Registering Engine Swapped Car in NSW
nitznair replied to nitznair's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Sure thing bro. My mate in QLD will be doing the swap. His done it to his own car up there but they dont have to deal with engineering. Just Mod Plates and you're good. This is twin turbo LS swap -
Registering Engine Swapped Car in NSW

Hahahaha, thanks for the encouraging words mate. I did a fair bit of research online and asked around before i jumped into this. The whole swap if registered successfully, will definitely be unique. One of a kind in NSW 😉. A to Z do all testing in house. They use the dyno method to test emissions. Even if it fails, they will know what needs to be done, to pass it. Also they're based in QLD, so they dont seem too expensive or "strict" like the lot back here in Shitney 🤣 I would have gone RB or 2JZ swap but the engines are older than the chassis, therefore harder to engineer. I am essentially putting a newer engine into an older car with the L76. Once engineering is done and i have paperwork in hand then nobody needs to know if the car gets cammed or something 😉😉🤣🤣🤣 -

Registering Engine Swapped Car in NSW

Bought the newest Euro 6 Cats for the build. According to what I've read, i need to pass the emissions standards of the year of my car's manufacture date, which is 2003. My car came with Euro 3 standard cats. The L76 engine came with Euro 4 cats. So my cats are solid. Yes ill be using the Calais stock ECU with a custom wiring loom from the states, to ensure all the stock gauges etc work. Will be doing the swap and an "emissions friendly" tune before i do engineering. Engineer will be consulted before i do any mods. Engineering at A to Z motorsports will cost $900-$2100 max, according to them. I've set aside $2500 for this. If it exceeds this amount, am f'ed 🤣💵 -

If the Blue Slip is an easy enough thing to get, then am not too bothered about it now. I'd like to have a fair idea of whats required so i can make plans to get them done, and have the paperwork ready. If i can save 30mins of my time and $40 in the process, then why not lol. According to what i've read, the hardest thing to pass with engineering is emissions. That's what everyone fails at least once. Most engineers say if its a straight engine/tranny/diff sway from one car to another, then its not too hard to certify (which mine is). Getting bigger brakes is another thing, which my car already has. A to Z imports will be handling all the Engineering and Emissions stuff - https://www.atozimports.com.au/ Also this is what service NSW says about registering a modified vehicle -

Putting a 6.0l LY76 from a newer 2009 VE Calais into a 2003 Nissan Skyline V35, which came with a 3.5L VQ35DE. Engineer says its doable and can be engineered provided it passes emissions and brake tests etc. That's all the contact I've had with him Would I still need a blue slip if its engineered? Wont an engineers cert be a more through inspection, compared to a blue slip? -

https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/change-vehicles-engine-details According to them, only need a Engineers Certificate or Blue slip. So since i will be getting engineers cert, wont need the Blue Slip aye? -

That's what my understanding is as well. As mentioned before, Service NSW says that to update the rego i need either a Vehicle Compliance Certificate (if applicable) aka Engineers Cert, AUVIS (unregistered vehicle inspection report) or a HVAIS (heavy vehicle unregistered vehicle inspection report and heavy vehicle safety check inspection report). I will get it engineered either way, so my understanding is, in terms of documentation, I just need an Engineers Report, a filled Change of records form and fees to "re-register" it. Car is still registered so technically its just a change or records aye? And if it goes out of rego, according to their website ill need either one of those three things mentioned above to register it? -
Registering Engine Swapped Car in NSW

Currently registered. Engine bought, swapping to commence soon. I am the owner. -
Hey guys! Does anyone know the process of registering an engine swapped car in NSW? Provided the engine swap and all mods have been fully certified and I have an engineers certificate, what are the next steps to follow, to register the car? A quick google search says to change the engine details of my car with Service NSW?, i need the following - your proof of identity your current registration details one of the following: a Vehicle Compliance Certificate (if applicable) AUVIS (unregistered vehicle inspection report) HVAIS (heavy vehicle unregistered vehicle inspection report and heavy vehicle safety check inspection report) the PDF form – 'Change of Records'. Does anyone have experience doing this? Are these the proper steps to follow? Just take the documents and head into Service NSW? Any ideas on fees associated with the process? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ahhh gotcha. Yep no silly things like dark tints, slammed to the ground, overly loud exhaust, driving like a dumb flamin mongrel etc aye 🤣🤣. Just try to look and drive as "stock" as possible 😉🤣🤣 -

