what are you wanting to use braided or standard lines i know that the high presure line on the block fitting is a m12 thread size as for turbo i dont know never had a standard turbo if you can its best to take the line of seeing as though you have to take it of anyway or you have no line at all and need to make one just find some bolts that fight both ends a braided line from block to turbo cost $70 AUS so its worth it sorta as for water my turbo is not water cooled and is a banjo fitting on glock which i blocked off so all in all im not much help am i??? turbos i think are t28 garrets if i can remember correctly

advice appreciated thanks as for money it costs what it costs i dont care but your saying that i have to put the engine back together just to leak test it???? there has to another way surley? if it came to that i would by the forgies and rings get the block honed and the head flowed i dont want to have to put the head on just to test and yes if they find that the valves are the cause ill be doing them to what are your thought and head work for the RB20 blind elk?? also lets just sat that the head comes back tested fine it could only be piston and ring prob am i right??? if so can i just change the rings if the pistons are fine??? -

thanks man the advice is great but the head came off 2 days ago cuz i was told the head gasket was ***ed anyway does it matter should an experianced engine shop tell me what is wrong or have i ****ed up and taken the head off to soon as for labour i have never paid $1 in labour for any mech work i am pretty good with a spanner and have good friends in the trade who in a good way will come round and help but just sit there and tell me what to do it is the best way to learn and the easiest way not to **** up (thanks dave) but anyway if worse comes to worse how bad can it be if the compression is down at 115 on all the other cyl would i be looking at a new rebuild cuz looks fresh as the bore still has machine swirls sort of thing and there is no lip from where the rings stop pistons look great ??? is it possible to just replace the rings and shit or do i need new pistons even if they are in great shape the reason i ask is the missus wants to move to sydney asap otherwise i would save and bye forged and do the lot head and bottom end but i have to do this asap i suppose my Q is that if i took the head to the engine place will he be able to tell if there is anything wrong with it ??? if there is notthing wrong with it does this mean it has to be bottom end. EI.... rings ect.. -

psi at all but cyl 3 where bout 115 is this corect number 3 was bout 55 does this tell anyone anything also there was no sign of any leakage any where i drove the car for bout 15 min before i checked the leak but it was all from the hose saw the elect today he said that he did not know if it was gasket just thought it was when on the hoist water pissing out from near the block thats all so i am still getting the head checked on monday if it ok it is stayin for a port and flow and tidy up does that just leave the piston, rings and ect... as the culprit??? and do i have to pull out the motor out to check all these ( i know its a stupid Q but its worth a try )? -
hey guys i have a few probs with my RB20 so this Q is for those that know the rb20 fairly well or any knowledge of engine building maybe sydneykid could offer some addvice well my prob is this the car was at the auto elects for other reasons they did a compression test on the engine and found cyl 3 to be down i dont know by how much. they also said that it was leaking from the block suspect head gasket i ave the car at home now and just today pulled the head of with a friend in the mech business for bout 10 years. but as i found that when i removed the imlet i found that the leak was on a hose near the block. When the head came off we found no break in the gasket and the bottom end looks brand new (says my friend) eaither has no kays on it or has been recentley rebiult. Anyway the head also looks great so what we cant work out is why the compression is bad on three it still has copmression but not much i dont know exactleywhat the reading was but the pistons look perfect does any one know what the prob could be maybe rings?? and is there a way to check if the rings are broken with out pulling the bottom end apart??? or is there other possibilities the head will be pressure tested through next week but i have not an idea where or what the prb could be any help from anyone woulb be great we both are stumped thanks in advance matt

lincorp automotive 02 96845777 head gasket gen nissan $130 VRS kit $260 as for boost its all bout detonation if the motor is detonating then there is a fair chance that the head gasket wont last regardless just tune motor for safe before detonation Sorry did not see GTR or i did not read it anyway these prices are for rb20 but give em a call neway

hey guys im looking at dong the head gasket on the rb20 after suspect cylinder three has dropped compression anyway the engine is rooted drove it firdt time yesterday after a 8 month of road build on my silvia we think head gasket but are not sure still deciding weather to build or buy replacemant engine but we are pulling the head off anyway to see if the prob is just head if the bottom end fine ill get the head flowed replace the valves ect... my Q is how much have people paid for head gasket, VRS kit and apparantley there is a full engine kit with all the gaskets for inlet, exhaust, and the rest is this correct??? i have 2 prices for the gaskets gen nissan head gasket $550 trade price and bout $700 normally lincorp automotive head gasket $139 VRS kit $260 does this seam correct are there any other places to get them this cheap?? thanks for your time finally this is what it look like after 8 months and finally done

the compression test was done cold i only know this because the car wont start i have #6 injector being held open causing hydrolic lock and i have no spark this was way out of my leauge auto elect did the check still waiting for the car to come back then ill do a compression test myself ive been told to do a wet test which i suppose you lube the cylinder first with a bit of oil cuz the engine has been dorment for bout a year assumed problem is a stuck valve??? does this sound right???

