  1. I agree with a lot of you on this one. I loved the test of the Porsche, Ferrari and the McLaren, but the rest of it... I could take it or leave it. It seems as though they have tried to go in a bit of a different direction with the studio/tent pieces. Wasn't my thing, but as always the feature film was fantastic.
  2. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and tips. I used to have some advanced skills in a car (thanks to driving like a tool). I used to be that idiot ripping through traffic and driving way too fast everywhere. After losing my licence, i pulled my head in and have only gotten a single point off my licence in the last 7 years. I used to be able to heal and toe and was just getting into left foot braking. I know for a fact (I can feel it) that i used to have better car control and better reactions. However, the chances of me crashing nowadays are extremely slim compared to my early years. The truth is, i have no idea if I still posses these skills or if they are gone. I literally sit on the freeway on the morning on cruise going against the traffic and now my wife says i drive like a grandpa, i figure, as long as we get there in one piece, I've done my job. Now with a family and responsibilities the stakes are high, so I'm not just going to go out and go crazy in the new car, that's the plan and all your pointers are well received. I shall be taking it super easy and trying to learn as much as possible without damaging the car, myself or my licence. Thanks again everyone for your input. Good to have some theory and some practical stuff to look into.
  3. The only thing I can say about the prices having just paid a small fortune for a 33 is the high priced average looking cars are usually staying up for a long time. When you call those people and start to ask hard questions the phone goes very quiet. When you call the type of people selling a nice car they couldn't be more help (most of the time). I got so tired of morons on carsales trying to flog their beat up GTRs with wound back kms or shitty repairs. I ended up contact most sellers with a set of standard questions, some got bent out of shape others understood why I wanted to know. I stand by the fact that you get what you pay for...
  4. If you're looking to change brands, Project Mu do bolt on items... My new car has them... i'm yet to see them (or the car), but i'm told they're there.
  5. Disclaimer: I don't know much about Nissan engines, but... my old runabout ute, tends to blow off vacuum hoses. This leads to a high idle when stopped and on the brake pedal. It also makes a sound you can hear, sometimes, I can be bothered to fix it, other times, not so much. Maybe a quick check of the vacuum lines is a good start? (like i said, i'm not an expert on this.)
  6. Hi all, Thanks for the feedback. Sounds a like there is some consensus on a skid pan/track day. This is something I will be doing whenever I have the chance. I will be doing these, but I am really keen to hear about peoples experiences with driver training. I am sure that i have picked up some bad habits over my last 10+ years of driving and would really like for someone to point them out to me (in a nice way, not like the traffic each morning). Does anyone have a specific story of when they did their driver training and how their driving improved because they didn't understand where they were going wrong? In the meantime, i'll go away and read up on my theory. I believe I have a sound idea of how it all works, but ignorant people don't know they're ignorant... right?
  7. Driver Training Recommendations Hi all, Having just purchased, what I consider to be a somewhat outrageous car, well overpowered and without stability or traction control. I would be interested to hear back from anyone who has completed any advanced driver training. In particular, I would be keen to hear about training that concentrated on understeer, oversteer and car control. I've previously completed a driver training session that was about safety on the roads (emergency braking, stopping and reactions distances etc). I'm leaning towards using my own car to complete the training but wouldn't be completely against using a shared car. I've already looked up a couple and would prefer the training to be priced under 1k for a day. Has anyone done anything similar that they can recommend? Let me know what you've done and how you found it to be. Looking forward to hearing what you've been up to. Edit: I'm in Melbourne but still keen to hear from other states.
  8. As some of you are aware, i spent a long time searching for an R33 LM Limited. I looked at this one very closely and even came so far as bidding on it up to 2M Yen. The car ended up being sold for 2.5M Yen. The car had a lot of surface rust and potentially had some rust in some major panel joins. It would have needed to have been repaired prior to being complied in Australia. Here is a link to my google drive containing the images (there are too many to be placed here). https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B4uGx6rvYB9jdlpUYmNOSjlaX0U?usp=sharing
  9. @luis32gtr, have you considered wrapping your car? It isn't as expensive as a full blown re-spray, and is reversible if you ever decide you don't like it or you want to sell the car. I have looked into this and some of the products look to be good value when compared to a full respray, especially if you are just looking for a change or colour or are attempting to protect paint. As above i think your best bet will be to speak to a painter or someone with experience wrapping cars. Good luck.
  10. I would like to see the above personally, although as a noob here, take my opinion with a grain on salt.
  11. I think here in VIC there was talk of abandoning pursuits all together as a matter of safety. There was a bit of an uproar at the time, so I don't know if it was actually happened... From memory there were a couple of serious incidents (crashes) that involved innocent 3rd parties so VicPol were looking to minimise this chance.
