Could I have your suggestions on this one please... R34 GTT with moderate mods (e-manage, fmic, greddy e-01, 3.5" full exhaust, etc) Water dripping out of engine block. Can't take it anywhere for a skyline specialist to check as engine might cook. So I was forced to arrange for call-out service with a non-skyline specialist. He did a pressure test and concluded that one of the welsch plugs has gone. I rang Mark at Hills Motor Sport, Mark at MRC and Peter at Advan. I gave them the rundown and basically asked them to assume that it's a welsch plug job. Hills says it'll be a 2hr+ job to check/replace at least two of the welsch plugs. Then do a pressure test to check if any of the other plugs give way. If so will need to change them as well. Ultimately might need to take engine out and replace all of them. MRC says will first check to make sure it's the welsch plugs. If definite will be better off taking out the engine and replace all of the plugs. Logic is if one plug is gone, then the rest are surely on their way out. Replacing all of them would ensure repeat job is no longer necessary. It will be a big job though. Peter of Advan's initial reaction though was that of disbelief that it could be a plug for such a new car (1999). His theory was that it would most likely have to be a coolant hose somewhere on the right side of the engine (if you're facing the front of the car). I liked that idea because it would mean that it'll be lighter on the pocket to get it fixed. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Thursday night. After a long day at work (still in my office clothes). Just driving my 10 yr old to her dance class. My wife was also in the car. Just going through our normal routine. All of a sudden a siren and flashing blue from behind. I pull over. Two cops come out. One Aussie, one of Asian background. Pull out my license. I wind down my window and ask the young Aussie officer "What have I done wrong officer?" The officer hesitates a bit (maybe surprised that it wasn't the kind of person he expected driving the "hotted up" nissan turbo coupe) and smilingly says "Oh it's nothing sir just a random breath test-could you pop up the bonnet for me please". Breath test clear. Asian cop inspects the engine bay. Clear. They go to the side of the car and check the clearance between the tyre and fender. Clear. One cop goes behind the car while the other asks me to rev the engine up to 4,000 rpm (I've got a full 3.5" HKS system with a cannon tip). Clear! Asian dude is not satisfied. He begins to quizz me about the blockout window beside the driver's door. I said "what!". Aussie officer pulls him away and says to me "have a good night sir, you can go". They speed off into the night in their XR6 cop car slightly breaking traction. My time wasted. Their time unwisely spent. Great!

dOOdz I suggest you try the www.maa.nsw.gov.au calculator as recommended by razorsharp. If the final amount remains at $560+ then you must be considered high risk. Do you have a bad driving history?

Unfortunately, the maa site is your only option. Whoever comes up with the cheapest quote would have to be your best bet. Remember that the price of your greenslip will depend on your driving history/circumstances and not solely on your age. Therefore, if someone else (even around the same age as you) gets quoted a much cheaper price, that basically indicates that he is considered by the insurer to be of much less risk to them than you are. These risks are carefully considered by the insurers. Remember that your $300-$400 a year could potentially pay for literally millions of dollars on a single claim depending on the severity of the injury. Generally, the level of risk (hence the price of the insurance cover) is based on where you live, the car you drive and how old you are. In other words, if you live in an area where, statistically, there is a high rate of motor vehicle accidents and you drive a high-powered vehicle and you belong to an accident-prone age group, then you will be slugged with a relatively high premium.

Now If i were buy a T for $40000 and even spend $40000 on it (80K in total) it would kill the GTR. Its the same as buying a VL turbo for 10K spending 30K on it to match the price of a new Stock T, the vl would kill the T. But you have to agree all aussie performance cars are bargains and have enormous performance potential, so up the T.... ... I had a very interesting run yesterday with a Skyline GTR, which was maybe 3-4 years old. It was all riced up both inside and out and we both thought we'd give it whirl at the lights. Interestingly, at the same time an AUIII XR6 ute pulled up at the lights as well on my left side, which I thought nothing off. Anyway, lights go green, I've mashed the pedal and the Skyline is struggling for traction and sliding all over the place. I've pulled about a car length in front and by then the race was well and truly over so I eased off the pedal (doing about 130 in an 80 zone). However, the biggest surprise was that the AU ute also beat him as well. So, at the next set of lights, the Skyline boy didn't even try, however, the Ute boy was up for another run. This time the Ute dumps the clutch, tyres screeching, trying to keep pace and within 30-40m I already had half a car length on him, when I thought why bother? Just goes to show that it sometimes doesn't matter how much power the car has got, if the setup isn't right, you are going to get beat by Ford taxi... Gee, I love the T.....and its stock. ... For those who haven't seen a GTR in decent shape run. Here's a clip. At least you can see what you'll be up against. The GTR was lightly modded. Take note of the launch. And the mustang rocks! The Nur (Nürburgring) edition is the final edition of the R34 Skyline GT-R. It features a racing version of the Inline-6 that will push upwards of 450 horsepower when unrestricted. Only 1000 were made so here we go for your weight problem, Skyline GTR 2002 R34 Nur weight is heavier then the T. so if you are paying that extra just for the traction and suspension, then it is not worth it mate, spend that much on Your T, you will have much better result. yeah, as said that a enzo cost 2 to 3 times some people's house, it just depends where you live. ...

