Have a question about the coolant routing for the motor, and how it should be done on a single turbo conversion. First, a picture of how the stock style is.. The green dots are the sources of coolant. The one in the front of the motor is the small barb off the aluminum radiator neck coming off the block. The one on the intake side rear is the source by the heater feeds. The one on the exh side rear is the hole in the block. There are 3 sources of coolant, so can one of those sources be eliminated? Check the pic below for single setup... Note how i'm trying to block the coolant source coming from the neck for a cleaner look. That hose is ugly and it seems to just Y-in with the other hose from the intake side rear. Or do I have to run it like this? Anyone know how the water flows around the block, or where "hot" water and "cold" water are? I assume the source by the radiator neck is the "hot"... Those who have done it or know how the aftermarket single turbo kits (hks, greddy, etc.) are setup.. please let me know if I can eliminate the front source. thanks. A mspaint drawing would be helpful too

i agree. i'm not saying it is not possible with some minor fixes to the afm correction tables. all i am saying is that it is not a plug in and go type deal. it definitely will need a retune because your load cells at a minimum will be off, even if the rb26 just averages the signal.
-
hmm, if the PFC does an average.. lets take the following example scenario. Running 2 z32 mafs in the standard setup... afm1 shows 3.01 volts. afm2 shows 2.99 volts. average is 3 volts, and i'm flowing say X units of air set it up in parallel and run just afm1. duplicate the voltage reading to afm2. because I was flowing X units of air before, in order to flow that same X units of air through my single afm, my afm is going to read higher voltage, no? cuz now I only have 1 afm. now we have half the cross sectional area so my single maf is going to be "working harder". then clone the signal to both afm's and we get say 3.50 volts. PFC is going to see 3.5 volts for X units of air instead of 3 volts for X units of air. Its still going to think you're flowing more air than you really are and the motor will run rich. I could see it working if your MAF sensor was removed and placed into a tube with exactly twice the cross sectional area of a single z32 maf. Basically, instead of two 80mm MAFs you would need to run (2 x 5026 mm^2) of cross sectional area which happens to be a single ~113 mm MAF. Is this a valid argument?

Does Anyone Know What Nissan Turbo Has M14x1.5 Banjo Bolts
gawdzilla replied to Adriano's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i think the water line T coming out of the rb26 block underneath the rear turbo is M14x1.5 banjo.. i just bought an AN fitting for it. maybe someone else can confirm. -
Thanks for the replies guys. the reason rob mentioned this was b/c of my theoretical example above... basically if the PFC is summing the two voltages and making a calculation and you simply just parallel the signal, the pfc will THINK you are flowing twice as much air when you actually only have one MAF, hence the voltage divider. However, as someone mentioned, the air flow vs. voltage is no linear, so you cannot just divide by 2. if the PFC parallel's the signal, it still seems like it would THINK more air is coming in when it really isnt. Regardless of the above, i would think making a rough guess at a curve should be okay, since we have complete adjustability in the 20x20 for fueling and timing. Worst case it will just have poor resolution when moving down the N Load (Y-axis) of the pfc... either being too sensitive and moving down the Y axis way too fast, or being not sensitive and sticking on the same Y coordinate, kind of like the MAF is maxed out. EDIT: Just read the link provided by GeeTR, and it seemed to end inconclusively I don't think anyone has concrete proof of this working yet with airflow curves and configuration.

just noticed i'm not supposed to post questions inside the FAQ/tutorial forum... so here goes according to the paul's FAQ on the PFC: "One AFM: If you are using one airflow meter you can simply parrallel up the airflow meter signal into the second input on the RB26 ecu. The ECU will average out both signals despite it coming from the same airflow meter to work out engine load (or airflow load). " I want to do this to my 26, and ideally run a single GM LS1 MAF or Lightning 90mm MAF. Is this confirmed to be true? It would seem that doing this would make the PFC think twice as much air is being flowed, no? For example, if you parallel the signal, and say you are reading 2.5V on a single z32 MAF. This is then duplicated to both inputs, so wont the PFC think you are running two z32 MAFs at 2.5V and put you much further down the load map than you want to be? Seems like it to me.. or is the 26 PFC really just doing an avg'ing?

sorry, just saw not supposed to ask questions here. i've made a new post in the forced induction forum.. -
Thanks for the offer Col. Sadly, tomorrow is my last full day in town My flight out is Sunday around noon.

