution is a giant brake light in front of my eyes wired for oil pressure warning... can i ask what clutch master setup you used? we're contemplating a change
  8. Made the lap dash with most jobs complete, no time for a tune though. Car ran really well, pushed it 80% in the first session an it felt much more powerful, came in an had lowered my pb by 1.5s and into the sub 1 min club with a 59.3. After seeing that I was itching to push it to 100% in the second session which ended with a 58.2 an temporarily into the top 10. The old tires were starting to go away a bit but thought I'd give them one last shot at bettering the time in the third session but soon discovered I have stripped a half shaft which was the end of the day for us. Pumped with the time but still haven't had a full days racing yet this year. Bought another diff an swapped out the half shaft. Today had another crack at motorkhana and khanacross which was a blast. Car ran solid despite a few small niggles but just happen to drive on the trailer at the end of the day without a new issue to fix. I left the semis on the front an just ran scrappies on the back, noticed the front left had delaminated so it's well and truely f**ked. I'm having a hard time convincing my old man that -7 is too much neg camber. He somehow thinks that we wouldn't scrub tires and would run better times with the camber as is but get rid of the front toe out [emoji36]
  9. jeez i really want to drive this thing
  10. Discovered a few demons whilst dismantling the engines today. When the double row timing chain was fitted, the oil pump spacer was installed backwards which we can only assume had a missive effect on oil pressure/flow This is how it was sitting, restricting the oil flow by nearly 50% and if you look closely, spitting oil straight back into the sump. The cam came out looking ok so we jammed that into the new block. Never knew the specs of the cam so I'll have to do some homework and decipher the digits There was a fair difference in the sump baffling between the two and the Monaro sump looks like it'll do a much better job. It has tighter fitting baffle all around, it tapers down to the oil pick up and it's got a few fins to help point it all in. Original And new We didn't get it done today but we'll swap the dual valve springs across to the new setup The engine mounts needed to be swapped as they're different an I managed to strip a thread doing so. Quick helicoil an all good. Got a new starter motor on order which should come in the week but with 2 weeks till round 3 and zero free time I don't think we'll make it.
  11. Not sure dude, came with a modded master, I took a couple of pic for ya
  12. The next victim! The other engine has a cam, double row timing chain etc so we'll swap all that over before it goes in. Tossing up whether I get the tune touched up before I go thrashing this around. Set up should be identical other than age/wear on engine
  13. Dropped the oil out, magnetic sump plug came out with shards of metal attached but the oil looked ok. Engine out, sump off and confirmed 1st rod bearing gave out, took second with it and a big end wasn't far off. Looks like we may be able to save the block but for parts $$$ alone we'll drop a new engine in and get racing again. An LS1 with acc should be around a grand and they're everywhere. Rang a local wrecker who had four or five. Just by chance I rang my mothers bf who is a panel beater and has bought cars off this wrecker before. He has an LS1 he picked up out of a burned out Monaro which he's given to me. The plastic intake is obviously melted but we should be able to swap parts across to get tuna by again and the price is right. May look to build up the other engine over time with all the good bits for bigger power or a blower down the track.
  14. I didn't make any changes before round two at Wilby just chasing seat time. I did throw is a spare pair of Toyo Proxes semis i had left over to chop out with the Nitto's, see if they have any laps left in them. I was grouped with the clubs fastest cars including three LS S13's, a 32 with a supercharged LS and even a big power 33 with a real Nissan engine. The car ran well, albeit, still loose in the rear end. decided to give it another session before changing tires and maybe some track side rear toe in. Towards the end of the second session the car developed a tapping/knocking noise so i backed off instantly and idled off the track hoping me a frayed belt or tire. No such luck and no more racing. Potentially a broken rocker, lifter etc. more likely bottom end. Was up all night listening the YouTube videos of LS with spun bearings/various other knocks. Maybe time for the ever reliable RB swap. I did managed to lower the PB by 2.8 seconds on a short track, 35.99s enough to finish the day at P9.
