Urgent: Front wheel bearing req'd (R34)...
Skyline_Dreamer replied to Skyline_Dreamer's topic in General Maintenance
You wouldn't believe it... After $68 for a bearing, a slab of beer, $44 inspection, 3 missing wheel nuts, 2 more stripped (alloy) & 1 lock nut missing, the problem was loose whel nuts!! I had new tyres fitting about one month ago & they didn't tighten the nuts properly. 2 wheels were missing 2 nuts each. Once these were tightened, the car drove perfectly. I won't name names as I rang them & they are covering my costs without any arguments, but it wasn't a backyard business. Hence why I didn't bother checking the nuts myself. D'oh! :0( -

Need Insurance? Want Cheaper Insurance?
Skyline_Dreamer replied to two40's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Well I just signed up with Famous Clasic Insurance - What a F@#K AORUND!!! The hummed & ha'd about sh!t, were unclear about my qns & could not confirm whether the "standard" claim excess was the final figure or whether they charge extra for a stolen claim. When I insisted on knowing, the answer was "You need to pay for the policy before this can be confirmed". What a friggin' joke!! They time-wasted me & said they would fax thru documentatio in 20 mins. After 4 phone calls, they said 30 mins & it ended taking a FURTHER 2 hrs. Not sure what kinda show they are running there, but I hope they pay out (if req'd) a lot simpler than when they sign you up. Just Cars I have been with for 3 yrs & they have nowhere near the problems & indecisiveness as Famous. -

Yeah, that's right. Go the tiptronic! Ok, I'd rather have a manual though. :0( -
I got aprice for Manual gearbox for R34 in Sydney which was $3,500 + $1,500 for install. :0(

Anyone got one of these. I am picking up my R34 tomorrow & would not have a clue about how to best utilise all of the options that these things can do. Anyone got an electronic manual for one of these puppies? Say in .PDF format Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I'm up for a new set of tyres. I need 2 x 235/40/18's & 2 x 265/35/18's for the rear of my car. I'm not after the best/most expensive tyres, but not the crappiest either. Looking around, I have heard Donellans (Box Hill) are fairly cheap, but their customer service lacks. They recommended Hankooks for $215 & $255 respectivley which includes fitting & balancing. Alignment is another $65. Any tips on were to go for the best deal would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Question about Just Cars Insurance
Skyline_Dreamer replied to Guilty's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I got quoted $1200 by Famous. The weird thing was they asked if I had received any other quotes. I said, "Yeah, Just Cars". Then they ask, "How much" so I say i will tell them but they have to give me their quote first. When I told them I was quoted $1168 with JC, they went away & said $1100. Also they "think" the excess was $1000 which is standard, but cannot confirm until they receipt payment. You can also pay by the month if u wish. I might go with them. -
Bring on the NEW skyline!!!
Skyline_Dreamer replied to Skyline_Dreamer's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Geez, I am now finding out how expensive imports are to maintain. I can source the globes for $230 new & genuine $30 for each parking globe. Also got a price for an R34 manual gearbox from halfcut for $3,500 + $1,500 to fit. -

I have thought about the HID, but only if factory lights cost me 2 grand. Any R34 owners out there been across this? Also, the tyres won't pass a RWC. What do you mean by "DOT" approved Funky Monkey? -
Like the wheels though!

Similar to the recent Series 6 RX-7 selling on EBAY for $8k. Was in Spain, but the guy was gonna pay for delivery to malbourne by plane. Go figure.

No, not the R35, but my R34! Friday I collect my R34 GTT, but I've got a few qns about cost of parts for ya's... It needs 4 new tyres. Front are 235/40/18's & rears are 265/35/18's. Currently Falkens. All discs (may) need machining. Hopefully they don't end up under-size. A couple of new brake pads. One low beam headlight has blown & the opposite front parking light. I met an R34 owner last night who said a new headlight would set me back around $2,000 coz you can't replac the glode as they are the proper Xenon gas one's. Any truth in this? Thanks in advance guys & hope to see you on the road shortly!

Mine need it too. All 4 are guttered, although not too badly. Do you remember what they charged per wheel?

Do you need a spray kit if you have a frontmount intercooler?

Need Insurance? Want Cheaper Insurance?

Just got 3 quotes on Skylines from Just Cars... All had std $450 excesses plus more excesses on top - see below. $1,168 with for an R34 GT-t with several mods - Rating 1 60%NCB, low risk suburb with no bad history, 29 years old. ******************************** • An additional excess of $700 applies to this policy. This excess is in addition to any other excesses and will need to be paid on every claim. • An additional excess of $400 applies to your policy due to the modifications to your car. This excess will need to be contributed to each claim for loss or damage, including theft. • The following item(s) must be fitted to your car for your car to be covered in the event of theft or attempted theft: AUST STD 2PT IMMOBILISER. • An additional excess of $700 applies and will need to be paid on any claim arising from the theft or attempted theft of this vehicle. For an R33 GTS-T it was $1096 with the following endorsements: *************************************************** • An additional excess of $700 applies to this policy. This excess is in addition to any other excesses and will need to be paid on every claim. • The following item(s) must be fitted to your car for your car to be covered in the event of theft or attempted theft: AUST STANDARD 2PT IMMOBILISER. • An additional excess of $700 applies and will need to be paid on any claim arising from the theft or attempted theft of this vehicle. An R33 GTR was $1,929. An additional excess of $1000 applies to this policy. This excess is in addition to any other excesses and will need to be paid on every claim. • An additional excess of $700 applies to the MAG WHEELS noted on your policy. This excess will need to be contributed to each claim for loss or damage (including theft) of these accessories. This excess is in addition to any other excess. • An additional excess of $400 applies to your policy due to the modifications to your car. This excess will need to be contributed to each claim for loss or damage, including theft. • The following item(s) must be fitted to your car for your car to be covered in the event of theft or attempted theft: AUSTRALIAN STD 2PT IMMOBILISER. • An additional excess of $1000 applies and will need to be paid on any claim arising from the theft or attempted theft of this vehicle. That boils down to a hugely excessive claim cost for an older & (on paper) a low risk driver. I might try Famous, but don't like the sound of the 11pm curfew - I usually am not driving after 11pm, but what if I was rushing to take my partner to hospital at 3am & crashed. What, no insurance payout?!?! -
What about the GOLDEN rule - how can you guys forget it?!?! * Under NO circumstances will a passenger touch the handbrake! (A mate of mine is a known repeat offender when I have hire cars - like at 90kms in traffic without warning me).