Finally done with work as of about 7pm today. Anything going on tomorrow guys? I'm pretty much free all day.. please feel free to reply, don't be shy. Sadly i don't have a car but am willing to hitch a taxi ride somewhere if something is happening in or outside the city. Thanks!

hey, good times meeting up this past tuesday. thanks for coming out guys. i had fun meeting a handful of members and seeing their cars. thanks for coming to pick me up, Lee. I really like it here.. seen lots of cool cars, very friendly people. Is anything going on Thursday night this week? anyone wanna drive me to some shops on Saturday to buy some parts? I could use a bosch 044 pump, fuel sump tank maybe, etc.
-
Thanks for the offer, but Falconias (Lee) also offered to give me a ride there, so I'm gonna be heading there with him. Looking forward to meeting you folks tomorrow! I'll bring my camera to take some pics
-
i've replied to the thread. 90% sure i'll be able to make the dinner... just need to arrange a ride. btw watching cars go by in the opposite side of the road/observing traffic is so weird. totally not used to it yet
-
most likely I will be able to attend... but will need a ride someone plz volunteer to pick up an american tourist! i'm up in the Marriott so not too far. whats the dress like? casual?
-
so i've arrived... loving it so far nice weather/cars/etc. saw a nice s15 spec R today and a bunch of skylines already... none of this good stuff in the states :sorcerer:
-
Dinner on Tuesday sounds like a definite possibility, depending on when I finish up with work. I'll be online hopefulyl Sunday/Monday to check on updates. I'm arriving early Sunday morning, but most likely won't be able to show for the auto salon due to jet lag

R32 Gtr And Small Single Turbo (sst) Upgrade
gawdzilla replied to Beer Baron's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
a bit off topic, but what fittings (sizes/threads/braided lines) are typically used for going single on the 26? How is the water feed (ugly 4 way junction between cyl 3 and 4) resolved for braided line? same for oil feed and water return? blocking of the rear oil return and using the front oil return threaded fitting? can someone point me to a "kit" if possible or have a resource w/ the thread sizes of these ports? -
Update to this thread... I'm gonna be staying here Brisbane Marriott Hotel (http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/BNEDT?WT_Ref=eResConfo) from 10/29 to 11/12... whats happening during the evenings here guys?

Braided Oil And New Water Lines For Rb25 High Flow (sliding)
gawdzilla replied to ix9's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
dont mean to thread jack, but i'm looking for the same for my 26. its slightly more complicated since there are 2 of everything, but what vendor should i contact for these lines and blockoffs(for extra ports)? -

Good Rb26 Single Turbo Manifold?
gawdzilla replied to gawdzilla's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
thanks for the input.. i dont see a 26 mani listed under exoticspeed. i'll inquire via email about it... The gcg one is a T3, i'd prefer a T4 flange if possible... anyone else have experience? hows the quality of justjap or roguepi? i think they are forum vendors -
Looking to get a T4 flanged single turbo manifold, top mount. Anyone have any experience with specific ones? I've seen vendors like Justjap, roguepi, etc. selling these manifolds, but its really hard to tell quality from just looking at pictures. I already know to stay away from ssautochrome, xs-power, etc... please advise, thanks. A manifold that will fit a left-hand drive car would be preferable, where the wastegate tube doesnt go right into it, but i realize this may not be possible for anyone to know. my car is a left hand drive s14. btw I am in the US, so preferably someone who will ship to the states... its tough to find decent single manis here.

thanks for the replies guys... been away from the forum a bit b/c i recently spun a bearing (or so i think) in my 26. For some info, read up here: http://forums.freshalloy.com/showthread.php?t=156818 That being said, depending on what is dead, I may be looking for parts. I can pretty much get bearings/head/pistons replacements in the states, but coming across a decent manifold may be difficult. I also have to keep in mind that a GTR manifold may not fit into my chassis, since we have left hand drive. also the bay of the S chassis is a bit tighter than skylines. I'll post up when the time comes for a visit to see if i can contact some members. I'll have email access while there, but probably not much voice/phone access..

I'm going to be in Brisbane end of october through early/mid november... I'm from the U.S. so looking forward to seeing the used parts market and any shops or places that have RB26, RB25, or Subaru parts! Are there any types of places that carry used parts like Autobacs/Upgarage in Brisbane? Thanks guys, me and some friends in the states have RB powered S chassis cars...
