Any have experience with Mishimoto intercoolers
Old man 32 GTR replied to Pattey21's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yep, as above, and I’m talking from recent personal experience. -
Welcome back, can you do something similar to the garage defender cooling panel for R32 GTR? Also a reasonably priced front lip for the R32, new oem replacements are up over $1100 now.

GTR R32 Build
Old man 32 GTR replied to oktaytrz's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Great decision going back to factory colour, will look very nice with fresh paint. In regards to injectors, I was told the 1650cc were the best choice if you’re considering running e85, also they are good for over 600kw so you’ll probably never have to upgrade them. They are the most expensive but I was told that’s because they have full stainless internals, where the 1000’s etc just have a stainless tip. Look it up and speak with the shop (whoever you use) get their opinion. from memory the 1650’s are called motorsport series or similar? -
GTR R32 Build
Old man 32 GTR replied to oktaytrz's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Hi mate, just reading through your build, just to answer/give my input on a couple of things you asked. exhaust manifold: id go the 6 boost, I have read on some GTR pages/forums that there have been fitment issues with CRG, maybe that’s sorted now, I’m not sure, but most big hp GTR’s are using 6 boost. Intercooler: the general consensus is the factory intercooler starts to loose efficiency around the 300kw mark, that’s at the wheels. Gearbox? There’s not much you can do without spending a decent amount of $$. Just use your box and start saving for an upgrade. The OS gearset is probably the cheapest solution. I ran 500kw through my stock box for a year, it didn’t break but it did get very noisy. I did roll racing and drag racing with it. If you can show it just a little bit of mechanical sympathy, it should hold together. cooling/radiator: koyorad, PWR are probably the better ones, I’ve got a cooling pro from Just Jap, cost $240 and works really well. I had a bad experience with Mishimoto so personally I wouldn’t recommend it. If you can stretch the budget, do the extended sump while the motor is out. For peace of mind, or later you’ll be kicking yourself that you didn’t do it, even if it means waiting a little longer. you know what they say, poor man pays twice. Well the GTR will make you pay 3 times! Lol anyway, sounds like it’s coming along nicely, you’ll be guaranteed happy when it’s done, these things are amazing drivers cars. cheers -

R33 gets hot at lights with ac on
Old man 32 GTR replied to Blakeo's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I would put money on it being the radiator, I literally just went through this, only mine was more extreme. I did the same as you, timing belt kit, new water pump, thermostat and NEW Mishimoto radiator. Once fitted the car was running noticeably hotter, idled at 88 degrees, however when driving would sit in low 90’s. Put the AC on and would climb to 105, probably would have got hotter if I let it. Changed the radiator, problem solved, car now sits high 70’s -low 80’s, AC on or off, doesn’t bother it. -
Welcome, and yes, the car looks amazing, that colour is really nice and the wheels set it off.

Well it’s just about done, car is awesome, really responsive, unbelievable low end response and torque and insane on boost, very happy. Cooling issues have been taken care of by way of a Just Jap 40mm radiator with new shroud and stock clutch fan. -
nsw/act Rb26 Kelford cams
Old man 32 GTR posted a topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Up for sale are a pair of Kelford drop in cams to suit Rb26 head, these were removed from my head as I changed to high lift cams. I’m not sure if the specs as they were in the car when I bought it. Car had a bit of lumpy idle and made good torque/power in bottom and mid range. $500ono Also have a pair of Spal curved blade slimline fans. Basically new, were on the car for less then a week then found the radiator was rubbish and have gone a different direction. Paid just over $200 each. Will sell for $150 each or $250 for both. Pick up, Harrington park or can post at buyers expense. many questions pm me and I’ll send you my number. cheers -
R33 GTR Mishmoto radiator
Old man 32 GTR replied to georgev's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Ok might as well weigh in here, This has been my experience. I’ve recently done some mods to my 32 R, which included head service + new valve train, timing belt kit, new water pump, thermostat, mishimoto radiator and shroud in which I replaced the mishimoto fans with Spal Hi flow units. All work was done by a reputable workshop. (I supplied the radiator and fans). When the car was put back together the tuner immediately noticed the car running hotter. (Previously would sit around 82 degrees, was now 88-89 degrees) when you drove the car, the temps would increase to low 90’s but would drop back down when the car was stationary (indicating the fans were working and able to cool). I was told this was warmer then usual but not excessive, however what we found was when the a/c was turned on, the temps would quickly climb to well over 100, peaked at 105 when the a/c was turned off and the temps started to fall back to low 90’s. This was on a 28 degree day driving street duties, (60-80km/h, low rpm) NO BOOST. we put a factory radiator and fan back on the car (no shroud) and the car ran perfect, sat on 82 degrees, a/c didn't bother it. Car had to be tuned with the factory radiator and fan. I got in contact with mishimoto who tried to blame everything else bar their product. Didn’t offer any solutions, I asked if it could be the radiator cap? They tried to blame the Spal fans. The delema isn’t over, even though Mishimoto finally agreed to take back their product , I returned it to the shop for a refund (which they agreed to) but am still waiting (been 2 weeks) been a horrible experience and I am out of pocket a considerable amount of money. Wouldn’t recommend them and I have had just about enough from the parts shop, I know it’s not their fault, they are the distributor, they don’t make the product but I feel they are really stuffing me around and there is no need for it. I won’t shop with them again, that’s for sure. -
Do Nismo make clutches for the GTST, haven’t heard a bad thing about the clutch they make for GTR, everyone who has one says better then factory feel.

