  1. Sorry for being a smartarse (not) but those suspension rules could easily be tightened up eg by making it mandatory to use stock suspension points and no others. Quite easily done, people who write these rules are not very cluey sometimes..
  2. Had a couple of traffic light challenges in the Challenger, for some reason it attracts a bit of (good) attention. The little old 2.5 with auto goes quite well in those situations, trucks can be fun
  3. Sounds like a worthy cause, get those polluting fourbys off the beaches and save the planet
  4. Hahahahah, what a bunch of tryhard jokes, painful to go through them to see if anyone actually knew the answer but of course they did not. Interesting question, politicians would not write them though so that answer is wrong. I'd guess that an engineer, the Transport and Police mobs would be involved. Perhaps when the juveniles go back to school someone who actually knows something will respond.
  5. As long as the GPS did not direct you to drive into the sea On the Challenger, looks like the auto has a dual cooling system, through the engine radiator first then to it's own radiator. Crowded in front of the engine radiator - a/c, IC and auto cooler.
  6. Sold the spare car so all cashed up for a new trailer in 2013, maybe towing Feb, Mar? But you know I'm going to say it's good, would not have bought it if there was any doubt. Faith dude, faith
  7. No bites on the $30K Cherokee? Not surprised, pretty poor potential as a tow car, Jeep need to get their act together maybe.
  8. New Jeep Cherokee on special offer, $30k for the four speed auto V6 petrol (diesel with five speed auto is an option) drive away, 2270kg towing capacity. http://www.jeep.com....cherokee-towing
  9. 360nm is certainly enough grunt to tow that rig.
  10. Reduced towing for the auto usually is because the auto is the transmission weak link. Torque is what matters with a diesel, I'd say 300nm minimum for your application.
  11. Blokes on a Challenger forum have driven their bone stock autos loaded up and towing caravans around Australia with no problems so I reckon mine should be OK on tarmac roads towing 2000kg all up max. But an auto trans temp gauge might be good, will check that out. Don't want to add stuff that is apparently not necessary, spare $ go to racecar
  12. Plenty of chips around for Triton/Challenger eg Chip It http://www.ebay.com....=item43a55b3d6a Going off the Triton dyno sheet there torque is calculated at 396nm @ 2750rpm, 216 @ 3750, at the rear wheels. Stock manual puts out about 400nm at the flywheel so say a 30% improvement over that. 520nm by my dodgy calcs, wonder if the auto box which is limited to 350nm would stand up to chip power? Might need an extra cooler for a start, 520nm is not bad for a 2.5 liter engine eh .
  13. Apparently the auto trans overheating light is part of a partial shutdown system, once it is triggered it blocks the use of higher gears so I'm told. But I have not heard of anyone towing triggering the light yet.
  14. There is some info on the MRT site but no specific power outputs mentioned, unless that has changed. Reading the driver's manual I see that there is a auto trans overheat light which is handy. After crawling underneath it to fit a tow bar etc it is definately a truck, no doubt about that
  15. What is the problem with the stepped nose, it's a visual thing that's a matter of opinion. Care no f***s for fanboinewbs gay reaction
  16. It's funny there is not much mention of towing in the handbook, no mention of not using fifth gear (auto) for towing. There is some mention of using a lower gear if the coolant temp rises when going up a hill and that's about it., No tow pack option except for a towbar, no mention of an extra cooling device. Sounds like MrBitchy think that towing is no big deal. My idea would be to keep engine revs in the peak torque band whatever the terrain. Plenty of people using Challengers for towing, from what I've read the vehicle is basically very suitable for the job, keeping in mind that there are bigger more powerful tow cars around. It's a bloody truck, it has to be able to tow On towbars, the bloody ripoff prices around. Ended up with a Hayman Reece 3 tonne rated for ~$465, bitch of a thing to fit but a nice peice of work.
  17. Won't be doing any towing for a while so can't comment on that. But the auto is detuned to 350nm whereas the manual is not, around 400nm I think so the auto is not going to be too spectacular. See that MRT offer a retune service to get them cracking, would bugger the warranty though for sure.
  18. Stock air intake on the Challenger, which you think would be the same on a Triton, is at the middle behind the gap under the front of the bonnet. Tried my Challenger on cruise control at 100kph, absolutely rock steady. Sequential shift is handy, auto is smooth, engine is willing but it drones at 1700rpm in a high gear which I suspect is because that is just below the best torque range. Overall, so far so good
  19. Sounds like someone beat you to the skids Ben
  20. China rubber on a Q7, shame Should havve the best most expensive euro rubber otherwise you void the?????hehe.
  21. Read back a bit, euro coolness seems to be related to the amount of $ you are prepared to drop in depreciation to own a one, crazy stuff.
  22. Challenger can be bought new for mid $30's, depending on the specs and the deal of course. Got mine today, so far so good
  23. The diesel Land Cruisers are not bullet proof despite what the Toyboys may like to think. Talking with a bloke out at Lakeside the other day, he bought one new and at 140K the fuel system dropped it's guts, had to be towed. Cost $7K to have it rebuilt. 650nm would make one a monster tow car though.
  24. Good advice, will take it for a 100kph run as soon as I get it. If it is not 100% right then back it goes to the dealer to cancel the sale. Think I have five days to do that.
  25. Mitsubishi Challenger SUV, 2.5 turbo diesel, five speed sequential shift auto, 2WD, three tonne towing capacity Only thing is with the auto torque is reduced from 400nm to 350, no LSD but I assume that the electronics sort that out. Everything else looks good, these would be the cheapest diesel SUV with a serious towing capacity around, by a big margin.