thanks shaun i do not require the long motor now we discovered that it was low on compression because the valves in three where stuck causing the low compression after a couple of days of running in it freed up the motor had been sitting for a bout a year but all is good any way thanks for the response matt

i have had this discussion with friends before 1 the government cant make y sell ur car 2 how can they enforce it... will they drive round with trailers equiped with dynos and a scale to determine illegal i tell u if the later happens ill follow them around just fot he dyno run but seriosly a agree with the law sort of but with a few changes yes u should be restricted on in some way untill off P's remain restricted until a type of special license is earnt by advanced driver courses defensive driver couses ect... i for 1 would be happy with that and yes i am on my P,s and yes i started out in a 98 lancer coupe i know own a very high powered silvia and yes i have completed a advanced driver course but still this does not make me a good driver as it has been said its all in the attitude and also in the confidence to confident = ****y ..more than likely to cause an accident not enough = not committed or focused on there surroundings safety is not payed for in taxes so the law would prove usless in the long term safety is learnt and the road is respected if the government wants to tax me than put it to good use pay for the education of safe driving P.S sorry to get all diplomatic but this has been pissing me off for months someone should email this thread to mr howard get him to become a member and see if he can b/s his way out of this discussion P.P.S im dead serious bout the last comment email the nob!!!! -

thanks all al the above info helps heaps at the moment i dont know what state the engine is in at all the full story goes like this seen a silvia advetised with rb20 smashed front end pretty serious bent chassis rail all straight dead flat panels full black respray with purple pearl the car was built by TOKYO TOYS so i knew is was the goods the car blew the brake master brake master and caused the acco there are no brake master cyls in the country for a ABS eqquiped silvia replaced with a patrol cyl brand new found that all the turbo was siezed, manifold, dump pipe, and turbo was held by a few bolts new turbo found on ebay t3 rear and a lrgaer than t4 front been highflowed and rebuiltfor some reason it was made by borg warner???? i dont fnow what type of turbo it is but its big. had custom manifold made for it high mount with a 38 mm tial wastegate 3 inch now turbo back, front mount, brand new Xtreme clutch, master cyl slave cyl, gtr fuel pump and ignighters after nearly $17,000 later she was ready to start but no spark and #6 injector being held open flooding 6 off to the auto elects bad news did a compression test 50% down on cylinder 3 compared to the others i think that my life has ended and wwas up for a rebuild but in the last few days some close friends have said that this could be for many reasons 1 that could be that the valve was siezed cuz the motor hasnt been run in bout a year and might need a splash of oil to get it going so at the end of the day fingers crossed that is all it is so by the end of the week we should have engineers report blue slip and rego and maybe i can free up the engine and get some compression if not then im going the rebuild so that is the full story does anyone know of this happening to someone and does it sound like a realistic problem P.S all the above parts were purchased because the where A) foorked eg.. turbo, clutch or B) missing eg.. T4 that was in the add and the fuel pump i coulnt see it this car has been bad luck since i bought it that is why i assumed that the engine is cooked it just ties in with the theme of the car i was ripped off (not really) and now my ass is bleeding cuz of it

cheers guys but i rang nearly every wrecker i trust in sydney that i got shit from before and cheapest is $1100 the price has gone up heaps in bout 6 months last time i checked they where $750 and that was from SSS automotive now they are $1100 but to my own contradiction i can get a set of forgies with rings for bout 100 dearer than standard so i will be using forgiesand aside from the piston and rings what else do i need (obvious gasket kit)?

hey people just a few Qs 1 .. does anyone know where i can get a rebuild kit for a rb20 silver from and how much? 2 .. what else is involved.. ie..machineing? ect.. ? (3 and 4 are not QS) 3 .. i just want a standard rebuild no forgies or anything just standard. 4 .. yes i can do all assembly myself just need the parts, cost and location? also im not after people to tell me its not worth it... or just put this in... or just do this ...or do that i would love to do all that but i have spent to much money based on the rb20 so changing is out of the Q at the moment also have priced a second hand engine frow wreckers still weighs in at $1200 at least id rather spend a bit more and have a brand spanker under the bonnet and not another time bomb thanks to all who reply your info is greatly appreciated matt

hey people im looking to buy a long motor rb20 silver top ie... just the block and head nothing more must be between sydney and coffs harbour and in good condition as i have no compresion in cyl 3 it not worth a rebuild just want 2 replace guys any response will be appreciated matt