ZigenGT before you spend money on something that may turn out to be a non-issue, I would suggest that you re-gap your plugs to between 0.7 and 0.8 mm. This is definitely needed for any moderate tune-up of your RB25. It only takes approx 1/2 hour of your time.

My thoughts... Is you suspension system height adjustable? If so is it set to lowest? Check if the spring or any part of the system is actually rubbing against your front tyres. If so, readjust height.

I love my skyline. But I wouldn't mind getting the R8 LS2 especiailly the upcoming one with the track pack (smaller but wider 18" wheels, track spec rubber). Why? Because, in its current form the Commodore SS beats the R8 around Eastern Creek by about 0.4 of a second. Still the R8 clocks a 1:55.96 at the creek. That's truly impressive. I would still keep the R34 and I'll have the best of both worlds...literally

I had steering wheel vibration at 100-110 kph. Toyo TPGs wet and dry quite pleased with them so far...and the vibration was completely gone

My car looks obviously modified and to be quite honest I do get somewhat nervous when I go out for a drive anyday. The reason being the bad general reputation of Japanese imports. It takes away a bit of the pleasure of owning and using one. I have been pulled over twice in 2003 for being slightly over the speed limit but was sent off with a warning on both occasions. At my age, the police must know that I'm not into hooning around. Plus, my driving history is quite untarnished. It's a risky thing this skyline ownership. Three years on however I have no regrets whatsoever

Unfortunately I don't think any articles ever came up on these comparos. Your best bet would be to either buy the DVD or borrow one from someone who has it

Somebody mentioned earlier on about the comparo between the XR6T and R34 GTT in Serious Peformance 7. The modified white R34 GTT driven by Ric Shaw was mine. It was ran against a 300kw XR6T owned by the president of the XR6T Forums (bunch of narrow-minded fanatics). Mine had approx 220kw at the flywheel at the time. If you listen to Warren Luff's (XR6T) comments he said he felt that the skyline was faster. It was also concluded that the skyline, which has a great deal of R&D behind it is the better choice for modifying. As far as the comparo between the other two stock cars (gray XR6T and black four door R34 from Powerplay) the verdict was that the XR6T was the faster and better handler over all. Ric Shaw's comment was that the 34 felt like a limo with a bit more power in it. In other words, stock for stock, the XR6T would be on top. However, I haven't met any performance car enthusiast who has not succumbed to the joys of modifying his/her toy.

I've put all the mods one can buy. The car is pumping 634 hp. The only things missing are the last two under the lightening section (roll cage and body rigidity) Car's dropped down to approx 95 mm. Suspension set up is the trick. Car simply sticks to the ground. By the way this was a clean run...did not lose control at all.