You did better then me, I only managed 11.8 and mine went 133mph

Ok, car is almost done, went for a drive with my tuner yesterday to complete final set up to suit my driving style. I can’t stress this enough, Powertune have been awesome throughout this process, there were a few hurdles but they were all dealt with in a fair and professional manner, I highly recommend them. now for first impressions, its been wet so I had to drive to conditions, car has three boost settings, 20psi, 27psi and 32psi. I drove it on 20psi in a setting that purposely gives linear power delivery. First thing I noticed is the car has considerably sharper throttle response and the torque and power below 3000rpm is miles ahead of what it was, the car seem more willing to rev and it Revs effortlessly, I was very impressed. The flat shift is spot on and the auto blip on downshift works very well, (apart from user error) the car can be driven without using the clutch, apart from take off. It’s insane, you can drive the car below 3000rpm with ease, it will pull from 1200rpm in 4th gear without any hesitation and pulls well. Outright power? The way it Revs is completely different now, I gave it a couple of squirts, (where it was safe) was told I applied 70% throttle, on boost even at 20psi the acceleration was rapid and it puts on serious speed, very quickly! what impressed me the most was the throttle control while on boost, where before acceleration would increase rapidly as it came on boost, you can now control the rate of acceleration through small changes of the pedal, yes the acceleration is rapid on boost but I now have significant control of that. Best of all, the car is seriously fast at 20psi! I got two more settings to play with! -
Hi mate, welcome, looking at your list I think the 1000cc injectors will be at their limit for your power target so if you want some head room, go the 1650cc Bosch motorsport, these are also better with e85, as stated may as well go an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. yes you can fit the 460 pump in your tank and you should get away with it with the factory lines. You will need a metal head gasket to hold boost, Tomei seems to be the go to. when you start to talk oil control you’d better open your wallet , the billet gear in the oil pump is a good idea, as is a head drain, extended baffled sump and an oil cooler, depends how far you want to go. these cars have a way of emptying your wallet! I haven’t had a dollar for the last two years! Lol

Mechanic recommendations Campbelltown area NSW
Old man 32 GTR replied to Rios's topic in New South Wales
Ichibarn specialise in Subaru and although I don’t doubt they could build and tune a GTR, you’re probably better off going to a shop that works in them every day. JEM are good, Adam is a wealth of knowledge, they are friendly and approachable. Also just around the corner are B2R racing, the boys their are friendly and helpful and those guys are building some of the fastest GTR’s in the country. My car is currently at Powertune in Eastern Creek (I also live in the Campbelltown area). I’m obviously going to recommend Powertune, why did I take my car there, I spoke with all shops and chose the shop I felt most comfortable with. I felt the direction they could take my car in was where I wanted it. So, moral of the story, most shops are very good, go speak with all of them and go to the one you feel most comfortable with. -
Torque controllers
Old man 32 GTR replied to McGarryR32's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
@alexj I bought my motec through Powertune in Sydney, they wrote their own software package specifically for the GTR, with the purchase of an additional wiring loom the motec now controls the 4wd, (attessa is disconnected) I will have 4 modes which are preset and controlled through a pdm. Rwd, standard, one setting designed for circuit driving and one setting for drag racing. -

Thanks mate, I’ll post up my opinions on it all once I get the car back. So far I’m very happy with the workmanship, the bay is looking very tidy. unfortunately, it’s a never ending project, I’m not finished this round of mods and I’m planing the next round. Looking at getting the car resprayed, fitting a motec 12’ dash display and sending it to heasmans to get the suspension set up how I want it, and there’s more beyond that!
