  1. The rear wheels should be just in front of the dropped part, that is the whole idea. The dropped part caters for the car's rear overhang, it's just 650mm long on my trailer.
  2. Beavertail is a more efficient design because it basically extends the length of the ramps and so reduces the loading angle. Costs a bit more but worth it I reckon.
  3. Buy my beaut trailer http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/430169-fs-new-beavertail-car-trailer-brisbane/
  4. Measures 2000mm between the guards, take up to a 2850mm wheelbase, 1450kg car. Smooth riding full shackle rocker suspension, registered, five new Sunrasia wheels and tyres, over ride disc brakes, protected LED lights, dual ratio winch, etch primed Algal chassis. Built by a pro as a keeper and way better than an Ebay cheapie, now $1000 under factory price, sell for $4215. Phone Richard 33543204 or email [email protected]
  5. And.............. Here's me thinking that the Token drives a Mac.
  6. Not trying to be a bitch but talk of tyres is pretty useless without mentioning the compound too eg soft, medium.....
  7. Long drive pffft, must be the Santa Fe making it feel like a long drive Challenger was pretty damm good Brisbane to PI, not luxury comfortable though, more converted ute comfortable
  8. Trucks are exempt because if they are defected then their owner goes political. And noone wants that, hoon
  9. That Cruiser looks like it could tow two trailers, should have no problems there. As for trailers, buy mine http://www.my105.com/tabid/65/id/9996/default.aspx There are lots of traps in buying a cheapie, one of the most common is you get used wheels and used car tyres. Always use light truck tyres, Sunrasia wheels have heavy duty rims. Tightarse mate blew a used car tyre just the other day and has damaged rims on potholes, true story.
  10. Love these coupes, have not gone through the whole thread but the semi trailing arm rear suspension needs serious geometry changes to work well. Which nobody seems to do. BMW did it, so can you Accusump? Should be located as close as possible to the engine to reduce supply lag, plus the electric valve is way better than the alternative. Mine is in the engine bay, electric valve switches a warning light on the dash.
  11. Navigator needs a foot operated horn to blast the blind cars out of the way.
  12. Mother of god Is this the two liter GTST that won Early Modern?
  13. EFI petrols are pretty damm reliable and diesel torque is over rated for towing, as I experiened with the old Triton, see previous. A quick look on Carsales, petrol Missybitchy Pajero's under 200k clix listed at $10,000, not that I know much about them but the 3.5 liter petrol donk is apparently a step up on the old 3 liter job. Just a thought anyway, dealer's will give you test drives.
  14. Having given old diesel clunkers a serve, if finances are limited then I would go petrol not diesel. A lot cheaper to buy and the engines are cheaper to maintain. For example, with some reluctance I drove a friend's manual three liter petrol Triton ute that had been round the clock a few times, for $5000 what would you expect. Anyway, it went quite well towing up Cunningham's Gap, just use the gearshift and stick around 3000rpm was all it took, 100kph no problem on the flat in 5th. Old diesels are overpriced for what they are and don't seem to save that much in fuel over a petrol job.
  15. ^This^ If you can't afford a proper turbo diesel then why not make do with a Falcon or somthing for a while? On a long tow drive my auto Mrbitchy Challenger CRD turbo did 11.6L/100, messing around with some old diesel clunker that has been round the clock a few times and does 18 does not make sense.
  16. A real tow car test is 110kph* down hill on a winding road when you have to brake to avoid the revenue raisers, if the tow car ignores the tail trying to wag the dog then it's good. * legal speed limit, which always makes sense and is safest. Govco dickheads.
  17. A Jeep forum may be the go for the Cherokee, good luck. Falcons have been mentioned here a lot, had a chat at PI with two mature age WA blokes who had towed their Z cars over with latish model Falcon utes. One a six, the other a V8. Both were happy and will do it again, that's a pretty big plus for ye olde Falcon.
  18. As promised here is my towing report using the Challenger to PI and back. Tows fine, no problems there. Just keep in mind that it has a 2.5 liter TD with a torque reduced auto transmission. But stuck her on cruise control and it delivered 11.6 l/100 average over 1720k of varied road and traffic conditions, from 110kph down.
  19. Had a set of Bilstein dampers fitted to the Challenger about a week ago, ride is much better and certainly more compliant. Better than a euro now
  20. 8.4L/100 is good for a truck, how does it drive. Now have a trailer for the Challenger, PI over easter is the plan. It's going well, only thing is the suspension needs tuning for Aussie roads. Thinking about getting a set of Bilsteins to improve it.
  21. Seen the current Santa Fe dash and interior? Looks like it was designed by a gay Asian pimp Kia looks great from the outside, they really are an upmarket Hyundai now.
  22. Prefer the Kia Sorento to the Santa Fe myself, Aussie tuned suspension for a start.
  23. Cool, how about a pic of this towmeister Ben?
  24. Yay Ben, sounds like a great buy, wanna drag?