Copy of my police statement follows... POLICE STATEMENT “Road Rage” Incident on 1 September 2004 1. My name is _____________. I currently live at _____________________________________, married with a nine year old daughter. I carry a Class C driver’s license number __I have been driving in Australia for the last twelve (12) years. I have an excellent driving history. I have never been issued with any infringement notices by the police. I have never been convicted in relation to any criminal activity. 2. This statement relates to a “road rage” incident that occurred on Wednesday, 1 September 2004, at approximately 7:10 pm. The location of this incident was at the right hand turning bay near the intersection of Richmond Road and Woodcroft Drive, WOODCROFT. The weather was fine but, being night time, it was already dark. I was driving my vehicle, a 1999 Nissan Skyline Coupe (R34) with registration number __My daughter ________ was with me at the time. She was seated at the front passenger seat. 3. It was at this location and at approximately the above indicated time that I was attacked by another motorist with a heavy blunt object. I believe this object may have been similar to a police type baton. As a result of this attack I sustained contusion injuries to my left elbow, the left side of my chest, my left lower leg and across my upper back. My vehicle also sustained damage (smashed rear windscreen) as a result of the attack. Unfortunately, I was unable to obtain the registration number of the offending motorist’s vehicle. 4. The preceding circumstances of the above incident are as follows: 5. At approximately 6:45 pm on the same night (Wednesday, 1 September 2004) I, with my daughter Samantha as passenger, was driving my vehicle ________ in a westerly direction along Quakers Hill Parkway. We then came to a red traffic light at the next intersection (Quakers Hill Parkway and Eastern Road). All four vehicles were virtually in their same respective positions as in the previous intersection (Hambledon Road). I still noticed that the driver of the mustard/yellow Lancer was turning his head towards our direction. We again proceeded along Quakers Hill Parkway as the lights turned green. At this point, the driver of the mustard/yellow Lancer shot forward and cut into my lane. I wasn’t really surprised at what he did because Quakers Hill Parkway becomes one lane at this point and as he was to my left, his lane would have been one that merges into mine. However, approximately 300 metres past the intersection of Quakers Hill Parkway and Eastern Road, the driver of the mustard/yellow Lancer suddenly stopped in the middle of the one-lane road. He was stopped for at least 20 seconds. It was at this point that I suspected that the driver was apparently trying to intimidate me. I beeped at him and he started moving forward. We then continued along Quakers Hill Parkway, through the intersection with Quakers Road. 8. As we approached the roundabout at the intersection of Quakers Hill Parkway and Richmond Road, I decided to veer towards the left lane. I was intending to take the Richmond Road route to reach Woodcroft which is where we reside. It was at this point along Quakers Hill Parkway that I went past the Lancer. The Lancer was in the right lane of the road. After having passed the Lancer, I noticed that he quickly changed into the left lane behind my vehicle and started following me. I turned left onto Richmond Road. The Lancer did likewise. 9. At the intersection of Richmond Road and Woodcroft Drive, I situated my vehicle onto the right turning bay. The right-turn arrow at that intersection was red. There was a vehicle in front of me, a gold Holden Commodore (possibly a VT). I then noticed that the Lancer which had followed my vehicle was still behind me. I noticed the driver’s door open and the occupant jumped out. He was running towards my position. I decided to jump out of my vehicle and approach him. Before I was able to get out of my vehicle, this assailant struck the rear windscreen of my vehicle with what I believe was a police type baton. I continued to approach him asking him “What are you doing?” He then proceeded to strike me with the baton. I remember using my left arm to try to fend of his attack. I remember the baton striking my left arm several times. I also remember the baton striking the left side of my body as well as my back at least three times. 10. The assailant then must have somehow dropped the baton because I wasn’t getting hit by it anymore. I then tried to subdue him. I was in the process of grabbing the attacker when someone approached us and introduced himself as a “police officer”. This man ordered the person who attacked me to go back into his vehicle. This man also gave me the same instruction. I tried to explain to this “police officer” that the other guy had just attacked me and damaged my vehicle. The “police officer” continued to instruct me to stay in my car. As we both were in the process of walking back onto my vehicle, I turned my head towards the direction of where the assailant’s vehicle was situated. I then noticed that the vehicle had already left the scene. I then asked the “police officer” if he was at least able to get the registration number of the vehicle…he said no. He then said something like “there is nothing much we can do”. It was at this point that I contacted the police through my mobile phone. In the meantime, the “police officer” handed out a business card to me. He asked me to contact him in case I needed help in this case. The “police officer’s” name is ____________. Mr _______ is president of the _______ PCYC and resides at _________________, _________. He can be reached on _________. 11. As it was very dark, it is very difficult to provide an accurate description of the person who attacked me. I believe however that he is of Asian background, most likely of _______ descent. He was wearing a bonnet which dropped onto the road while I was trying to tackle him. I noticed then that he had medium length thick wavy hair. The colour of his hair is black. He sports a goatie. His height is approximately 160-165 cm. He is of thin to medium build. He was wearing a dark-coloured jumper or long-sleeved shirt. He was wearing a pair of dark-coloured jeans. 12. I make the above statement and believe it to be true to the best of my knowledge.