And then once you pass emissions, get a custom straight pipe done aye? 🤣 Once you get the engineers, its just doing pink slips yearly and rego? No more dramas yeah? -

Would putting on a bunch of catalytic converters lower emissions? Say for example you have 4 cats on your exhaust, instead of the usual 2 -

Ohhhh it has to pass current emissions standards? That's f**ked! Lol. Mines a 2003 V35 Skyline, thats going to be LS swapped 😂😂 That would be really helpful bro. Do let me know if he replies please. -

What mods have you gotten certified bro? For what car? -

Yes i agree with you mate. I need to talk with FINK and some others, and find out if the plans i have for the LS swap, will be certifiable. Like u said, no point doing everything and finding out the car cant be registered. Better to get an engineer on board from the get go. Someone that sees things how i see them, and isn't out to make a quick buck at my expense. Who did you communicate with at Fink? Any email address? I think they're in Wollongong and i am Western Sydney side. -

Thanks heaps for this information on the brakes bro! Had no clue. These big brakes that i have on my car at the moment, were offered in in a later/different model of the same car. The 2003 Auto V35 came with 2 pot brakes but the same year manual came with 4 pot brakes. Those are the brakes i have on, but i do get your point that it needs to be certified. I was hoping to get the car certified in QLD coz if there are any issues arising from the conversion, that are picked during the certification process, the conversion shop can rectify them there and then. Saves me finding a shop here in NSW to rectify issues, if something were to arise. That way the shop and the engineer can work together to ensure everything goes smoothly. Like get everything sorted in QLD and then just rego the car here. Getting certified in NSW is defiently an option, provided i don't have to pay 5k for a track! LOL. Time to find someone who will conduct the test on the M4 hahaha! -

Sorry on being a lil vague mate. Car is currently registered in NSW and will remain registered here. Why i wanted to get a mod plate is that i wanted to get the engineering certificate done in QLD as well. The car will be going to QLD to get the engine conversion done so might as well get a mod plate and engineers certificate done there. Yeah i dont need a mod plate if the car will be registered in NSW, but if i am getting the engineers certificate in QLD, might as well get a mod plate there for extra brownie points aye! LOL. Like the engineer doing the certificate in QLD might see the mod plate and go easy on the car? That's my thinking lol. There are a few Engineers in QLD that are recognized and approved by Service NSW. So might as well get the Engineers Certificate done there, while the car is there. I just got a reply from an engineer here in NSW. He says that since the engine power will increase by over 20% after the conversion, i will need to hire a track here in NSW for $5500 ,to do a brake test!!! WTF!! Is that a thing? I already have a big brake kit on the car. Did FINK tell you about costs and what tests needed to be done etc? Going from a 3.5L V6 to a 6.0L V8 😁 -

Thanks for the response mate. So i am looking at getting my V35 Skyline LS Swapped by a shop in QLD. They've done alot of these swaps in the past and didn't have any issues get them mod plated in QLD. After looking around forums and asking people, I now realize that the car will need to be engineered by a VSCCS licensed certifier. Looking at the Service NSW website, its shows a list of accepted places to get the car certified. Among the list are 5-6 places in QLD that are also accepted certifiers. You think it will be easier to get a mod plate, and then an Engineers Certificate by an approved certifier in QLD? Or get the conversion done and then have the car certified in NSW? Are FINK Engineering "tough" to deal with? I feel that a certifier in QLD might be abit more "sympathetic" seeing a QLD mod plate 😂. Dont mind paying for both a mod plate and engineers cert. -

DAMN!!! That sounds harsh man! People in QLD have done a LS swap into a V35 and gotten it mod plated, no issues. Dont know why the other states have to be such a pain 😢
