  1. Drove a Prado to Melbourne and back Ben, that was enough for me of driving a full size fourby. Plenty of room for me in a Santa Fe, will try a KJ for size like you suggest.
  2. KJ not good on a long distance drive Ben? Need something reasonably comfortable.
  3. Jeep Cherokee KJ turbo diesel around MY2005? Like this one http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/jeep-cherokee-2007-13187521?eapi=2&base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=26&page=3&find=diesel Few of then for sale under $20k so they are crap or just unloved? Fallback position is a Falcon.
  4. Are you sad because you will be seeing that lot?
  5. So the FG XR6T would have a six speed auto I guess. R33 with trailer would weigh close to the 2300kg tow limit? The thing with Falcons is that they are cheap to buy compared with a lateish diesel SUV but I'm not sure which coon auto would be best for towing, 4, 5 or 6 speed.
  6. Latest experiences towing 2000kg with the Santa Fe diesel? Problems? Still can't make up my mind on what tow car
  7. But fuel contaminants can apparently pass straight through a good OE filter. If rejected warranty claims are to be believed.
  8. Fixed the mistake for you As we all know though, once Senna died then he became the best hero driver ever
  9. Mine too.
  10. There are recommended cheaper substitutes for these OE only special oils, just a matter of asking a few oil companys.
  11. Yeh, ZF has a engine coolant heat exchanger but I'm wondering if that is sufficient. On fuel economy, a couple of diesels mentioned above are said to do 14-15, BA - BF Falcons do no worse than that. Anyway, it's close enough not to be a factor.
  12. Falcon sedan with the ZF six speed auto. That's what I'm thinking of, under 100K klix, don't care if it is not the ideal tow car. Value for money, compact multi purpose car, can't see the benefit in a diesel at present given that they would cost more to buy, are not that much more economical if at all and with the CRD's maybe cost more to own. Falcons are unfashionable which = buyers market. ZF's don't appear to require additional cooling for towing say 1900kg total but has anyone added a cooler?
  13. If old Jim takes this out you WA lot should give up, no medals in the Lympics either FFS. But we know that you won't let the Datto fans down, because
  14. Unfortunately that sort of cheating happens a lot, good on your mate for standing firm.
  15. There is a reson why the German economy is doing well, car parts and service charges. Enjoy your three year wonder
  16. Looking at those pics makes me feel competent
  17. A Falcon would be the fallback tow vehicle for me, once some business is sorted then I'll know how much $ is available. Spent heaps on the track car, now it's time to get something decent as a dual purpose only one vehicle thing. Could get a gearbox chewing BMW X5 or Merc dodgy everything SUV if 'style' was the main goal
  18. Thanks for clarifying that Harry, the report I read made no mention that Webber's lap times had increased before the last tyre change was made.
  19. Some 2000kg braked towing diesel SUV's as searched on Carsales under $25000. All manuals I think. There may be model variations too. All have two liter engines except the Suziki Grand Vitara which has a 1.9. The rest are - Nissan XTrail, VW Tiguan, and Holden Captiva. Be interesting if anyone has actually towed with one of these, anticipating Harry I am in no way advocating towing 2000kg with any of these, I claim ignorance.
  20. The reason given for the late tyre change was that the diff fault was causing excessive rear tyre wear. But it sounds a bit like a premature call given how well the tyres were holding up generally. Anyway, blaming Mark is a bit unreasonable, his start was brilliant and he went well otherwise.
  21. An oil pressure light is useless unless it comes on at a relatively high pressure, mine comes on at 45psi which is about the oil pressure at idle on a VG engine. The usual lights are around 15psi, an engine at high rpm will be wrecked by then.
  22. In Brisbane, Option One Garage.
  23. The nut plate can be the rivet on or slip on type, I have just bought some from Kurveygirl, a motorcycle place.
  24. FZ201 mediums for sprints, softs are more suitable for hill climbs. Maybe not the absolute quickest but unbeatable bang for buck.
  25. Use motorcycle or even bicycle spokes, that SS stuff is ridiculously heavy. Can't understand why it is recommended and used in the first place.