  15. Im def in for the test an tune, just let me know when. Ill drive every chance i get, any track, any car
  16. Thanks man, ill try an get those lcas swapped out an give him a buzz. I've still got five pairs of rims with semis in varying condition, ill churn through a few of those and then i can look at finally putting some decent rubber under it. Lap Dash in Wilby on the 30th of April, Lap Dash at Logic 4th of June and BP Sprint at Winton with the car club 24th of June, Ill drive them all *weather permitting
  17. The PVC we used should give roughly three times the air flow. Was thinking of having a small piece of agi pipe mounted inside end of the PVC and directing air either to the centre of the hub or directly onto the disk, just after the caliper. Who's your alignment guy? would like to have that sorted before round 2 at the end of the month
  18. Yeh i think the white will look even better when i paint the bonnet and boot too. I liked the agi pipe but if the PVC works out it should give significantly more airflow but less direct, was thinking of using a combination. I've got adjustable arms at the top so i could dial some out and get another alignment but i haven't played with it yet. I've got some stock LCAs there but i don't have much of an idea what I'm doing. I was surprised with the Nankangs considering how little trouble i thought i was having at Winton with longer faster corners. We'll have to head back for another T&T soon so i can compare to some other rubber.
  19. Season opener on Sunday and as usual, finished off the day before, just in time. Fender flares done, left one side black, one side white. Not sure what I prefer Experimented with some PVC brake ducts. Logic has never given me brake fade before so won't really know if it works until I get back to Winton. Tidied up the front back and reworked the quick release mounting system. Decided against welding up a cage ourself so sold the half cage, keeping an eye out for a cheap full bolt in. New headlights, cut for cold air intake And a bush mechanic style air box (bucket) First session out on sunday, took it easy to feel out and bed the new brakes, warm the tires. I kept the nankangs on the back with the intention of swapping them out for Nittos to get a comparison. Could tell instantly that they're loose as f**k, for some reason a lot more noticeably on the shorter track. No clean lap but still matched the pb straight up. Very excite! Lined up for second session and had fuel problems straight away, straight into the pits. Took us all day to sort, intermittent issue with the earthing of the in take pump. Seems to supply constant power and earth as required, I believe for a high/low flow pump from the stock Nissan wiring. Finally sorted at the end of the day, snuck in with another group an got a full 8min session with little traffic. Rear end is still wild (combination of sub par semis and 0 toe in). Lowered the pb by 2 secs and put the Nittos on in case I snuck into the top 10 shootout. Alas, with retirements, missed out by 0.17s which could have lifted me as high as P5-7 over all. Was disappointed to not get the seat time I've been itching for but could have been worse. Still scope for a lot more improvement next time, albeit, months away before we're back at logic. May sneak back to Winton for another t and t before then
  20. SAU Nickname: Mitch_Dubya Car Make and Model: R33 GTS-T LS1 Circuit Name: Winton (first time) Lap time: 1:39.7X Modifications: ext lcas neg 7deg, big wang, surge, locked dif, Engine: LS1 with mild cam Power: 260rwkw Suspension: cusco coilovers Tyres: (F) old as f**k Nitto semis (R) piss poor Nankangs Brakes: standard and completely f**ked (see pic below) Body weight: est. 1200kgs, fully stripped inc dash, door cards, light weight bonnet and boot, lighter drivetrain, no cage at the time very green to racing and first time at Winton. I left smiling but knowing there was a couple more seconds in the car with a better driver. The brakes were down to metal and still managed to set my best time on the second last lap for the day. Looking forward to having another crack with new brakes (inc braided lines, rotors and cooling), more seat time and better rubber.
  21. Caution: newby question time! Anyone got any advice on what would be the next most effective mod for this rig? Obviously the first thing is seat time Second, third and fourth is seat time... I get it, I'm working on it. 260rwkw is more than I know what to do with I believe I've got a standard diff, welded, which should cost me time via less drive out of the corners yes? I don't know much about it but I'm looking at $800 - $1200 for a mechanical 2 way? Any better options? Thoughts or advice? Not worth it at this stage? The massive neg camber strikes me as another limiting factor. It's got extended lcas, cut and shut outside of the tension rod etc. so replacing with standard should be straight forward and cheap. Currently is got around -7deg and 3 - 3.5 would be ideal. Should I go standard or slightly less extended? Is that going to make a difference at all. The old man doesn't seem to think it's worth the effort. This is turn 3 at Winton It look like it still hasn't got the outside wheel flat. I'm obviously going to chew tires out quicker so I've been sticking to cheap shit/2nd hand tires for now. This car will do equal parts drift/motorkhana and grip/hill climb ideally so I was reluctant to get rid of all the camber and lose some sideways stability I've got. Again, thoughts? Suggestions? What's the you say? Shut up and get some more seat time?!? Thanks