  12. Awesome. I have a soft spot for Porches especially the GT cars. It looks like it would have been super fun. I get your brake enthusiasm, I have a real thing about car exhaust sounds, if I ever find myself with a spare few million I will be buying my garage based on the quality of the noise they make! (think LFA, Carrera GT, F458, E60 M5 so on, so on)
  13. There was a tunnel on the return trip from my parents that we were forever taking (thankyou Eastlink!). One freezing night in winter I was coming home about 2am with my wife asleep in the car beside me. I performed the normal, windows down, sunroof open and gave it the boot. My wife awoke immediately. We howled through the tunnel, i put the windows up, closed the sunroof and she says "I was going to be so angry at you, but that sound is amazing isn't it?" Proof she's a keeper.
  14. @ActionDan have you considered an older RS4 or an E46 or E92 M3? I love those things, but have no idea on reliability. They're not new, but they are still pretty awesome.
  15. Ah geez, don't tell me that... Oh well, never mind. I'll just tell my wife I didn't know it would cost so much... again. I kinda like the way the R35's sound with a nice exhaust. That have a kind of growl about them that sounds cool.
  16. Yep this is the car I have just bought. I absolutely love those wheels with this car. I'll be buying an original set of rims, just so if I want or need to, I can return it to a stock look (cause I'm like that). They can sit in the shed while i look at the glorious Work rims. Also a quick shout out to everyone who gave me a hand along the way. In particular, Troy from Iron Chef (was my eyes in Japan), @sin- and @I gotta R34gtr v-spec. I should also like to thank everyone who has taken the time to help me understand technical/mechanical details of these cars. Very much appreciated.
  17. Good news everyone!!!!! I have just bought, Gav's (or KPCresta as you may know him) car from him. Gav PM'd me early in my search and I turned him down. After a rather extensive search, I didn't turn up anything that was worth having, I went back to Gav and we came to an agreement for his car. He proved to be a great bloke and has patiently answered all my questions in great detail. I'm in Melbourne and the car is in Perth, so am hoping to have it shipped over in the next few weeks. It's currently sitting in Galvsport where it will be shipped directly to Racepace for road-worthy details. I'm hoping to have it on Victorian roads by Christmas.
  18. I can tell you now (that I have bought one) that the cheapest, I could get an R33 LM Limited landed and complied in Australia was 59k. I looked at every single LM Limited for sale in the last 10 months. The price of this model has skyrocketed, to the point where I was genuinely considering just buying a 34 because that was easier. As with all things, it's finding the right person, but I would not be parting with this car for less than 70k. The prices of good quality GTR's is on the rise (I've experienced it myself in my short search). This car, with these km's is going to be worth a considerable amount. I would expect that this car will be picked up by a collector and stored. Good luck!
  19. I have to agree with a few others here, if you can't really afford the car without a loan, it's not going to be the best decision for you at this time. I waited for 10 years to buy my dream car (E60 M5). It was awesome, but it cost a fortune to run over 2 years (like 20k fortune), i don't have it now and have moved onto my next dream car. Of course i'm assuming that everyone here has about 10 "dream cars" that they all want. It's best to be sure you can afford something than to find out you cannot. I'm sure Skylines aren't as bad as the M5 was (I hope, having just bought one), but it's my opinion that these should be your second car, for nice days and drives for leisure. Not something you still owe money on. Anyways, my two cents...
  20. ^^^ This, turns out, I will see if I can handle power (and its only 750hp, my bad). I've just paid for the car. It's currently not in the same state as me, so needs to be shipped over. Can't wait to get this thing on the road in Victoria!
  21. I'm not too familiar with the cars you have listed, however, I can tell you that BMW M cars are brilliant. They cost an absolute fortune to maintain though. I had an E60 M5 previously, it was the best car i've ever driven. It also was broken about a third of the time and cost almost 20k in repairs over 2.5 years. I still miss it... We also have an E61 wagon, which since purchase (12 months ago) has only needed oil (they all need oil). People tend to assume that all Euros are the same, but the non-sports car models are pretty reliable in my opinion. I looked at an A5 for my daily at one point, it felt well built, solid and like something i might like to drive but, In the end I spent a lot less and put the extra money into my fun car fund. I certainly was nice and quiet.
  22. @sin-, thanks for letting me know. I actually have just purchased one from a SAU member. I am just working through some details (minor repairs) and shipping, then i will be letting everyone know what I have done!
  23. Yeah, that was my bad... I hadn't quite made up my mind/got my life in order at that point. I'm sorted now. I have one lined up, I just have to organise a couple of things. Once I have it locked down, i'll be sharing more details.
  24. @sin-, appreciate your help. I can explain that one, the Auction listed the actual kms travelled as it had a changeover dash cluster. The Garage Yoshida listed the kms on the odometer only.
  25. ^^ So the car at Garage Yoshida turned out to be the exact same car that had been auctioned a week earlier. I didn't bother to have it inspected further as I knew its condition at the auction and wasn't keen on it. For reference the asking price for the car (which I assume had been repaired) was 3.5million Yen.
