  1. Yeh, lots of supposed race cars around but most of the hot lap times are done by street cars. Bit of a joke really
  2. New Lakeside PB for me in the Datsun, 59.8597,here is the lap
  3. FG weighs 1704kg, racecar 1240kg.
  4. People used to tow heavy caravans around Australia with Falcons and Holdens before 4WD's and SUV's became fashionable so with proper preparation I have no problems using a late model Falcon to tow a car trailer at 100kph or whatever, just like others do. A heavier vehicle may be better in some ways but a FG will be more comfortable and quieter than a lot of them so less driver fatigue for a start. Anyway for an allrounder a Falcon will do me and make more money available for what I really want to do. Racecar
  5. With the cooler and with the system bled mine stays filled to the factory level markings when doing sprints, friend of mines RB30ET without a cooler is always losing oil. I figure that cooler oil will be kinder to seals etc too.
  6. Trailer sway has everything to do with trailer design and loading so I'm told so all those aspects will be carefully considered before the rig ever hits the road for a long trip, including test runs. I figure that if people can safely tow 2000kg+ high aspect single axle caravans with a Falcon then towing a tandem trailer with a low aspect car on board should be doable. Will also be using electric brakes with a manual over ride should things get tricky, might add that I got trailer sway once driving a Prado downhill when the stupid four speed auto did an unexpected and slow shift, so tow car weight is not everything.
  7. Towing the Zed Harry, a bit less than 2000kg all up on a tandem trailer. Not worried about Ford's speed limit assuming that applies to FG's, probably be an idea to run it past the insurer though. Might be an idea to advertise the Patrol on PF, disappointing to see you retiring from racing though.
  8. It's not hard to put a cooler in the return line, I used a small universal type PWR one, a bit over $100 from Supercreep.
  9. Yeh I looked at your Falcon consumption figures B before, very impressive. Load leveling kit requirement seems to depend on the amount of towbar weight, of course unlike a caravan a car on a trailer can be located to give the correct amount of weight which seems to be 10% of total trailer weight. The other thing seems to be that Falcons with sports suspension like XR6's are rated at a lower towing capacity.
  10. Turbo diesel would be the first choice but used Falcon sedans are a bargain price so, because racecar, tow car priority is not #1 $ wise. Particularly running and maint costs.
  11. Bumping this up, wondering if anyone has recent experience with a Falcon auto turbo sedan as a tow car, towing about 2000kg total. Also the late na six speed auto sedans, particularly fuel consumption figures. Yeh I know that a fourby might tow better but I don't like driving trucks and am bit concerned about common rail and particulate filter problems with diesel SUV's.
  12. Looks like Shoemaker misjudged the situation to me and why try to go around the outside of Senna who was initially positioned in the center of the track anyway? Let's face it, Shoe is past it.
  13. Semi trailing arm rear suspension, tarmac performance demo video
  14. Ben (Marlin) is the bloke to talk to about Lakeside
  15. Talk to Ken at Accurate Suspension 3808 2878, he has heaps of Datto experience and races one. There is a BMW 2002 that he has worked on, similar semi trailing arm suspension, which hauls axe at Lakeside, search Mr Dickie for a recent vid on YouTube, seems to handle great. As a bigger buck alternative there is always MCA of course for the best suspension, I'm sure that Murray Coote has Datto experience. With the right work the STA suspension is pretty damm good eg E30 BMW.. Good luck, keep us informed Found the Mr Dickie vid The thing is, the BMW suspension is no better than the Datto's, the difference is that BMW owners will spend money to get it right.
  16. "If your enjoying the car, the team, the friends and the adventure then the position you finnish is irrelevant" Of course the enjoyment and participation is the most important part but rolling over to cheaters is OK?
  17. My reliable source says that there was no dispute that the porkchop's ABS was fitted and working but, you know, 'winning' so many times is good publicity so......................
  18. Outright Classic allows ABS? Apparently. What a joke and what will some 'competitors' do to win.
  19. If you break down in the middle of nowhere I would fancy my chances a lot better of getting a fix for something popular Aussie or Jap than a VW. Not only getting parts but getting someone to work on one. Can see the Toerag attraction but breaking down towing a trailer with a racecar on it out in the sticks would be bad enough without having to work out how you are going to get it all home again to fix it. Maybe I'm not adventurous enough
  20. It sort of makes more sense to me to carry stuff in the tow vehicle than put it on a trailer and then have to upgrade the trailer and, maybe, the tow car as well to carry/tow it all. Actually the more weight in the tow car, within reason, compared with the trailer the better it will tow.
  21. Euro problematical life span plus multiple rapist parts/service costs? There is a reason why they depreciate faster than Visa can do the calculations.
  22. Anything over 2000kg with power to match will make a decent tow car, trick for some of us is to find a DD that will do the tow car thing reasonably well. Not everyone wants a stump pulling 4be truck in the garage
  23. Seeing I have to get a tow car sometime have done more research in the $20,000 diesel SUV/4WD category. Quite a few various model Nissans, some with quite reasonable k's for that money on Carsales. Thanks for your tips Ben, no Merc for me then
  24. Going x eyed trawling through Carsales, need a break, Mercedes ML270 diesel SUV with reasonable k's for $15000 anyone? Unpleasant parts and repair costs would put me off but then I'm not a Eurotragic
  25. Kia Sorento is another diesel SUV but once again hard to find one for ~$20,000 without the high k's http://www.carsales.com.au/used/kia/sorento/diesel/
