Pedestrian Safety System triggered by a possum
LesF replied to LesF's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Sorry, I didn't post a follow-up after I had it fixed. The parts came to $6500, and took 4 months to get here by boat, as COVID-19 disrupted direct freight. No idea what the labor costs were to get it all installed. Yay for good insurance. I get very nervous now when I see a possum or rabbit on the road. Gonna have to investigate disabling that mechanism I think. -
Hi, last night a possum ran in front of me and smacked the bumper, triggering the Pedestrian Safety System which blew out the bonnet hinges. I haven't contacted anybody for repairs yet, just wondering what the damage is from this system being activated. I found some discussions regarding different models of Nissan, which suggest that it destroys the hinges and these need to be replaced. Is this going to be a costly repair? 2010 370GT coupe, DBA-CKV36

Yeah, so, facepalm moment, it was the dashboard camera which had filled up its SD card. Now I know it makes noises.

On a long drive today my 2010 370GT (CKV36) started pinging, once every 4 seconds. It does it for a while then there is a different chime sound and it stops. Then sometime later it starts doing it again. It sounds a bit like a speed warning chime, but it happens at any speed, it even started doing it after starting the engine, while I wasn't moving. I can't see any different lights or warnings on the dash. Anybody know what it is trying to tell me?

v36 Japanese to English conversion

On AliExpress there are a couple of companies selling a complete replacement for the center unit, with an Android media system in it. I haven't tried one yet, they are designed for the Infiniti in the US, the only suggestions I have seen so far is that the side camera interface may have a different voltage.- 18 replies

Good to know. I would like to hear some people's experiences with these tho. The original had two chambers inside the rubber filled with silicone, which would have given a certain amount of movement. I don't know the effect of going to something firmer or softer. I have taken the temporary step of injecting some silicone based caulking, which is firm but I expect it will crumble away quite fast. It seems to have got rid of a slight knock it usedta have anyway.

V36 Skyline Cabin Filter Replacement Diy
LesF replied to KwS's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Repco NZ have a RCF592, which is the same size, minus the adhesive foam strips on the sides. I got some adhesive foam and made it match. Just a little uncertain about which way it goes in; original filter had an arrow labeled 'up', new one has an arrow labelled 'air flow'. Since the old one is dirty on top, I assume the airflow is downwards (?) where's my calculator... -
Ok. I am considering doing something with mine... traded in a 300ZX TT for it, which was around 340 hp at the wheel (I still shed a tear when I see a nice Z go by, but both myself and the Fairlady were getting old) anyways, the VQ37 is quite impressive, but I wouldn't mind a little more torque starting off, probably not going so far as to start looking at turbo/supercharger options.

V36 Skyline Cabin Filter Replacement Diy
LesF replied to KwS's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I finally got round to pulling the filter out. The images, for me, have a "photobucket" logo posted over the top and look like they are intentionally blurred so that I cannot read any text in the pictures. Anyways, going to an auto store now to see if I can find a match. -
I thought the 370GT was already rated at 325 hp. Guess I should get mine checked out sometime to see what it does put out.

Hi, I have a 2010 370GT skyline coupe, CKV36, with a ruptured differential bushing. The local Nissan dealers tell me their answer is to replace the entire sub-frame, which includes considerable man hours, on top of the parts costs. It all looks identical to the G35/G37 Infiniti, as described in the below YT vid, where there is a suggestion that an aftermarket replacement bush can be inserted, rather than replacing the entire sub-frame. What is the preferred way to deal with this? Has anybody found a satisfactory alternative bush and successfully had it replaced?

Where can I find a part code for the filter? I have a 2010 370GT, it's the DBA-CKV36 coupe. I assume it has been some time since the filter was changed, tho maybe if I start removing panels I may come across a label with the last change date on it. I think it is worth changing it anyhow. Just to be sure. -

LesF replied to Chris Rogers's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Being targeted at the Infiniti, in the litigation-happy US, they would have to deliver a reasonable level of usability, I expect. I wouldn't be too concerned about the CPU power, if I could load in the maps I need for GPS it would be cool, but I wouldn't push the boundaries with Android apps other than using a music player, tho right now I just run spotify on my phone thru bluetooth. Thanks for making the effort to get more information on this thing anyway. I just wish there were more technical specs available, to know if it was possible to make a patch were parts of the interface are missing or whatever. It could be a fun hardware and software challenge. -

It does not seem to be possible. You can use google translate on your phone, it lets you work out the important bits. -
Have you got any specs on the touchscreen output? I hadn't heard of that. I have a Orange Pi that I might be able to configure for suitable video output, it could be entertaining to put it in and see what software ideas I can come up with. Also do you have any specs on the video resolution, framerates etc?

I have used the import/export functions to update the CDDB information after loading a CD into Music Box, this is a fairly simple process, but I see there are menu options for updating the CDDB data over the internet. Does anybody know how I can get the car connected to the internet? Can I create a wifi hotspot on my phone and connect via that, or can the car connect to the internet through Bluetooth? Or is the internet connection one of those proprietary things that only work in Japan in conjunction with Carwings etc? -- 2010 370GT coupe

V36 Nav And Language Swap - Faq
LesF replied to Chris Rogers's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Some of the 2DIN navigation units I have been looking at claim to support the Nissan canbus interface. Does the V36 have that? I know so little about this car. -

So electronically it should be ok, but mounting and fitting it in may be a problem? My layout is a little different than the Infinity G37, I'm hoping I can fit in a 7 inch touch screen in place of the existing one, keeping the disk player etc. Not sure about the nav buttons below the screen. Some of the Android units I have looked at have a mapping feature for steering wheel controls, so maybe other buttons can be re-purposed too. -

Has anybody tried replacing the navi unit with an Android based alternative? I have seen several product which claim to have the correct plugs and adapters for Nissans, and appear to have all the required inputs and outputs. For $300 to $400 it seems this would be a great alternative as maps and other apps would be so simple to install. e.g. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Quad-Core-1024-600-Android-4-4-For-2din-Double-Universal-Car-GPS-Navigation-BT-Radio/32617239524.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.q0UcNh -
On the day I handed over my Z and drove this home. 2010 370GT fresh off the boat, seems to have been looked after nicely by the previous owner(s).

V36 370GT owner Hi, I have a 2010 370GT coupe, which I changed to after having 2 300ZX tt Fairlady's over the last 18 years. Sadly the 300ZX need a lot of maintenance and repairs, which I just wasn't achieving, and this shiny red Skyline caught my eye. Anyways, I am in Waikato, New Zealand, work in software development, and love my 370GT : ) Between my wife and I, I think this is our 7th Nissan (our other current vehicle is a X-Trail). I'm not sure if I should take my Skyline to the local NZ Nissan dealers for servicing and support, but I am not finding a lot of technical information or discussions on the web for these things. Were they an extremely small production run, or is all the tech support in Japanese and not found by Google?
